View Full Version : Unable to log into game world

This afternoon I got bumped from both my sessions, and now I cannot access any of my characters on either account. I can log into Station.com, and can log into the game right up until I select a character. Then, no matter what character I select, the game crashes to the desktop. Is anyone else having this problem? It doesn't appear to be an account problem, because I can get logged in all the way to the "Select Character" or "Create Character" screens.

You are not alone.  I am having the exact same problem.  I've tested multiple characters and have tried to fix it (after reading some old support forum posts) by deleting the UI folder and all ui settings for all of my characters, deleting the cache folder, etc., to no avail.  Everything was working fine for several hours before I started having problems, too.

<p>Thanks for letting me know that it's at least more than just my PCs.  I'll keep trying periodically and watching the boards - it's odd that there aren't any threads anywhere on this.  I played all morning without problem, but now can't get logged in.  As soon as it starts loading a zone, it crashes.  </p><p>Thanks again for the reply - I appreciate knowing that it's more widespread than just me.  Good luck.</p>

<p>I get as far as loading resources on any character I select, then eqII app just closes with no errors.</p><p>Rebooted system and trying a full file scan to see if that helps.  Funny thing is I was on this morning around 8am PDT without any problems whatsoever.</p><p> * ok tried the full file scan and still having issues, getting as far as the name of the zone my character is in, then EQII closes while character is entering the world, no error messages.</p><p>*again tried, this time patching test server, same is happening there too</p>

OK its definitely on SOE's end, now I get as far as character entering world, then the invalid Login / password window pops up. Its a problem with SOE server

<p>*sigh* now its back to just closing EQII without any error messages and the invalid login /pw window doesn't pop up anymore.</p><p>so much for the pawbuster raid that starts in an hour.</p>

<p>OK, got kicked while zoning and ever since, I can't log in. I get as far as character select, then, no matter who I choose and which server....it starts to load the zone and then BAM, I'm out with no explenation! What the heck? You know, if we all asked SOE to reimburse us for lost game time and lost loot due to their issues..they'd go broke. I appologize, but I'm grumpy. It's the weekend and I had plans. *sigh* Lot's of important plans. And this issue has rendered me helpless.</p><p>Gnarlee Noctura</p><p>80 Mystic, 80 Provisioner</p><p>Antonia Bayle</p>

I cant seem to fix this issue. I have deleted EQII.exe, the .ini and the recent .ini, cache and login-cache then repatched.  Still not working.  I can get to character select fine and even create a new character.  As with current characters and the newly created one, the game simply closes with no error message and of course no error log to see whats up.  Stops at either cacheing appearances or loading resources.

<p>Still unable to connect.  This is VERY odd, because there are so few reports of a problem.  I haven't found a thread on this topic anywhere else, and there doesn't seem to be much buzz about it anywhere.  So either the problem is only affecting a very few people, or people just don't bother posting when this type of thing happens.</p><p>I have two machines, and both failed at the same time - so it doesn't seem very likely to be a problem on this end.  Like a previous poster said, the problem appears to be server-side.  Sometimes I get the invalid login message (after I've already logged in, mind you) and other times it just crashes.  But invariably, for the past 8 hours or so, I haven't been able to log in with any characters on any server.</p>

<p>Quick update for others who are having this problem.</p><p>I kept trying the same character over and over again, and eventually got in on one machine.   It's almost like it the launcher kept making a bit farther through the process with each try, and eventually I got in.  </p><p>However, I crashed as soon as I zoned, and I was unable to loot anything while in the game - I just kept getting a "you are too busy to loot" message or something like that.  </p><p>So keep trying the same character again and again and again, and you might get in.  Although if you do, you may not be able to do anything, like me.   </p><p>Good luck - Sony doesn't even seem to be aware of this, so I don't expect anything to be done about it this weekend.  There don't seem to be too many people reporting the problem, so they probably don't even know about it yet.  </p>

Well I sent off an email to tech support, not sure they can help much over the weekend. I am at a loss as to why everything was fine yesterday morning, and won't work just 7 hours later.  Let me know how that re-install is doing and if it helped.

MLeviP
05-04-2008, 05:58 PM
The re-install didn't work.  I get the same problem - even when completely removing and re-installing the entire application, and waiting through hours of patches to download.  The email from Sony tech support is full of the typical "it's your problem not ours" BS, and my patience is pretty well gone.

Well, there goes my weekend. *sigh* How incredibaly frustrating. I, too, reported this issue, but aside from very generic auto replies, I am getting nowhere. I'm not going to reinstall, as that does not appear to be the solution. I guess I'll just wait til tomorrow and try to reach them again. At least I got in a few hours Satuday morning, before this issue came up. Of course, had I any insight, I might have made those hours count for something more productive. If anyone has any updates... : )

I think I found something in common?  2 of us live in South Dakota... bet this whole thing is related to the blizzard and the mass amounts of snow <img src="http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/images/smilies/2786c5c8e1a8be796fb2f726cca5a0fe.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" width="15" height="15" />

My wife and I are having problems logging in too.  We live in South Dakota as well.  I called ISP and they said they were not blocking SOE.  Funny. It happened just after the storm.

<p>Interesting. As a rule, I won't rule any possability out, but I was playing Saturday morning til around noon or so...been all down hill since then : (</p><p>Who do you use? We are on Knology. (admitedly, we've had a lot of problems with them, but usually with e-mail related things.) *shrugs* I just want my game back. If you could post some tracerts and pathpings, it would help us out a lot. Open up the Start menu, choose the Run command, type "command" in the space provided, then hit Enter. If you're using Win2k type "cmd" instead of command. For Vista, "type command" at the search bar on the bottom of the Start Menu. The MS-DOS Prompt window should appear with the prompt, "C:windowsdesktop". For Win98/ME or Win2K/XP/Vista, type the following three DOS commands, one at a time, hitting Enter between each command, and waiting for the prompt to reappear:   tracert guk.everquest2.com   pathping guk.everquest2.com

It's so weird that we're having the same issue using the same ISP.  I called them and they said they are not blocking SOE. I don't know what's going on.

You can also try this if you are unable to mark and copy the data.ipconfig /all > c:eq2info.txt tracert guk.everquest2.com >> c:eq2info.txtpathping guk.everquest2.com >> c:eq2info.txt************************************* ***************The first command will create a text file in your C: drive. After you run the other two commands it will update the file with the info with which you can then copy and paste like manwich did.  Definitely not bad info. :p

I've been having the same problem for about a week now. What kind of internet connection do you have? I've got an ADSL connection with PPPoE login in Taiwan, and I was afraid that it might be the cause of my problems. Theres another thread with people having this problem but it looks like most of them are in Asia like me, so they probably have PPPoE connections as well.Tracing route to sdkeq2-01-01.everquest2.com You may not, but you are being routed through ATT.  Your ISP would need to call up them up and correct this issue.  Coming from an ex-ISP techie, I would not tell them it was for a game, but for a business/school related issue.  Most ISPs will shut you down as soon as you mention game. You can just give them the server IP address rather then then full name (ie <span class="postbody">199.108.12.33 instead of guk.everquest2.com). request a new IP, as you are probably on a dynmaic IP rather then static IP.  Sometimes you can get a new IP by just power-cycling the modem for about 5 mins.PChan Im looking into yours now, as your tests came back good.</span>

Lets say I live at 123 First St.  Everyday I go to the local pub which is a few miles away. I walk to the pub each time, and I have to go through the parking lot of Ralph's to get there. One day the security offices at Ralph's stop me from using the paraking lot to get to my pub.  I don't know how else to get to the pub, so I have 2 choices.1) decide to move to 987 Third St, which will let me take a different path to my pub.  2) call my landlord and have them caall Ralphs to let them know I am having problems and let me through.ATT is Ralphs parking lot in this scenario and my landlord is your ISPI hope this makes some sense.

<p>based on what i am seeing, we are connecting. the game is just dumping before we fully enter the game world, ie the ui being fully loaded, for example, the guild motd loads in the chat window, as does the journal helper. it seems like when we reach the point of actually being able to interact with the game is when the system aborts. i think i'll just start deleting random files one at a time and attempting to login after each one, and see if i can login that way. obviously the issue is not the client itself, but perhaps one of the files it calls got corrupted.</p>

Bushes, i wonder if you'd be so kind as to do a registry comparison between those two pc's, as pertains to eq2. might be helpful

Well, good news and bad news. He (Silvanis) got me into the game..that would be the good...the bad? It's a temporary fix. We still have found nothing, he simply bypassed the router alltogether, and connected my box dierctly to the motem. As soon as we get our second box running again, we'll be back to square one. We are wondering more and more about the blizzard that hit last weekend when this all began....we lost power ten times in an hour..so, I wonder. Anyway...there is a temporary fix if you have that option.

Bypassing your router and having it connect fine, means there is an issue with the router.  Calling the manufacture and asking question that you have about the connection should be a good permanent fix.

<cite>cpfoa wrote:</cite><blockquote><p>You think a string of power outages might have damaged it or a cable...I understand it's merely speculation, just wondering</p></blockquote>Its certainly possible, assuming the outages were caused by lightning strikes or downed communication lines.  If that was the case there would probably be other symptoms as well, though, such as static on your phone line.

Well, since I can't get any new help today, guess I'll just start deleting every Sony reference in the registry. That shouldn't screw up anything important, right?

There is really no need to delete anything from your registry.  This is not going to correct a connection issue.

Dude, seriously? [Removed for Content].Last night, I took my POS 5 yr old system out of the attic, placed it besides my current one, unplugged my ethernet cable, monitor, keyboar, and mouse from this one and plugged all those same wires into the old one. IT LET ME IN THE GAME WITHOUT A SINGLE PROBLEM!IT'S NOT A CONNECTION ISSUE!

From what you have given me Bushes, it is a connection problem.  SOE is not blocking your PC from connecting.  Now that you have another PC connected it works. We have escalated your ticket to a tier 2 rep to look at further.

Original poster here.  I've pretty much given up on getting connected again, and haven't even tried in several days.  I tried tonight, with the same result.  I get a random way through the zone loading process - tonight it was create zone entities, and at 25% it just stops, and then crashes to the desktop.  I've tried connecting by bypassing my router, going straight from my PC to my cable modem.  No luck.I've uninstalled and reinstalled the entire application, downloaded all patches, and run a complete file check.  No luck.I've got two entirely different computers, and cannot connect with either one on either account.  I've updated my video, sound, and directx drivers.  No luck.  For the record, I'm also in South Dakota.

I've given up as well.  I've canceled my subscription for now, but hope to return if/when the AT&T packet loss issue is corrected.  Changing ISPs or getting a static IP address (assuming that would bypass the problem anyway) is not a viable option for me at this time.  I'll keep an eye on the forum threads for any updates there may be over the next few days/weeks/months.It was fun while it lasted!Take care everyone! <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" width="15" height="15" />

I don't think it's an ISP problem at all (for me, at least). My 2nd computer completely debunked that theory. At least I'm on the Bazaar server... at the very least I can sell out. =/

I called my ISP and requested a static address. the only thing that allowed me to do was to bypass my router to get logged in.  However, my wife likes to play too!  I can't be a game-piggy <img src="http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/images/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" width="15" height="15" />.  I don't know if I will be able to log in tomorrow bypassing the router... it hasn't worked before today.

<p>I have managed to correct the issue here for myself and cpfoa(i'm her husband). the steps i took are as follows:</p><p>1. replace cable between the router and my modem</p><p>2. reset the router's factory defaults from within its admin system</p><p>3. power cycle my modem for 30 seconds</p><p>here's my system config</p><p>modem: scientific atlanta model dpc2100r2 (it looks like a little piece of junk, tiny, weighs almost nothing... i digress), it acquires it's ip via dhcp, per my isp's config</p><p>router: linksys rt41bu, it's just a 4 port wired router,  pulls it's data from the modem via dhcp</p><p>pc's: both athlon xp 64's, 1 runs xp home, the other media center, both aquire ip's from the router via dhcp(i'm beginning to see a pattern here...) </p><p>anyhow, both pc's can now connect(well, mine can't login due to mainboard failure of it's pci express slot, and it's onboard vid being unable to support the game, but that's another issue entirely). anyone who would like more details or assistance with pursuing the steps i have outlined above feel free to contact me here or via e-mail, <a href="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]</a></p>

After trying everything that <b>Silvanis Noctura </b>said (none worked for me), I happen to be in the administrative portion of my router... <p>Okay, so my wife and I also live in South Dakota, are also Knology customers, and have been having this same issue since Saturday, May 3rd.</p><p> I've tried everything in this thread that people have suggested, and in my customer service ticket I have open I have sent in the trace route and path ping. We are still unable to connect to the game through the router. If I bypass the router, the game works no problem. Connected to the router, everything BUT the game works just fine. I just tried what Silvanis Noctura said to do, by logging in to my router's admin page and restoring factory default settings, and powercycling the router, but the problem still persists. The last CS reply I got to my open ticket was that it was a firewall on my end. As in an earlier post in this thread, the only thing we have is the windows firewall, and even with that completely turned off, we can not log in.</p>

THIS IS NOT A VIDEO DRIVER PROBLEM.  For crying out loud, even I know that and I don't work for the people who built this game.  I've already included all this information both in this thread and in the bug I submitted - and yet the last suggestion I get from SOE Tech Support is to <u>downgrade </u>my video drivers.  Maybe next you'll suggest I try a different mouse pad.

MLeviP,Typically when the game crashes to desktop it is a computer problem while a crash to character select indicates a connection problem.  I'd like to have your information in a support ticket, since your information is getting a little spread out at this point.  Having it all consolidated in one ticket with records of what steps we've already tried would really help us correct the issue.  If you already have a ticket open I would advise continuing through that channel.  You may want to PM me the reference number so I can call more attention to it.Aolis,The issue you're experiencing seems related to a router or firewall, most likely the router.  I would advise bypassing it temporarily to see if you are able to connect without it.  If so, we can assist you in getting your router set up with the game.

This information was taking with the Cable modem directly connected to the computer, and all firewalls dropped.

I'm having the same issue..At first, I was getting the "Invalid username/password" error message when my toon was zoning in. I did a full file scan and now the game simply crashes to desktop as it is zoning my toon in.

Same error here as well. My ISP just told me that it was because of the AT&T issue. I don't have AT&T and don't quite understand how it all works but apparently the info crosses into AT&Ts territory and it's being dumped for some reason.

Hello everyone,This thread is getting somewhat confusing.  While its nice to have a consolidated connection issue thread, most of the issues in this thread are not related.  I'm not sure how to respond when people simply say they're experiencing the same issue since there are several separate issues in this thread.<b>Just to be clear, if you experiencing the "Login rejected: invalid name or password" error, you need to PM me your station name or start a support ticket.  This also applies if you experienced that issue a couple of times and then it simply started crashing to desktop.</b>If you are not getting <i>that specific</i> error message then the best course of action is to open a new thread or create a support ticket and PM me with the reference #.  Make sure to include the information requested in the following post when creating that ticket/thread, and please make sure to include the error message if there is one.  If you're crashing to desktop then the DXdiag/msinfo results are the most important, and if you're crashing to character select the tracert/pathping information is the most important.<a href="http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/posts/list.m?topic_id=353617" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=353617</a>Thank you all for being patient with us and the issues you're experiencing.  We want to get everyone's game working correctly and this seems like the best way to proceed.

<p>I started having this issue two days ago after the last update. The game will load to the character select screen but I cannot access the game world with any of my characters. Occasionally I get the "invalid login" popup before the game crashes, but that's only about 10% of the time. I tried deleting the four or so files suggested and patching, that did nothing, same with a full file scan. However, the tracert and pathping both come up with no packet loss and ping times around 100ms tops.</p><p>If it's anything, like SilverNitro23 I'm also in Rochester, NY in a college dorm, so router access is a bit impossible. Any suggestions?</p>

Hello shadows,That may be part of the login rejected problem.  Send me your station name in a PM and I'll take a look.  While I check on that you may want to post your pathping info in this or a new thread.

I have this "Login Rejected" issue, since around last Thursday (8-May).I notice the followings -(1) Since 12-May, the "Login Rejected" happens only (and consistently) in the morning (HKT: 8 am, i.e. UST: 5 pm). But, I can login the game properly in the evening (HKT: 8 pm, UST: 5 am).   In my evening session, I can go to guild raid with no issue at all, even with background upload/download running.(2) When I encounter the "Login Rejected", I can work around it by bypassing the Launchpad, and run the everquest2.exe directly.   I am going to be booted to Char Select several times, but I can select character and retry immediately.   And, each retry let me go a little bit further, until I can enter the gameworld (though gameplay is limited because I cannot buy, sell, loot and harvest).=================================If you are getting the "Login Rejected" and happen to be playing in Najena Server, you can try to login at different time. We will see if this issue is related to the server loading, or not.P.S. I am from HongKong, ISP is Netvigator (18M broadband), Modem is XAVi 7722r+. Server is Najena.

Hey guys, I know this probably isn't optimal, but I fixed my login rejected / crashing to desktop on zoning (without any error message) problem by doing a full format and reinstalling windows.I'm positive it's not a connection issue. I had the same 100% packet loss now as when I had the problem, and none of their support recommendations worked at all (I appreciate the effort at least!). Most likely they'll figure it out in a few months, it's probably something stupid. In the meantime, if you want to play, go with the reinstall.

I encountered the same "login reject" problem for the pass few days under Windows Vista. In frustration, I installed eq2 on my Linux partition and make an interesting discovery. Under Linux, I started eq2 by running everquest2.exe instead of the eq2.exe. Got everything working until zone loading part. Instead of getting "login reject", now there is a dialog box asking for password. After entering the password, it takes me back to the character select screen. After selecting the character again, I can now login into the game. So I booted up Windows Vista and run everquest2.exe. It works....<img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> Only problem now is every time I switch to different characters, I've to re-enter the password. But I can live with that. Hope that helps.

<p>Both my husband and I have this same issue.  2 different accounts. 2 different computers.  Even if plugged in directly to the cable modem.  Get as far as loading zone resources and then it crashes to desktop -- occasionally with the "login rejected" message.  Have an open ticket which TSR JamesM replied to with the standard "send us all your info".  Did that and am waiting and hoping <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p>

Did The Bazaar crash? If so am I to expect a prorate in my billing for the serviuce being down?</p><p>Edit: Ok I made it to the character select after it failed to login to the character when i hit play in the launchpad. But I can't help but notice that all of my progress the last few days is totally gone! it shows me as a 29 when I was nearly level 33 this afternoon. My main isn't the only one with this problem. Am I to expect I have lost all items I earned over this time period too? Is this going to be fixed? This is a deal breaker for me, if SOE can't manage their database I'm out.</p>

<p>Interesting.   I tried to log in just now for the first time Since Tuesday.   It got me to "loading zone resources" and then crashed back to desktop.  No error.   </p><p> I updated my ProfitUI and tried again.  It got me past the "loading zone resources" but then crashed right after again to desktop...no errors.</p><p> I'm doing a full file scan now to see if that helps.  Has anyone determined yet what this bug is?</p><p> Edit:  Nope, the full file scan did nothing.  Still can't get in.   I can see my chat window and can even send a quick message to people in game, but it drops me to desktop when it trys to load zone resources....oh well...guess I won't be playing tonight.</p><p> Siege</p>

<p>the bazaar was having serious issues about an hour ago. Whatever it was it seems to be corrected. But freaked me out when i saw my character select screen and the information on it being several days old.</p><p>When I was having problems logging in it never crashed on zone resources. It just couldn't find teh server and went to the character select screen saying bazaar is down. Now that I'm thinking about it maybe the character select screen being out of date has to do with me getting back from out of town and using my desktop for the first time in a week and the character select is possibly cached on the drive.</p><p> What server are you on?</p>

both me and my roommate had the same problem, and also one other person in our area. They said it has come down to our isp and their servers having an issue talking. Funny thing happened today though my roommate was finally able to log into his. I tried mine same thing as before kept happening to me. I tried mine on his computer and I still could not log in, (would get to loading zone resources then either crash or get hte blue userid/password error). We tried his on mine computer and it worked fine. This has me about pulling my hair out now.

<p>I'm able to log in with some of my characters and not others (hanging on the waiting for resources or loading UI settings screen) - the problem is effecting the same characters on different PC's and different ISP's (one of the PC's is a fresh install)</p><p>SOE will blame it all on your kit/your ISP/your haircut/your star sign/ and anything else they can think of while they keep switching the servers on and off praying that it will solve the problem.</p><p>They dont seem to have any agreed service levels when it comes to these issues (which normally happen after each major change) and will never give you an eta for things returning to normal (the only system they have that never seems to break down is the billing system that takes your money each month)</p>

I have pm'ed also. My situation is the same with crashing to the desktop and the invalid user/pass. Mine is different though in the fact that tech support has been able to log in with my account. My roommate was having the same problem as me but his cleared up. I can't log in on either computer with my account but he can log into his on both computers. I also tried to see if star wars galaxies would work for me and I am having the same issue there to.

I've received all of the PMs and I'm currently in contact with the platform development team to have the fix applied to those accounts.  I'll update everyone through PM when I get a response....and I hijacked that support ticket from Eric, Quince.  Assuming its the same issue then I should be able to correct it for you.<span class="name"></span>

I do have some things I was wondering about. So far I have been told that this problem is due to my modem, my non-existent router, and my  firewall which I also don't have. Then I was told it was a port issue with my ISP. What I don't understand is why it was working and then one day decided to quit. Also, why did this issue recently appear? This game has been around a while. If it had happened before wouldn't there be record of it? And what are the odds that after 4 years that random ISP's decided to all block EQ2 around the same time.  I'd also like to note the fact that many people mentioned that this happened after an update. Same as me. Everyone here seems to of had this problem appear early in May. Same as me. In this time I've gotten EQ2 to work twice. One time for only a couple days and another for almost 2 weeks. I thought it was fixed for good so I spent 40 bucks for a second account and 50 bucks for a character transfer. It breaking again after putting that cash down really irks me..It was also mentioned that this was probably a problem with ATT for those people in that area. But we have one person from Hong Kong, another from Singapore, and I myself am in Seoul, South Korea. If i could ask that you raise awareness of other TSR's on this issue it would be great. All the ones that I've contacted seemed to have no idea. That's understandable though since it seems that this is a fairly new issue in EQ2.

Well, I just logged in. Was able to look at guilds recruiting window, equip different items, cast spells. But, as soon as I zoned, I crashed at the same spot like I always do. I'm beginning to wonder if this is an audio issue causing the crash. The music is almost always in the same spot. Count it with your fingers. When the music changes over to dun-dun-dun duh du nuh nuh. At least thats what it sounds like in my head. Anyway just tap your fingers as soon as it begins and you will crash between 3-4 taps. Sometimes 5 taps.

Well, I tried deleting the loading mp3's and using everquest2.exe to log in so I didn't download them. It's still crashing in the same place that it was after I was able to log in. I can get to loading entity resources 98%-100%. I can even hear things around me and get tells..Will try deleting every UI I have.. =/

3 Weeks..?So much for the big return to EQ2 during this promo for me + my friends..<b>Edit: </b>So... in the mean time, how would I configure a generic (Linksys if you want to be specific) router to re-route the tracert hops to this server?

You cannot control the routing, that is up to your ISP sadly.

<p>I'm also on Comporium and having the CTD problem.  So, is this an AT&T problem or a Comporium problem?</p>

I am unable to log into the game as well. I get to the character select.. select my character, and when I attempt to get in the game I immediately get "EQ2 application has stopped working". I am a returning player for the Legends promotion. This is the same system I had before and EQ2 worked just fine then. I PM'd TSR TrevorG yesterday with my station name, but have yet to hear any response. Any feedback would be appreciated!
