this is a subject i have been bugged about for a long time. everytime i roll a new toon all of a sudden i get a random invite to a guild and i havent even talked to the first guy on the island yet, who the flip are these people. who would invite someone to a guild and not even say; "Hi i am so and so and i have a guild named so and so, and i would like you to join." but in stead i get boxes flashing my screen for invites and i dont even know who they are. People, ask before you send and invite, check the person out, see if its somone you want to play with. anytime i get a random invite i just say no. and i will always say no. oh and dont bother sending the invite again because that just pisses me off more.

oh for those of you who just send out group invites the same way. I view this the same way as the above text. Ask before you send an invite. say hey my group in running such and such or hey we are just getting xp, want to join? also inviting ten times does not work. the answer is still no. ive noticed this is especially bad if i roll a healer or a tank for some reason.

anyways people get to know people before the invite. your game playing experience will be better i promise.

also im not saying get thier whole life story, just at the very least say hi.

It's one way to build a guild! I play on Kithicor and I used to get random invites for my alts from a well known huge flippin guild there. They just have sheer numbers at this point, but I hear they are a nice, friendly guild so their madness must have had some method to it.I have guild invites turned off now for my low level characters so I don't have to think about it.

This is the reason I love playing my tank tbh. As soon as I log in it's either friends /tell ing me "Hey want to run such n such" or from a few random people "Mind mentoring down to help us run such n such?"

Always got a group except for the later parts of the nights when I'm solo questing and get mowed by a group of Q's PvPing /sigh

There isn't much that you can say that is going to stop it. People will be people. Your best bet is just to turn off group/guild/duel invites the moment that you make a character.

I had a similar experience back when I started. My little halfling was still standing on the beach before hailing Murar Shar and some troll (literally, lol) sent me a tell asking me to join a guild. I hadn't even accepted my first quest yet! I was a little befuddled and didn't know much about the social side of the game yet so I basically told him I prefer to meet folks face to face before I pledge allegiance to them (holdover from AC... god I'm getting old). Shortly thereafter I found and disabled all invites except group. At that point I all but swore off bothering with a guild.

When I finally joined a guild it was after meeting a member in person. They randomly offered to mentor me a bit in a lowbie zone I was soloing in. He ran around with me for about 30 min or so, answering questions and showing me around. He asked if I was looking for a guild later and since he had actually come off like a nice guy I decided "what the heck" and joined. That was almost a year ago I think and I'm still with them, although the toon I was running at the time has long since gone to the great alt graveyard in the sky. THAT is how to to recruit longterm members. It means a lot more to actually meet the folks you're aligning yourself with beforehand and it makes for less turnover IMO. He may have been motivated by recruiting a class the guild needed at the time, but the fact that he chose to befriend me first rather than blindly send an invite or send a mystery tell from another continent meant more. Call me sappy.

I wonder if it's some attempt to get around the "can't send tells" from a Trial character.

They'd send out group invites en masse and spam in the group channel when trial accounts couldn't send tells below level 10 anymore. It seemed to have stopped, though, by the time I left the game.
