View Full Version : Opinions for SK Duo Partner

My hubby and I have decided to start up a pair of new toons to level together. He's rather attached to Shadowknights so he'll likely stick to that. (He likes the metal encased cuisinart o' flames sort of fighting... and is partial to darkelf chicks for some reason. lol). I'm pretty much fond of anything non-tankish myself (although my bruiser is a blast)... I often prefer sniper, sneaky or defensive tactics to frontal assaults (hence my affection for coercers). My question is what class would best compliment an SK for a duo running partner?I'm pretty experienced with my coercer. I've gotten a templar to the mid 30's, a bruiser to 29 and a gaggle of things to the teens or mid 20's. Could I realistically run with say a conjy to pinch heal when needed, or should I really go pure priest? I'm not sure if we'll go PvP, but if so I was thinking of perhaps a dirge for buffs and utility over pure heals. Please note I've never been a PvP-er. The hubby's more cutthroat than me. And before anyone asks we're not going to raid with these toons... this is for pure duo and occasional group running. So if you were a bloodthirsty SK starting over again, what toon would you like at your beck and call?

My wife runs an Inquisitor; that worked extremely well for us leveling up together, and we've run every t8 instance with me tanking and her solo healing.I'm not sure pure priest is necessary, but it certainly makes life easy when it comes to forming up a group to run instances. SK + Inq + any 4 is instant group.

Defiler is another good combo for SK, since both are disease-based. I personally think defilers are better duo partners than inquisitors, but that's probably because I've been duoing w/ a defiler for ages, and I suppose I'm a bit biased.

Funnily enough I box my SK with my Coercer ... and they are a fantastic pairing.

Coercer stuns + SK lifetaps = invisible 3rd group member (healer).

Coercer Int + Agi buf and DPS buf = perfect for SK.

Coercer Hate buf = solves any agro holding issues the SK may have (unlikely to be a problem anyway just duo but may creep in if you group them later).

Coercer Charm break + SK Death March (or spam blue AE at earlier levels) = everything under control tyvm.

If you didn't already have a Coercer I would highly recommend roling one to go with the SK

Yorke

Excellent input guys, I really appreciate it. Would anyone care to comment on PvP in case we go that route? I know that would limit us to running evil toons or going exile, although since all the suggestions so far were evils I'm guessing that isn't much of a problem. Since I haven't played a shammy much (it's one of the classes I've neglected to experiment much with) how is the survivability vs an Inqy? I'm a bit worried about casting speed there as I'm spoiled to my speedy coercer atm. Would the coercer provide more of an advantage than a priest in a PvP environment, or just be a squishier target?

Its easily my favorite duo and I have to push my wife to play her Wizard more because she prefers her Fury .

Up to tier 8, only starting ROK content now, a SK and Wizard duo can do instances. We've done many instances together and its generally easier with the Wizard then with a Fury or Inquisitor. (Some bosses can't be killed without the dps of a Wizard, some can't be killed without healing.) The dps from the Wizard more-then-makes-up for the heals lost from not having a healer and everything goes faster. Obviously you approach some encounters differently, some more cautiously some less cautiously. Of course questing and leveling go much faster with a Wizard then with a Fury or Inquisitor. This is with mastercrafted gear and adept III spells, folks always leave this out when making these kinds of recommendations. I imagine a Swashie or Brigand would also make a great partner for an SK as well.

Well right now I am doing a duo with my wife. She is running a Warden with me. They tend to last a bit longer than a fury healing wise. But when we reach T8 she will probably be going back to her Defiler.

Another combo is me and my friend (who runs a Wizard). That is a nice PVP setup, I taunt and he kills. It is easily a nice setup so long as you are watching your surroundings for rangers who like to try to take him out before I can get to them and taunt lol.

As a trio though.... whew...
