I have been having this issue ever since I build my new computer. I have posted this in other forums related to my hardware but they say that it might be an issue with EQ2. This only happens when I run EQ2 and generally after about 25 min or so. I have posted a picture of what is happening. I have overclocked my computer's cpu but not the graphics card. Everything is running well below recommend temps as I have everything monitored. I will also add my dxdiag and msinfo. Thanks for the help in advance!

I can't see anything odd on what you have given so far. A couple of things I am going to suggest though

to see if you can run the game in WinXP SP2 compatibility mode.

right click on the EQ2 icon and click on properties

click on the compatibility tab.

check compatibility mode, then select WinXP SP@ from teh drop down

try and run the driver from 12/20/07 http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvis...69.25_whql.html

be sure you uninstall the old(newer) one after you download this, reboot and then install

Try the compatibility mode first, if that fails remove the compatibility, and then try the driver. I will open a ticket for my tier 2s for you if that fails.

Thanks for the quick reply, I have tried compatability mode like you said but I still ran into the same issue. After that I downloaded the drivers and uninstalled then reinstalled the ones you recommended...unfortunantly no change. I do recall using these before then upgrading to the Beta nVidia drivers to try and solve the issue myself. I am willing to try out other ideas that you might have. Thanks for your help so far!

Hi Everybody,is there any clue about this problem? With my new pc (vista 64 running on it, eq2 in xp sp2 compatibility mode) i encounter the same effect sporadical and this happens only in eq2... sometimes i can play 6+ hours (even raids) without any error and the other time eq2 crashes after 5 minutes.

The problem still exists even with factory spec on the cpu, gpu, everything. I initially thought that it was cpu/heat related but after monitoring my temps and seeing what temps they reached in other graphic intense games like Oblivion maxxed out. EQ2 reaches the same levels as anything else but its the only one to react in this fashion which leads me to believe its a EQ2 issue and not hardware. I have posted the same thread on the evga site and everyone there feels its an EQ2 issue as well. If Hekynn is having the same problem maybe we can figure something out...

Hey Hekynn, are you using a new Wolfdale core CPU like the new E8400? I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

EQ2 is the only program that I am having any issue with at all. My system played Oblivion, Crysis, STALKER, all the Battlefields great with no problems either overclock cpu or not.
I have this exact same problem, under the same circumstances , and have been battling it for the greater part of the last month....

My current setup is a E8400 Intel CPU, a EVGA 780i MB, 4GB of ram, EVGA 9800 GTX video card. I DO NOT overclock, I want system stability above all else. All changes in hardware are performed with completely removing old drivers and reinstalling current ones. Other more intensive games and tasks, and even stress tests, run 100% fine on this system. DXDIAG has been ran with no problems, and Microsofts directX webupdate run many times thru the various changes I'll detail below. I will list the things I have done and tried, and what I beleive is the problem.

In the beginning I was running Vista 64 and had a EVGA 8800 GTS 512 video card and had the same problem as pictured above by the OP. I may can play for hours, or less than 10 minutes. 10 to 15 minutes seems to be about the norm now. I thought this was a classic heat issue due to all the polygon tearing. I forced the video card's fan and all system fans to 100% via various methods and monitored tempratures, this didn't help. I RMAed the card for my current 9800 GTX.

During the wait to receive my current 9800 GTX, I put in my old ATI 800XT. Not only did I get marginally better framerates with a this 4 to 5 year old card, but I had no crashes. I was certain I had done the right thing by returning my "broken" 8800 GTS.

I receive the 9800 GTX, install it and low and behold I get the same exact crashes. For good measure, I purchase thermalright heatsinks for both the CPU and GPU, these are EXTREME heatsinks like I have never used or needed in another system. All system temps dropped 5 to 20 degrees with these installed. The crashes continue, and there isnt any evident improvement. At this point, I start downloading and running many popular stress/burn-in tests, and have no problems running them.

Now frustrated I spent money on heatsinks, I start looking into software/OS/drivers. I have the latest BIOS update on the MB, lastest drivers for every component of the system. Currently running the 175.16 nvidia driver for the GPU. I get a new harddrive and install a fresh copy of windows XP 32 bit... voila no crashes in EQ2 of the type the OP has posted. However, I get the common memory limit exceded crash that is quite popular on these forums and seemingly has no decent fix.....

Thinking it might be a 64 bit vs. 32 bit problems I wipe out the XP installation and install Vista 32bit. The crashes are back that the OP listed. Exactly the same as my Vista 64 install.

What have I learned from the various setups:

- The crash is not heat related, because EQ2 runs fine with the same hardware in XP with no crash that the OP describes.

- The hardware is fine as well due to these tests.

- It is not a 32 bit vs. 64 bit problem, as the crash is displayed in both flavors of vista with atleast two nvidia cards, 8800 GTS 512 and 9800 GTX (both G92 cores).

- It is not Vista because my old ATI 800XT works fine.

These leads me to beleive that:

- Nvidia's drivers with regard to Vista have issues with regards to EQ2. Whether it be 32 bit or 64 bit. Many many many other games however run just fine with Nvidia drivers in Vista 32 and 64 bit versions....

- EQ2 under vista with current generation video cards IS a problem. This point TRUELY AMAZES me since Sony proudly shows the Nvidia logo (the way its meant to be played.. or whatever). This must just be paid advertising from what i can tell.. because truely neither company works together for quite some time on Nvidia/EQ2 issues (evidence: see MANY posts on this forum dating back for over a year with the 8800 g80 core video cards).

- EQ2's ancient code with respect to DX9 in Vista's natively DX10 environment is an issue with respect to Nvidia drivers.

I'm not sure what the problem is... or all of the above. But I'm at the end of testing various scenarios to get my nice shiny hardware to work with one of the games I would like to play. I want to work in Vista as the OS is quite a bit better to work in imo (even if its bloated to the max...). And I'm willing to take a hit in game FPS for this. But not being able to play EQ2 at all is starting to become very annoying.

I hope that helps the TSR's with some addtional info. I'm surprised to not see this problem more, but I think its people's lack of knowledge of computers and hardware to easily discribe the situation. The OP's screenshot helped me to narrow down that hes having the exact issue I am. Any help would really be appreciated.

Just to add:

After reviewing the OP's hardware list via his dxdiag output, him and I have virtually the same configuration.

E8400 Intel CPU

G92 core based Nvidia cards (8800 GTS 512 / 9800 GTX)

4GB of ram

And very likely the same motherboard since we both have the same System Model: 132-CK-NF78. I have an EVGA 780i, but I'm not sure if that system model is only for the EVGA boards, or just any nvidia 780i based motherboard.

I use the onboard realtek sound device tho, where he looks like hes using a Creative Audigy.

Hopefully the TSR's have some ideas of something we can do.

Welcome to the 7-series video artifact bug go to the forums of your motherboards and look at the biggest post on all of them! If you look at the pictures you'll see it is the same video corruption bug. Been this way for months now I tossed my 780i A1 sli in the garbage such a pos same problem you all are havin. Keep an eye out for a bios update or a fix as they been promising one for months maybe you'll see it soon. Lesson learned I tossed that board got a Asus intel chipset board and never saw that problem again! I'm a heavy raider in eq2 so trust me I searched day and night for a fix and there is none! Thousands of forums are lookin for one but no luck yet. Go to evga's website and they have a mailng list available for when they finally make the fix! Sorry to see other's buy an Evga but you'll feel alot better when you see you are far from being alone!

Ah, thanks so much deathbyburk for responsding. I have been on EVGA's site, and saw the massive threads of problems, but most dealt with video playback and SATA corruption (neither problems that I've had), and I didn't see this specific problem with the "polygon explosion" as I have dubbed it. I'll go over there and check that out more in detail.

As I'm typing this I'm installing XP 64 bit, so atleast I can have my 4GB of ram I paid for addressable. XP 32 didn't crash on me with the polygon explosion in EQ2, I'm hoping this doesn't either. We'll see. I can add tho that last night after making my post, i switched my old ATI 800XT GPU in that I previously stated was ok, and no, it isn't. I got 3 polygon explosion crashes in about 3 hours of play, and the last one came with less than 2 mins in the game, ending my night.

I've been a die hard intel person (cpu and chipset) since i took a chance on an AMD proc back in the day. Looks like I'm sticking with intel chipsets from here on out as well. Were you able to get EVGA to refund you for the board, or did you just have to man up and eat the loss? If I have to eat the loss on a $280 mboard... I don't think Nvidia/EVGA will get any more of my business....

Also, if you check back here deathbyburk, did you get this "problem" in any other game? So far EQ2 is the only one that I get this problem in. Thanks for your reply.

TSRs, please if Sony is displaying Nvidia logos all over the place ("the way its meant to be played&quot please forward this up the ladder to leads or developers of both EQ2 and Nvidia drivers to set up some test scenarios with 7 series motherboards. Its not quite accurate if your game doesnt run with Nvidia products, which are advertised to supposedly get the customer the best experiance possible.

To add to the things I've tried:

Last night I got XP 64 bit installed, got EQ2 installed and patched.. and then proceeded to play for about 4 hours with no problems with the 9800 GTX installed. As far as I can tell, the hardware (probably the motherboard) and Vista and EQ2 are not happy campers together.

With a quick visit to the EVGA forum, they are promising a "fix" this week that may possibly fix this problem. I'm not sure, the issue deathbyburk referred on the EVGA forums seems to be more involved with video playback, not so much game related. The graphical crash I see doesn't quite look like the ones I saw posted in the forum. Is it the same problem? Maybe, maybe not, but likely. I still have my other HD with Vista 64 loaded that I can swap in when this fix becomes available.

So in summary:

This hardware configuration with XP and EQ2 is good (both 32bit and 64bit). Vista (both 32bit and 64bit) seem to have graphical problems.

Waiting for the patch promised this week by Nvidia/EVGA to see if it fixes the issue.
