View Full Version : Levelling up, and tanking in instances -- M1 required?

I keep hearing that to tank decently at all with a SK in most dungeons, M1s are required across the board for the basic spells (stances, taunts), not just adept 3s. Is this correct, or can a SK do OK with adept 3s until T8 when I can catch up on M1s by raiding?Thanks to transmuting pulling 99.999% of master spells from the market, even a T2 M1 runs 20-30 plat, so for the price of one M1, I can easily buy a tiers worth of adept 3s.

<p>M! are a luxury not a necessity. as an example, the first guild on my server to clear veeshan's peak only had about 3 masters in the entire raid when they did this. (it was early in the expansion)</p><p>That being said I recommend every spell should be at least AD3 as soon as you can. its better to get yourself 10 AD3 than one master spell. Masters can come later.</p><p>Personally i am almost fully mastered but i recognize that this is my personal choice not a reflection of how i must play.</p>

<p>What lvl are we talking about here? 20 - 30p for a master? This sounds like T6 pricing, were M1 are super rare. Since there's not much +Spell damage, +crit gear, etc. and Mastercrafted is insanely over powered... You really don't need any masters while leveling up. If a few come up for a reasonable price, then sure... but sacrificing gear upgrades and other AD3 upgrades, no way. Research AA placement, Taunt / Dot / Nuke (or group taunt, aoe dot, aoe stun, other slow aoes, etc), harvest rares if you're a new player without a high lvl piggy bank, and learn the surroundings of where you'll be tanking. All much more important than a 14% upgrade from AdIII to M1. </p>
<p>Dunno, masters are relatively cheap on my server, only a couple p if they're available. (Many times they're not <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />) </p><p>I can tell you that, while levelling up, with mostly masters, MC gear, and adornments, I can tank most level appropriate dungeons with a 2h in offensive stance by out-DPSing the rest of the group (or comming close enough for the taunts to make up the difference). I imagine that with just AD IIIs and no adornments you'd be more than fine in def stance with a 1h.</p>

I've been able to tank up to 80 with no problems using A3's for t7 and t8. I haven't had much problem with holding aggro with exception if the mob is conned Orange (but I think that's to be expected)

T8 SK masters start on my server around 20pp last I looked. I have all adeptIIIs right now and have tanked every ROK instance, so no, they arent needed. The Masters will make life a bit easier for sure, acquire them as you can.
