Since December 2007 Everquest 2 has been acting strange. First I was having a problem with the computer rebooting randomly when I was playing the game now it has also started to just lock up. I have all the latest drivers and updates. When I changed it not to reboot I would get a memory dump. I checked my Ram,My hard drive has enough space and is not fragmated. Yesterday in between locking up and rebooting I had about 20 Min of game time.I am posting my game files as requested and will provide more if asked.PLEASE HELP

System Information------------------Time of this report: 5/4/2008, 21:01:16 Machine name: ROBERT-COMP Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254) Language: English (Regional Setting: English)System Manufacturer: VIA694 System Model: AWRDACPI BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1800+, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.5GHz Memory: 1280MB RAM Page File: 399MB used, 1503MB available Windows Dir: C:WINDOWS DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)DX Setup Parameters: Not found DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.2180 32bit Unicode

------------DxDiag Notes------------ DirectX Files Tab: No problems found. Display Tab 1: No problems found. Sound Tab 1: No problems found. Music Tab: No problems found. Input Tab: No problems found. Network Tab: The registry information for the DirectPlay application 'Age Of Wonders' is missing or damaged. You should reinstall that application. Try a clean boot, you have a lot of startup items. Give this a try...1. Select the START button.2. Select RUN, then type in "msconfig" (for Vista, type msconfig in the search bar at the bottom of the Start Menu)3. Press OK4. Select the STARTUP tab.5. In the list, uncheck all boxes EXCEPT for SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY. If you use Windows XP, please note that SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY will not be listed - just uncheck the entire list.6. Hit apply and then OK. Restart the computer and try the game again. If you are still experiencing the same issue, please reply back.

Try opening back up the DXDIAG again from start.Go to the Sound tab and move hardware acceleration from FULL to NO ACCELERATION.Reboot and try again. Keep me updated.

Greetings Frodac,

Based on the errors you're receiving it seems like one of your RAM sticks might have gone bad. I would run a memory checking application such as memtest to see whether or not there is a problem with your ram. If your computer fails when running that program I would remove one stick, run the program again, switch which RAM stick you have inserted, then run the test one more time. These errors could also be caused by an overclock, so revert to normal settings if you have overclocked your PC.

This will help us find out whether there is a bad stick, and if so, which one it is.

Should I try this using a clean boot or just try it both normal and clean boot?

I download a Memory tester from Mircosoft and ran it with no issues

I have run Memtest twice. The first time with 2 modules installed it ran for 58 minutes and than locked up the computer. During that time 5 errors were generated on slot 2. This had a 256 MB chip in it. So I opened up the case and took the 256 one out leaving a 1 Gig chip in slot 1. I restated the test, which ran for 38 minutes, which generated no errors but again locked up the test. What should I do next? Should I run the test with the 256 installed to see if it locks up? Should I keep swapping chips and slots until I have done all combinations possible? I am kind of stuck as to what to do. I did make sure that all my fans are operating so I don't think overheating is an issue. Also I am not over clocking any components'. Suggestions?

Is the machine store bought complete or is it one that you put together? Can you give any more details on the motherboard, trying to locate a manual on the wen would be helpful.

It is a shuttle AK32A. I have DDR memory and have had that 1 GiG, 256 set up for over a year with out any problems running the game. I built the computer my self . I was think of upgrading the memory to the max of 2Gig. The problem I have been having has been occuring since December 2007

Seen some documentation on the web showing that a mixture may work but could cause damage to the motherboard because of voltage differences that would show the same symptoms as what you are having.

I Ran the test with the 1 GiG again and got a lot of errors. Am currently running the 256 over 1 hour so far and no errors. Looks like the 1 Gig has some issue. I will go buy another one. Not sure if I will replace the 256 because moneys tight will check online to see if I can find a deal for 2 gig. Will keep you posted on my progress. Thanks for some direction.

                                        Frodac
