View Full Version : Need/Greed loot UI issue

I've made this mistake a few times now as a result of how EQ2 defaults certain keys and I wonder whether the developers could make a change to those defaults.

This is only an issue for no-trade items because it can be resolved by the group with tradeable items. If an item "drops" and the group is running the Need before Greed loot system, the UI window will pop up and I get teh option to Greed, Need or Decline. There have been a few times when an item has dropped that I "need" but would not roll against another member of the group if they also "needed". I therefore usually send a group chat to ask whether they are rolling before I select my option.

However, the default key to chat is "return". If you press "return" when the loot window is focused (which it is by default) the system defaults to a greed roll. There is no way to cancel and return back to the loot option and choose properly. If you cancel at the confirmation stage you do not roll at all. Can developers either:

a) not give the loot UI focus so that pressing return will activate chat

b) make the cancel option on the loot confirmation return the user to the original loot window to choose again - only choosing Decline or timing out should result in no roll being made.

Of course, users could try and remember not to press the default key for chat and activate the chat line using the mouse, but it is much better practice to not have defaults conflict.

Thanks

I can see your issue, and I think I have a temporary solution for you.

Rather than hitting Return to access the chat bar I always start out with either the backslash / button or one of the buttons that directly access a chat channel, like G = /group opens group chat, R opens /reply, and ' opens /say.

Because I use this way to access my chat window I didn't even know this problem existed.

I support the OP on this.

I for one wouldn't like it. I find it convenient to just be able to hit Return to roll Greed on everything, trusting that anyone else in the group who needs the item will roll Need and override the Greed rolls. That (plus auto-round-robin on anything below treasured) vastly speeds up looting, and I'd hate to slow it down again by having to mouse over the window and click every time.NB: I thought the whole point of Need and Greed buttons on loot was exactly to let people roll Greed all the time without risking stealing the item from someone who needs it.
