EQ2 plays smoother on 6800GT than new 9800GTX, why?

Looking for some answers to why on the same system, I can raid at 'High Quality with a 6800GT, but with my new 9800GTX, I have to set it at extreme performance to keep my frame rate over 10.  And even then I'm getting significant 'stuttering'.Seems something is really, really off for this to be true.

Have you seleceted the Reuse vertex buffer option? And are you in windowed mode?

I've tried vertex buffer on and off.I am in windowed mode, its always how I've played the game.
