Since a few days or since the last two updates there are sudden extreme FPS downbreaks without any reason. Suddenly the FPS sinks from about 40 to about 5. Sometimes accompanied by a total crash to the desktop with the message "out of memory".

E.g. flying a griffon in Kunzar. Extreme "loading lags" during the flight and when it is about to land, FPS sinks to 5 and I am lucky if EQ2 does not crash.

I have 4 GB ram, 512 MB video ram, good old Windows XP Home. I've never experienced such problems before. Everything worked always fine so far. I haven't changed any hard- or software. Latest version of all drivers. The PC that runs EQ2 is a mere gaming machine without any unnecessary background programs.

I've also heard from other players experiencing such problems in the recent time, so I don't suppose it do be due to my PC/settings.

Is it a common problem since the last update? Has it to do with the new performance-anything-detection?

----

Should have been posted on the tech forums.

You are not alone... For a week now my fps will drop from 40-55 down to a solid 6. It will do this after 15 minutes to 3 hours of gameplay and is only fixed by reboot.

A lot of people are having this problem, one of the fun side effects of LU 44.

I've noticed a quick fix will include simply /exit and then right click and end tree for eq2.exe. Out of 10 times, it's only not worked once.Annoying at best.

Why aren't such severe problems not filtered out by running a new patch on the test servers before it goes live? I mean, such issues are not a typo bug within an unimportant quest that hardly anybody comes across.

Everyone has different hardware, you cant predict what will happen with every combination of OS and hardware and drivers interacting with the software you can only take a best guess and aim for the industry standards. If you're getting out of memeory issues have you tried enabling the /3gb switch in your boot.ini file so eq2 has access to more of your memory (it only has access to 2gb normally on a 32 bit OS)? They added this with the last GU so might be worth you doing its certainly helping my system no ends.

How exactly do you do that?

I have 4 GB of memory, with the /3GB switch enabled, and yet I can't seem to get EQ2 to use more than 1 GB of memory =(
