<p>I know we may not need to kite alot, but I have been trying it and it is kinda fun, even though I blast through arrows like crazy. This is what I do, let me know how I can improve on this.</p><p>I am level 20 right now btw...</p><p>I use the arrow shot that sends alot out at once rapid fire.</p><p>As mob approaches I hit the snare way before it gets to me.</p><p>Once I hit snare I press my right or left arrow button and go in a circle firing arrows, Interupt/Dmg, Shrill, Def Detaunt, and rinse and repeate til dead mob. </p><p>Now I know I don't have to kite most mobs, but It is helping me get my range up to max plus I will need it for harder mobs latre on.</p><p>Also, as I go in a circle, if the mob is getting too close, as I am pressing r or l arrow I press the back arrow to gain some space without stopping at all. I hardly take any damage at all, though it takes forever to burn the mob down that way...lol...but again, its just for fun and getting ranged skill to max. But i figure once i get a tough mob I need to kill solo, I may need this skill then.</p><p>So, with all this in mind, any suggestions? I don't need to hear "don't kite"<img src="http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/images/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" width="15" height="15" />, i know I dont need to.</p>

There's the trade off.  Kiting is MUCH slower, and one of the reasons Troubadors are considered "slow" solo'ers. You're doing it right, that's just the way it is.Honestly though, if all you're doing is trying to get your ranged skill up, you can stop worrying about it.  Just pulling with a bow and shooting a couple arrows on incoming as you level up will eventually see your ranged skill catch up.

<p>When I started soloing in RoK, I found myself falling into kiting a lot.  What you're doing matches just about what I do, except I'll generally toss in a Messenger's Letter (Wis/2) after a singing shot and then snare.  After snare I'll generally debuff with everything I have and then fire off anything else that is ranged before closing in to melee with cheapshot/flank, etc.  For RoK, that was required for me personally to handle the content, especially the first time I started grinding out Kylong quests.  </p><p>If kiting is enjoyable to you, then I can understand doing it primarily as your solo strategy.</p>

If you really like to kite by all means keep doing it. In your early 70s its pretty much required unless you're in full EoF raid gear, so you might want to get used to it now. But when you're in your younger levels getting a good roundshield and spending points in the Sta tree will greatly help your survivability when standing toe to to with a baddie.

I have no clue, just wondering? Way back when I played my Zerker, it was a mixed bag soloing with SnB.

The only thing I have ever kited is yellow ^ mobs.  I never tried to take an orange of any kind, so that may be a limiting factor.I hit RoK at L70, in my T7 Mastercrafted armor.  Yes, it was hard, but I managed to fight my way to L72 and once I got into T8 Mastercrafted life became really good.I do not at all agree that you "have" to kite at any point.  What you "have" to do is kill quickly or kite.  That's really the choice.  If you can't kill quickly, you must kite.  I am probably the poster child for Troubs who hate to kite.  I only do it when I absolutely, positively have no other choice.  Even then I'm not proud of it.My general rule of thumb:  If I can't kill it in 15 seconds, kite it.The caveat of course is that for me, most mobs die in 15 seconds or less.  Now that I'm starting to really get some decent gear under my Troub, I'm doing even better.  Once I have him partially raid geared, I anticipate I can stop kiting those yellow ^ mobs . . . except perhaps the named.

lolIn other words, a troubs solo survivability has a lot to do with gear.

I use DW.  Sword/Board might work ok in a raid setting if I had a really, really good weapon / shield combo and the buffs and gear to maximize it.  I don't.  The avoidance gains from Sword/Board in soloing are simply not worth it to me.  I mean, I get hit once, maybe twice per fight.  An increase of even 15% avoidance isn't going to change the outcome of any fight.Prior to hitting L80, I always used two Mastercrafted weapons, longest delay I could find.  For T8 it was Falchion, Karballa and Ritual Dagger (for piercing skill ups).  Now I'm using Anaphylaxis and Arbiter of Absolution.  Obviously, the sooner I can get my hands on things like Betrayals Song, Ayonic Axe, Carotid Cutter, Throatripper, etc . . . the better.  Depending on the RNG gods and how camped TT is for the Xegonite harvests, I should have Ayonic Axe done this weekend.Yes, you need to have "decent", though not "outstanding" gear to solo effectively as a Troubador.  I think my entire MC armor set for T8 might have cost 8 plat - I know it's a lot less now.  Another 4 plat for two MC weapons.  I consider MC gear to be "decent".Generally, I was averaging about 850 DPS soloing in Kylong from L70-71.  It was pretty rough at that rate.  When I hit L72 and was able to upgrade to the T8 gear, my DPS went up to about 1100.  The key is keeping fight length low.

<p>Ok, things have gotten infinatly better now.<img src="http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/images/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" width="15" height="15" /></p><p>I dinged 22 last night, strapped on my MC Chain Armor and was well in the virtual universe!!</p><p>I went from having arrow down trash mobs being harder than I would like to admit to even cons going down in a blaze of humiliation. So, i feel quite a sense of relief. I know we are not dps/solo gods, but I was amazed how rotton I was doing......but that is behind me now....lol......not really, but much much mo betta.</p>

A side note..If you want to be sure to get your ranged skill up, just stand on the side of a river or a lake and bow autoattack one of the fish, they encounter will break when they go on land and you will still fire arrows..1 hour afk and you are maxed <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" width="15" height="15" />
