I am returning to the game after being gone many months. I am also changing servers so I can have a fresh start and also I wanted to be on a RP server. I am not moving any of my old toons nor plan to (my husband would strangle me if I spent $50 on that hehe). I am also not sure if I will end up in a guild any time soon on AB because, being in a VERY bad guild ruined the game for me before and I am leary about ending up in another bad one again.

That being said I will be needing to rely on myself for much of the game. I already have a sage started and will continue to level it as I level. I will end up playing either a Fury or Illusionest (or both hehe). I had thought doing tailoring would be a good idea so I could make armor and dollies for myself BUT, I know provisioning could probably make me more monies or carpentry just because I want one or two snazzy houses at some point down the road.

There have been so many changes since last I played! There seems to be a ton more carp. items and I saw a little that at high levels prov. get some extra fun goodies too. I am so lost right now as to what to pick Carp for pure fun, Prov for fun-food-drinks, or Tailoring to keep myself in good gear(may be fun I never tried it before).

Oh and one last thing...I love LOVE TS writs so any gaps in recipes is not a big deal to me.

PS: please ignore typos and run on sentences I have not had my morning tea yet

Elliora/Amahla of Antonia Bayle

Is there a question in there? If you are the type that gets into decorating then there is no choice .. you should make a carpenter. It is the most fun of all the TS classes (mainly because none are really fun). Provisioner - most of the time food actually sells for close to cost on the broker. Cost saving and money making potential are low on most servers.Sage - You can save yourself some good money if you play casters. Money making potential is fair just because there are so many items you can make and they all have some demand. You need to pay close attention to the markets for each class by each tier. Tailor - About the same as Sage. The true profit is actually the harvesting of raws and rares not so much the crafting.

Welcome back! Just popping in to tell you one thing: Don't fret too much over what tradeskill you choose. In case you were not aware, we can now change tradeskills (ie. Respec). You get knocked back to level 9 Artisan and you loose your upper level recipe books, but you can at least start over without rerolling the character itself. So if you choose carpenter for instance and decide it's not for you, just see the career counselor and respec. Of course you will have "wasted" the time, effort and cash you burned on leveling your previous profession, but the option is at least available for those that would find a benefit in it.

I also agree with the above poster's comments. If you're looking for money savings, make your armor and spells. Carpenters mostly make cash off of sales displays and boxes... or decorating services in my experience.

Not sure on the provisioner coment. My guildies make and average 7 plat daily with their provies. This is net profit BTW. I statrted a provisioner myself last week, now a lvl 20. I am shocked at the amount of moeny I am making. Low base supplies are 2 copper each. Plus fuel...let round it to 1 silver to make a stack of 2. i am selling Orange Wine and Crab Bisque any where from 20 silver to 60 silver each. I would say that is a good mark up.

BUT I think my server is in a recesion. Art imitating life. Cost of food and rares (gas) is sky high.

I wouldn't worry too much about the guild thing. I had a similar experience. Twice. So I dropped guilding my toons altogether and haven't really noticed a difference. I'm positive there are good guilds out there, but it's just not worth the hassle to me. I've never had a problem getting items made or grouping. I'll PM you about another possible solution.

I agree with the other response that the carpenter is the funnest classes if you're into the decorating thing. There are also some sources of income in the carpenter recipes.

Good Luck and welcome back

SC

Sorry it got long winded I was trying to give some back round so I was not being to vague and maybe something would help make a difference on what would be suggested.

I am already doing a sage and will continue to play one. I love to tradeskill. I am trying to pick a second tradeskill to do as well.

Thank you for your input

Elliora/Amahla of Antonia Bayle

My provi is pretty much shelved at the moment because when you factor in the price of roots, I'd make more cash selling the raw roots than the resulting combines. So... I just sell my roots. I harvest my own anyhow so I'm actually saving time from not grinding away at the stove. If I had more patience I'm sure I could find a way to turn a profit at it, but I'm actually having more fun adventuring with my little coercer at the moment.

My carpenter has long been abandoned since I was selling at or below cost due to ore and root prices on everything except sales displays. Again... more steady cash to be made selling raws. /shrug

Mezzmyrelda@Unrest wrote:

If I had more patience I'm sure I could find a way to turn a profit at it,

That has A LOT to do with it as well .. If you take the time to figure out your servers market you can turn a profit. Sometimes you stumble onto that segment by luck and if you stick with it you can normally get a steady income as long as you pay close attention to the raw values as well. MC items you really need to constantly purchase Rares for the items you are selling Even if you dont use them you need to keep rare prices up to deter any other crafter from moving in on that segment. Not unlike real life, you often need to take a chunk of your profit and put it back into your business in order to ensure profitability in the future. Me .. I am toying with the idea of opening a Newbie store .. stocking everything someone could need for T3-T4 and focusing on people twinking alts for profit. Margins are fairly low in these tiers but the volume of sales tends to be good. Then I think about the effort that would go into it and I start thinking it is a bad idea

Provisioner is a high volume, low proffit business. If you are willing to put hours into making food for sale, then you'll be rich. Otherwise, you'll feed yourself for cheap.

Any other class can make more proffit for the amount of time used, but it requires the production of the right master crafted items. When I say right, I mean items that are in higher demand that supply.

Case in point, if your an alchemist you probably realize that resuce (level 25 fighter ability) is used by 6 classes. There is no upgrade for it, it scales with level. The master 1 for this spell doesn't drop anywhere near enough to satisfy every single fighter on your server. So this should be a good one to make adept 3s for, right?

Well...maybe. Take a look at what the adept 3 is selling for. If your the only alchemist making these you'll be able to make a healthy proffit. If there are a few people making this, and one of them is satisfied making 10g more than the rare cost+ fuel then this probably isn't worth getting into. This week. Maybe next week this guy has moved up in tiers and isn't bothering to stock rescue adept 3 anymore. Markets fluxuate and when they arn't producing much in the way of proffit people abandon them.

Making a good proffit generally takes work. Finding a niche market takes less time to watch and take advantage of it. You won't make as much as if you were watching your entire market, but it takes less time and lets you enjoy the rest of the game.

p.s. you can make more coin just harvesting. I'm into crafting because I like crafting, not because I want to get rich.

These days I craft just for the fun of it and to outfit my alts. The crafts I still keep up with are Carpenter and Jeweler. I go through spells of crafting for the broker and both make some money, but nothing like my husband's Prov. He pulls it in like running water, but he likes to work steadily every day. I'm hot or cold most of the time. The reason I keep the Jeweler is that I have found I love playing my Brigand and Assassin so I can make their jewelry and runes. The Carp is just pure fun. Making rooms and little shops for my girls and my husband's toons is a lot of fun. I've done a bunch of them and it really is central these days to building my RP experience. Most of the time I play by myself and if no one's around or I don't feel like fighting I can always work on one of my rooms. One fun thing about a Carpenter is that you can make useful things at all levels and each tier has a unique flavor. I got kind of burnt out on grinding writs so I enjoy cranking out little stuff that doesn't all get dumped to the NPC.
