View Full Version : Internet drops at Loading UI resources

I have multiple characters. I have 2 lvl 80 characters that I play regularly and logged on them as recent as Saturday. Today I try to log on either one and I get to loading UI resources and the game stops my internet and goes thru the normal process as if I had no connection. Internet is then down for all browsing and I reset my modem and can continue surfing. The bugger is this only happens with my 2 lvl 80 chars. I can log on to my other lower level alts without any issues. I have tried this MULTIPLE times and every time it is the same, can log on to alt, camp and log on to another, but when trying to log on to one of my lvl 80 char, internet is stopped at loading UI resources.

Fenric and Fenric on Blackburrow server. Has anyone experienced anything like this or what info would I need to provide to resolve this?

Thank you.

Considering the fact that it is hanging on 'Loading UI Resources', redownloading the settings files would be a good first step and might solve this problem. Please follow the steps below to do so.

You may want to delete the following files and folders:

cache folder

eq2_recent.ini

eq2_default.ini

EverQuest2.exe

eq2.ini

As well as the character specific files, these will appear as such:

Servername_CharacterName_EQ2_uisettings.ini

Stationname_characters.ini

To do this, please follow these directions:

1. First look for your EverQuest II directory. You can find the directory in the default directory:

2. Click on MY COMPUTERCRIVEPROGRAM FILESSONYEVERQUEST II

3. Next look for any files explained above and delete them.

4. Afterwards, please start EverQuest II to have these files re-downloaded by the patcher.

Please respond if this does not correct the problem.

Thank you for the quick reply.

Unfortunately that did not help. I erased all files listed above, plus anything containing the char names, Fenrik and Fenric. Did this a couple times and the same issue. Could log in on my lower lvl chars just fine, but the 2 lvl 80 char would get to Loading UI resources, and interupt my internet. Had to reset modem and go thru whole process again.

Try to bypass a router if you have one and connect directly to the modem. If you do not have a router, please unplug the power on the modem for 25 seconds and then plug it back in.Each character generally uses a different port, so if you recycle the modem, hopefully the ports having issues will be released, and allow you to logon.

Thank you for your help but back to my issue. Last night after doing what you suggested with deleting all the files and redownloading, the problem did not change. I played an alt for awhile then before I went to bed, tried to log on to my 2 lvl 80 char. Same issue, get to loading ui resources and internet stops. Have to cycle power to modem to restablish connection. Went to bed, woke up and tried logging on. Problem gone! logged on to my character, did a little ditty, and camped and went to work. Got home tonight and the same problem is back. Can log on, camp to char select, log on to another alt no problem, but if I try to log on to one of my 2 lvl 80 char, my internet connection is stopped at loading UI resources. I am completely at a loss, and cannot see how this coming from my end atm. Please respond ASAP as this is very disatisfying.

Thank you in advance.

Hmmm I wonder if the ports are closing after a period of time. try the power cycle of the modem/router again. If that fixes it, you will need to make sure these ports are open. UDP connections are initiated from the EverQuest II client on UDP ports 9100, and UDP ports in the range 32800-33000. Additionally, ICMP messages type 0 (echo reply), 3 (unreachable), 8 (echo request) and 11 (expired) should be permitted bi-directionally between the client PC and the EverQuest II servers. You can call your ISP to get help enabling these ports or the manufacturer of the router...or even check out http://portforward.com/

I checked UDP ports, all ports are enabled. Not sure about the ICMP message but how would that affect only 2 characters and not the 4 others that I tried? Also why would it work on Saturday, not work on Monday, work Tuesday morning, not work Tuesday night? all without making any changes. I do not have a router, I have DSL modem, only one computer. Have tried using both my onboard LAN and a PCI ethernet card. Exact same problem/symptoms on both.

Thank you for your continued help

In regards to the time issue, I played an alt for a couple of hours and tried logging on to one of the 2 characters in question last night and same problem.

Started a new Character. No issues. Also every file on my computer that contained the names of the 2 characters was deleted per your original post so it should be getting entirely new ports when I try to log in correct?

Ok, I am at my wit's end. I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled the game. I have verified that all UDP connections are enabled and every ICMP option is allowed. THE PROBLEM PERSISTS.

All my old characters and even new ones that I have started, I can log, play, and log off with no problems. My two level 80 characters Fenric and Fenrik, do not work. I get to the loading UI resources and my internet is interupted, game goes thru as if it does not have a connection, which it no longer does, and I have to cycle the power to my DSL modem in order to reestablish my connection. I have played Fenric since launch and NEVER had a problem like this.

Please respond ASAP.

Thank you

Hello Fenric, have you tried simply bypassing the router and plugging your computer directly into the modem? I looked through the thread and I don't see it mentioned that you did. At the very least this would allow us to eliminate the router as the cause of the issue. I also noticed that we have not received your dxdiag/msinfo/tracert info yet. If you try bypassing the router and the problem persists I would advise you to respond with that info so we can attempt to diagnose the issue. I have posted a link to the instructions below.http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=353617Regards

Daniel I PM'd the files to you. I noticed a window erro about IP lease denied by DHCP server. This seems to correspond when I was trying to log on to one of 2 char that I cannot log on to.

Should I post here or is the PM fine?

Thank yo ufor your help.

Problem did not clear up over weekend. I PM'd requested files to both Trevor and Daniel. Still same symptoms of dropping internet at loading UI resources for my 2 main lvl 80 toons and none of others. Can log in alts, play for a significant amount of time and no issues.

Would appreciate an update when you get a chance to review the files,

Thank you

I know I can log on as those characters, I believe you said a friend could as well. With that we know it is not a game issue. Something odd has to be going on with ports or the UI files. You deleted the whole UI folder as well I take it and removed any UI files in the main Eq2 folder? Power cycled the modem or bypassed the router as well?

Fenr

I deleted the whole UI file(no change), then I completely deleted all EQ2 files and reinstalled the game from my original EQII DVD's. I do not doubt that you could log onto all my characters, I just do not understand how after the reinstall, this is still affecting only 2 characters. What would be different for these 2 characters that would affect me on my side especially after a fresh install?

All ports verified per your ealier suggests, modem has been cycled multiple times and needs to be cycled to restablish internet connection. I have no router, I am directly connected to modem.

Your help is appreciated.

Just curious. Who is your ISP and what model modem do you have?

Not sure if this thread gets any eyeballs anymore. For the support person that was testing. I have this issue as well. I find that if I open my crafting recipe book or use the bank, the next time I zone, it's very likely that my internet connection will get "reset". I can play for hours if I don't do either of those 2 things. Also, it doesn't actually reset the connection, it seems like the client overwhelms the ethernet of the modem which ends up no longer responding, with what, I dunno. UDP packets? Anyway, just thought I'd put this in. You wouldn't have that kind of a problem at your office because you'd presumably be going out to the internet through a more sophisticated connection.

I am continually having these issues as well, has there been any more development on this problem?
