I have a CSR ticket in for one of my characters (Tiomeg, level 56 wood elf monk) which got bugged and crashed (and continues to crash anytime I try to log in that character, and only that character, into the game). For the record, it is Incident Incident: 080411-000164. Note that it is this character, and *only* this character, that will not log in and crashes on me....basically the game loads and just before the loading processes finish where the loading screen disappears and you see the ingame view, it crashes. My other characters I can log in and play just fine without any incident. I've said this several times, and after a couple of rounds with the normal CSR's telling me to try a full file scan, to delete certain files (cache folder, eq2_default.ini, eq2_recent.ini, Everquest2.exe, eq2.ini, and all character-specific ini files pertaining to Tiomeg) with no change to the issue, the ticket was moved up to "Tech Escalation", after it was requested that I send all the necessary files in (DXDiag, MSInfo, etc), which I did....that was on Friday. I sent another message late yesterday to inquire on the status. Just a few minutes ago, this is the response I got back:Hi XXXXX,You might want toensure that your sound settings in the game are set to Dolby. If theyare set to EAX when you have an X-Fi sound card, the game willinevitably crash.I hope this helps you. Best regards,Richard M.Technical Support RepresentativeSony Online EntertainmentUh....do wha? (1.) I've been running EAX the entire time I've owned an X-Fi sound card, and never once had a crash caused by it. Never. I know some people have/do have occiasional issues, and all of us with X-Fi cards so far as I know get the underwater thumping bug that's still never been fixed, and the weird popping noises when you're in a certain landmark in Darklight Woods. But I almost never crash except once in a blue moon in terms of just a pure game crash, let alone sound-card induced. And (2.) and far more importantly, again.....this crash problem is isolated *only* to one character. This is not a hardware, driver or file-related issue on my end. Something with a single character in my Station Access menagerie of characters has become bugged or corrupted somehow. I'm one of the more patient people I know, particularly when it comes to problems like this, and normally have very positive experiences from filing petitions with CS. But this response above simply dumbfounds me.

I should also add in:(3.) Even if it were actually true that (paraphrasing the intent of the message here) anyone using EAX with an X-Fi soundcard always crashes, it would seem to me that the correct course of action, given the widespread popularity of Creative products in the audio department, and the fact that there is actual official EAX support for this game by way of a dropdown box with EAX v1-4 in the game settings, would be to: (a.) acknowledge that such a bug existsand(b.) assure the customer that the issue is being researched and worked on by developmentrather than(c.) Telling the customer to basically pretend the feature isn't actually offered or isn't there and to use something else instead, except in the verbally-stated context of 'until this bug/issue is fixed/resolved'.I mean, seriously, this is like bringing your car into a mechanic because your brakes are malfunctioning, and after having the car inspected, being told "well, you may want to try a different brand of spark plug and see if that helps" even though it's the same brand that came in the car from the factory.

Do you use any custom UI? I had the issue when I had overflow on a character because of an upgraded UI element.

You might want to take a look at this thread from July 2006:

http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...?topic_id=40389Also, it would help if we had the full msinfo file from you.

Thanks.Best regards,Richard M.Technical Support RepresentativeSony Online Entertainment

I'll get another copy to you when I get home from work through the ticket, thanks. Just curious though, do you have the ability/authority from your end to try and log on the character from your end and see if it crashes with you as well? It just boggles my mind that I can log on other characters and play at length without incident but this one crashes at the exact same point every single time.

Delete any EQ2_crash.log[.old] files in your EQ2 install directory.2. Start up and get the client to crash.3. Verify that an EQ2_crash.log file was created, and post the contents of said file.I might be able to be able to determine why your client is crashing with the contents of that file.

Here you go Aut, and before I post it, let me also tell you that for whatever reason suddenly today/tonight, when I try to log him in, he's trying to log into a North Qeynos 2 (i.e. 2nd instance).....which is very, very odd. Maybe on other servers this might happen some, but on Everfrost it's extremely, extremely rare to see one of the town sections multi-instanced. Tynd:It looks like the callstack is messed up, but from reading the stack scan, my best guess would be that you have a custom Inventory window (could be replacement for the inventory window or another window called 'inventory') that doesn't have overflow text (if you're a UI modder, that's "GeneralPage.Overflow Text"). That character has items in overflow apparently. My suggestion would be to use the default UI, log the character in and remove the items from overflow, and then go back to using your custom UI. Or you could fix the custom UI by adding overflow text I've made a code change, but it probably won't go out until the next game update.I don't even see the code... all I see are blond, brunette, redhead...

Not to be rude, but why didn't a GM move the character to a GM account, log it in and move the items out of inventory themselves? Seems like a 10 minute fix to what ended up being a lot of frustration on everyone's end. I've noticed that SOE CS is very hit or miss about such things. I had an issue after a server transfer where every single time I zoned my quiver would goto overflow. I went round and round with a gm till I forced them to delete the darn thing and recreate it on my character. It just seems like basic common sense to me. As a player I don't care what the problem is, or why it's happening I just want it to not happen anymore.

My roomate and I had this problem happen to us on Saturday. I went to switch to and alt, and he was zoning into a raid zone at approximately the same time. It crashed us both to Char Select. When we tried to log in those characters, it would not load, just back to Char Select. We could load up any of our other characters just fine. After talking to some guildmates on Vent, one had suggested that we log out for about half an hour. This worked just fine, unfortunately, my roomate missed about half a raid.
