For the last two and a half to three weeks I've been experiending the worst lag I've ever had in EQ2. I have tried everything I know of from updating drivers to resetting graphics, restarting, system maintenance, pulling old programs off, I've even tried reseating my video card and calling my cable company to see if the ISP was the problem... I'm out of ideas. I'm not running anything any differently in the last few weeks that I've ran in the past year or two. Before this started, I was playing EQ2 just fine minimal to moderate lag (some places are just laggier than others) and running music in the background from a separate program. Now? I can hardly run the game and if I open any additional windows, the game's performance goes down the tubes. The symptoms: I log on and get about 30 frames per second average - as much as 50 and as low as 20. Then the game settles and I drop down to the teens, then down to the single digits. Before it's all said and done, I average about 4 to 6 frames per second. All other readings: ping, bps, and packet loss is fine. It's just the frames per second causing me grief. My system:Dell Dimension 46002.8 Ghz Pentium 4 Processor1.5G RAM7800 GS Nvidia Geforce with 512M RAMI can hardly play on Extreme Performance at the rate it's going.

My problem is exactly the same as yours, having been able to play to balanced settings in the past, I now average 11 FPS on extreme performance settings. I even experience the same gradual drop mentioned by the OP from 30/40 FPS on logging in, all the way down to 11 after a few mins. Here are a list of things that I have tried that have not worked, is there anything more I can do?-adjusted various graphics settings in-game (e.g turned smoothing fonts off, turned off flora, turned off shadows, switched complex render distance to -1, switched to extreme performance...)-downloaded the latest drivers for my video card.-switched off both AA and AF on my video card control panel.-ended all background processes.-removed spyware.-checked the 'reuse vertex shaders' box on performance settings.-fule file scan.-removed my custom UI.-defragmented-made sure my video card was not running on lower settings than it should be (by downloading a 3rd party software to check the MHz in-game)

Update to the update:2g of RAM and a new geforce nvidia 7600 GS with 512m of RAMIt seems my other one couldn't take the load anymore and fried on me earlier this afternoon.However, even with all the tweaking I've done in the last 24 hours, I'm still lagging to the ends of the earth and it's difficult to interact with the environment at all.

If it effects every game then i have the exact same problem, how peculiar.edit:It's also rather disheartening that i figured either the ram or the video card was the problem, but you replaced both and still have it. Might take my box to have someone else look at it, if they figure out whats going on i'll post anything i find.Double edit: Check your fans, i found a few similar problems via google and a lot of them were caused by heating issues.I've also noticed i cant hear one of mine anymore.

Greetings Zhan, The first thing I would check for in this case is heat in the system. Specifically, I would check the power supply. I'm not sure if you've already had yours replaced under warranty, but the Dell Dimension 4600 was notorious for the power supply failing. While your computer is running put your hand by the power supply exhaust fan to see if it is abnormaly hot. DO NOT put your hand directly on it. If that air get hot really fast then it is probably causing excess heat in your system and causing your graphics card to scale back performance. If you find that there is no heat issue then we will need to investigate this issue further. Please provide your msinfo file so that we can use the results to diagnose the problem. Problem solved.A friend originally suggested I check to make sure the video card was seated properly after my move. I did that numerous times to no avail.What my friend should have suggested (that I didn't think of in my frustration) was check to see if my power supply had worked itself loose as well.I had enough power getting to the motherboard to make the computer function, but not to make the video card function properly under the kind of load gaming tends to bring to a machine. I found this out this week when turning on my computer and I had a warning message from my new card.I cracked the case, secured the connectors, and now the card functions properly solving my ingame frame rate issues.It was an expensive lesson, but hopefully this will help someone else avoid the same costly experience.

I'm glad to hear its working for you.Similar story... On my first computer build I could not figure out why it wouldn't boot up. After a week of constantly taking it apart and putting it back together I found out that I had screwed in my floppy drive too tight and was causing a short. Its amazing how the little things can cause such catastrophic problems.
