Firstly, i'd like to say I kinda like the fact that vanity slots were implemented.However.I'd like to see vanity slots for weapons, different styles of clothing / armor designs, and/or perhaps armor coloring/clothing coloring , rather then the sort of base series of coloring and so on that is currently available. Also, it'd be pretty neat to be able to get some kinda vanity-slot jewelry kinda things that actually display on the character's avatar, rather then just invisibly hanging out. (For example, the old charm-slot item "Pulsing Gem of the Feerott" gives a particle of a bracelet) , things like that would be kinda neat. Also, many of the weapons/armor/items, etc. just have a sorta generalized similar look to each other, diversity and variety would make it a lot more immersive and enjoyable then everyone looking generally the same.(Oh ya, and while I'm at it, one thing that's been bugging me forever , is the fact that a lot of the armor (chain specficially) that has this sorta mud-flap action thing going on... and although I understand the necessity to prevent mud from getting on the sorta pelvic region of a player's character, the mudflap look is kinda really not all that good at all.)As far as the weapons go, I mean, that prismatic hat looked so cool is now hanging out in your bank useless cause it's greyed out, etc., but at least if there were a vanity slot it could be put to the cool-looking use that it definitely still has!(Heck, i love the old graphic for the prismatic, I'd love if there was some way to 'upgrade' those items, or like, combine the Prismatic1/Godking/Claymore Rewards, into some like.. upgraded Prismatic weapon whose appearance you could toggle between, or something like that, would be pretty awesome, in my opinion.)

I agree on the weapon slots. Just last night I was picking out gear for a swashie and the coolest looking weapons, like the sabers and epees have the most useless stats for a scout. We get stuck with the same bland daggers that everyone else is using because of the bonuses.

You can't hide a huge two-hand sword behind a dagger, just as you can't hide a shield behind a rapier. Semantics aside, this is pretty much the reason why they won't put it in. To prevent players from hiding the weapons they're really using.

Precisely. Unless it were really limited to specific types of weapons. Like great hammers could only display great hammers, greatswords greatswords, that kind of stuff. It'd be a hayday otherwise.

So many druids in a certain Gi that isn't a cover all for what they truely are wearing.I support this so I can hide my cudgel and show a freaking spear.

Whilst i like the idea of it i think you would have to seriously restrict what people could use for appearance based on whats equipped and this would mean lots of checks in case people swap out weapons between fights or for certain situations.Allow any shield to be shown in appearance that the character could normally equip but limit weapons based on type (1h, 2h etc) and damage type (crush slash pierce) allow any bows.

You only have two. Unless you plan to fight epic monsters with just your thumb and index finger, and hold an apperance weapon between your ring and pinky, it just doesnt work. Anyone can put on more armor over what they're wearing, but weapons don't work that way.

Can someone explain why it actually matters that people know what you are "really" using? Besides from a PvP standpoint which I couldn't possibly care less about!! I want to look GOOD, not give a crap about people knowing I am using a staff not a sword. If it suits my RP to use a sword that's what I want people to see, yet it restricts the damage and stats I can use because of it if I have to pass on a beter weapon for that. Seems stupid to me.

It's a VANITY slot. It's purely for vanity, not for practical reasons. Give use EQ1 style weapons molds so we can make anything look like anything else and be done with it for crying out loud.

Partly as a mystic who's been inflicted with that horrible looking thing they call our epic, partly as a collector of nice looking weapons, I would wholly support a vainity slot for weapons/shields.

It doesn't matter really what anyone is 'actually' using. I mean really. Berserkers are 'actually' using an axe despite the fact that even my 4 yr old thinks it looks like a mace. If weapon fight animation is the problem, the appearance slot weapon should override the fight animation for anything in the actual slots. That way you'd look like you were beating on things with that cool two hand blunt that you might have in your appearance slot, even though you were really beating things down with 2 wussy looking little wand things. What you have really equipped means nothing other than how the damage/stats are calculated.

For all those crying "immersion breaking!" I ask how so? If you aren't inspecting people every time you meet them how would you know if that mean looking weapon was just the 'for show' weapon or what they were really wielding? What difference does it make as long as the attack animation follows what you see instead of what is covered up? The game's chock full of illusions, what's to prevent you from just thinking of this as yet another illusion? Sure you'd see a few people running around with Cazel's Spoon but if they want to look like they are killing dragons with a spoon, that's their choice.

On the topic of the "Mudflap"...

Chainmail armor traditionally consisted of leggings and a long, long, (did I say long?) chainmail shirt that fit nearly like a short dress that was then cinched at the waist by a belt. This was to keep the suit "closed" so to speak. Otherwise the belly would constantly be exposed during swordplay and maneuvering.

Oh ya, chain shirt was long, but the chain legs didn't have wierd mudflaps. Just lengthen the overhang of the shirt, and remove the mudflap and that'd be like all good. As far as vanity slots, if you're so worried about being able to see what weapon someone has, why not add the vanity slots, but add some PERSONA window option to "Display people's vanity slot weapons" or "Not display peoples' vanity slot weapons." , i can see how this would only be useful on PVP servers (if even then.)
