View Full Version : 9800 gx2....worse performance then a radeon x1800?!?!

I sold off my 8800gtx and picked up a BFG geforce 9800 gx2 card. The funny thing is, this insane card runs the game at even more sluggish frame-rates then the 8800gtx.  Infact, it's so bad, that I had a radeon x1800xt laying around that I just threw in the case to test, and even still the x1800 performs better then the GX2 card with EQ2.  Now I know that EQ2 isn't optimized for alot of things (actually anything) including dual-core cpu's, hyperthreading, SLi/Crossfire...you get the idea, so is the bad performance just because i'm running the first dual-core graphics card with the game and it doesn't know how to take it?I just don't see how it's possible that the game can perform more poorly on the fastest video card available in comparison to a card that's nearly 3 generations old, even if it isn't optimized for it.  Were talking about a 4 year old game on the newest, fastest video card out there and it performs more poorly then a card that was released in 2005?  Is that some kinda sick joke? This card laughs at every other game i've thrown at it. Obviously, it's the 9800 gx2....This machine runs Crysis at max settings, max AA, max AF and I still get about 30fps in those action packed moments...and were talking about Crysis here, the highest system requirements in existence.Anyway...Is there a setting I need to change? A tweak? A fix? A patch? Anything at all? Something in the control panel maybe? Is it just because the GX2 has immature drivers?Four years later and this "future proof" game just continues to run more poorly on the newer systems that keep coming out. Instead of improving in performance it's been degrading in performance all along it seems.Yet SOE refuses to acknowledge the problems or even bother to try and fix them.  This is pretty incompetent on their part....and we continue to pay for this incompetence.People are still getting the out of memory error (including myself) after nearly 4 years....because the genius who programmed this "future proof" engine decided to only allow it to allocate 2GB of ram...when they had to have known that with as much that's happening in this game while you play, it can easily hit that 2GB limit in a heartbeat....yet they ignored this fact.
