I just got back to EQ2 since 05, and im very excited about it. The bad news is i kept getting random freezes and BSOD erros during gameplay and random spots...it just would happen even if the game was running great just prior to the crash. My current system is:

AMD Opteron 185

EVGA 8800GTS 512

ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe

Corsair 2GB DDR-400

EAX SB Audigy 2

Antec 550W Trio Power Supply

Ok so basically the only thing i changed since 05 was the CPU and GPU.

Anyways i just couldnt get why i kept crashing, my system was more then enough to handle it. I had the latest drivers, i had tried setting down the in-game graphic settings lower and lower see if it worked. I had switched Miles 2d sound instead of EAX 2. I checked for overheating, and DX errors. All nothing that stopped the crashing.

Well then the one thing dawned on me that maybe would be commen sense is overclocking. Ill tell you why i didnt look into that. Because i had run many tests before to make sure that my OC settings were stable as a rock. Ive run Memtest, Prime torture tests, ATITools for artifacts, and of course several games. All of them i passed, with no crashing upon hours of trying each one. Yet in EQ2 not the case.

I did the next obvious thing, and took my GPU overclock settings down to stock. Guess what, it still crashed! And then next i tried the CPU down to stock speeds, and guess what?!? It has now been one week since ive had a crash! I cant believe my CPU was causing the crashes. And i cant believe EQ2 had a problem with it.

So anyways i just wanted to write this to anyone who has problems with stability and have tried many things, in the end, it could be just a simple overclock that you might of thought should be having no problems, even if its stable in everything else, and even if it has no heat problems at load. Now im happy!

BTW my overclock speeds were the Opteron from 2.6GHz to 2.8GHz and the 8800GTS from 670/1940 to 735/2070. As of now im still running the GPU at OC speeds, but the CPU is back at 2.6GHz......maybe ill shoot for 2.7GHz, could be the sweet spot.

Ok all later!
