Alright, so I've asked this question in the worldwide Pally channel and only got one or two responces. So, I'm still curious...

What is the ideal group for us when raid tanking?

I know some people say we aren't the best raid tanks or whatever, but I don't buy that. I think any plate armored fighter can tank given the right group setup and granted the player, and those around him, knows what they are doing. Sure, Guardians are more suited to tank because of their abilities, but we also have a few tricks of our own (hopefully, we get adjusted a little sometime down the road).

So for those of you who are raid tanks, what is the best group setup that you use? Does it vary on the zone you are in or the mob you are fighting as well?

If there is a "best overall" group that you guys would recommend, what would it be?

From what I've been told, I think it's...

Templar/Inquisitor

Coercer

Dirge

Scout/Mage (with very, very good dps to draw hate from for Amends)

___________ (something else) ?

Or no?

When I'm MTing I use:

TemplarWardenDefilerSwashDirge

I generally don't swap the swash b/c she's on every raid and she's our top DPS...out DPSes our casters and all other melee DPS, she's just that uber...

That really is the most effective set up. Lets explain:

Holy trinity: plate healer, chain healer, leather healer. Buffs from all 3 classes stack. Healing from all 3 classes stack with no issues. You need the buffs to survive the beating your going to be taking long enough to be healed. Also the shaman will be debuffing during the fight which should make things go better if you survive the initial burst damage. Any raid group that doesn't have all 3 healers is farming old content.

Swashbuckler: agro transfer is the main reason. Same applies for assassin. Swashbucklers also have good buffs/debuffs and hit hard. Assassins hit harder but no utility/group help. Both help the tank hold agro. FYI: either class in this role should top the parce since they arn't holding back while the tank builds agro. They ARE building agro for the tank.

Dirge: does this need explination? Melee buffs to help the tank/swashbuckler hit. Power song to keep the tank and group going. Kinda self explanitory. In a real pinch the dirge can rez (if it isn't already a wipe).

Anyways, that is the reasoning behind this set up. While its possible to subsitute other classes in here and there overall your loosing some effectiveness.

Pally Coercer templar defiler warden dirge Amends on Coercer, that will cap 50% hate gain and 50% transfer. and with dirge deffensive buffs and all 3 healers means tank should not die. this is a good set up for any tank realy.

The Coercer is shining after the new changes.
