control alt delete then go to processess. click on any processess that are not critical and end them. Also, right click on properties, go to desktop and click none as your desktop. This will open up a little bit of memory for graphics.

EQ2 is really, really RAM dependent. 2GB is the minimum where I run smooth. 4GB runs very smooth.Meanwhile, there's a good guide to getting the best effect out of yoru graphics settings in the Technical Questions forum: The Complete Guide to Display Settings Options
well i have 1gb lol i use to run perfectly.. use to not lag at all. now its like pure lagg from hell lol

The entire game is suffering from renegade lag spikes. Watch your ping graph; things will be dandy with 150-200 and then OUT OF THE BLUE you'll get hit with 900+ and things will stop responding. Especially in Qeynos Harbor and Kylong Plains. It's only a matter of time before there's a bitter uproar, because we were supposed to be rid of this in a long ago LU. The game was unplayable for me this weekend no matter how expensive my setup, I said screw it and watched DVD's. So much for bonus XP.This is the easiest way to kill a game, you don't even need to worry about artwork or mechanics. Just make it so the server isn't responsive.

Most people seem to have reported that they have less lag now...

I don't experience much lag at all. Now, I am sure I'm not playing on a server all by my lonesome. Which would have to be the case if the problem was entirely on SOE's end. Or my basic cable subscription is absolutely the best on the planet. Or I really did a good job of Frankensteining several of my older systems together to create the world's fastest PC with only 2GB of RAM.*looks down at the 5 year old tower with the side open and a stick of RAM taped down to the motherboard so it doesn't giggle loose*Yah.. must be my hot rod system.

I am currently using a piece of red masking tape and it keeps melting on to the motherboard... help!

Most lag issues I have experienced are related to my internet connection. I played all day on a Cable Modem LAN line with up to date router drivers with no problems. I head back to the hotel where I stay during the week that uses Wireless 802.11g with out of date drivers and I get the 10sec to 1 minute lag spikes.

Not sure if it's related or not, but a friend who plays WoW says he's been getting crazy lag lately on his DSL line. I've had no problem with cable modem. Verizon has streets torn up all over the place putting in Fios and there's a conspiracy theory going around that their slowing down DSL to get people to switch.

SC

Definately, lag might be from many issues.

Check a trace troute to see if there are problems. I had bad lag on friday and it turned out the a "tracert everquest2.com" in the accessories>command prompt application showed the level3.net was having problems. This really killed my internet speed from comcast for any sites that used level3.net as the path after comcast.

Check your connection. Cable internet gets pretty bad if you have more then 2 or 3 splits in it. DSL can get finnicky if you are far from their switch, or if you have old wiring. Check with your provider for assistance here.

If you suspect either of these, call your isp and have them check to see if your internet connection is working ok and see if they know of any outages.

Update all drivers on your computer! These control the hardware. They also get improved and updated to improve performance and fix bugs.

EQ2 is a very processor intensive program. It dosent get much use out of your video card. This was a design decision that many mmo's that were made back in 2000/2001 have to live with (remember, it takes several years to make an mmo before it launches, so they generally have to go with what they have then, not whats availiable at launch. Many decisions cannot be changed as technology advances, or changed easily). Eve had the same problem. Even with an entire client rewrite late last year that was patched in, they still use the main CPU for some of the graphics work.

Also make sure to turn off or delete all the junk that gets installed at the factory that you do not use. Also disable things like the Adobe acrobat reader app that goes in your startup folder, the ms office pre loader thing.. or any other app that prelaods a program. Generally they are not worth running and will only take a second or two off the programs loading time, but they will hog sometimes hundreds of megabytes of ram and slow your system down.

Get rid of norton or mcafee. These two security suites are resource hogs, and are not the best at what they do. Replace with zone alarm free for the firewall, AVG free version for anti virus, ad-aware from lavasoft, and spybot search and destroy that both do spyware and such. They all use less memory and processor time and for the most part they auto update and don't charge for updates.

Other then that, do a good scan for viruses, spyware etc. This stuff can slow your comp down. Also, a fresh format and reinstall of windows every 6 months to a year will also get rid of the crud that builds up and slows you down. Make sure you back up important data first. I recommend using a usb stick (one that is only used for backups and get stored when not actually being used during a backup.), sicne they are inexpensive, can be used right away in any computer, and have plenty of capacity.

You wouldn't happen to be in GFay would you?

That zone is unplayable for me. Any other zone I sit at around 20 to 30 fps on extreme quality with textures turned down by one bump (for some reason the 3gb aware thing doesn't work for me). I ride the acron lift down and I hit 6 fps by the bottom.

I have no clue why, but it does. As a result I just avoid that zone at all costs. ;} I can even run through Neriak on the same settings and get about 15fps. Doesn't make any sense to me, but there you go. ;}

Only thing I could recommend, beyond the above, would be to try turning your settings down. If you are feeling adventurous, pick a general setting from the top, and then read what each individual setting does. Turn stuff down that doesn't seem important and see if it makes a difference. I can't really recommend what to turn on or off, other than to disable shadows if you have trouble with performance. Shadows seem to really cause performance problems.
