First, take the post to tech help thread. That said, if you have a machine running Windows Xp and you have loaded DirectX 10, that is the problem, directX 10 has a glitch that will let it load into XP but it is designed for Vista and not supported in Xp at all. It will run basic proggies and internet surfing but anything that is graphics intense like EQ2 will not run. I got the same error message after I upgraded to DirectX 10 and the only thing I could do with it was to make a boot disk and wipe Xp and reinstall it. I am sure a few will have some other ideas about it, but that was the fix. XP will not let you downgrade to 9.whatever, and after market fix programs really do not work as well, also be careful how high you upgrade your asp.net, it has similar issues.

<p>who is the nefarious "Error Hen"? Why is he loading your EQ2?</p><p>(Tech Support Forum FTW!)</p><p><img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p>
<p>If you see this hen, run for your life!</p><p><img src="http://www.ryanmaloney.net/images/new_face_of_evil.jpg" alt="" width="320" height="240" border="0" /></p>
<p>While the error hen can be rough, the rooster of rebooting is much worse..</p><p>btw, post this stuff on the correct forum. </p>

Kk dude got back to me about it this morning and it worked. If anyone else has the trouble with it do this You may want to try and disable the firewall, and antivirus software if they are installed. You may also want to that try running a clean boot, by making sure all unnecessary background programs are disabled. Please follow the directions below on how to accomplish this. To disable Windows Firewall:1. Select the START button.2. Select RUN, then type in "services.msc" (for Vista, type services.msc in the search bar at the bottom of the Start Menu)3. Press OK4. Scroll down the list to Windows Firewall5. Right click it , then left click Properties6. You should be in the General tab7. Click the Stop button, then set Startup Type to disabled8. Click apply, then okTo disable background programs. (This will not work with win2k) 1.Select the START button.2.Select RUN.3.Type in "msconfig" (without the "<img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />4.Press OK5.Select the STARTUP tab.6.In the list, uncheck all boxes EXCEPT for SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY . If you use <span class="yshortcuts">Windows XP</span>, please note that SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY will not be listed - Just click on Disable all at the bottom.7.Hit apply and then OK. Restart the computer thats what he told me to do. did it,fixed it. good job =P Later

This fixed my identical error. I have Vista and the firewall disable and startup programs wipe did the trick. I would have figured it out earlier, but I stopped reading this thread the first time because of all the "Error hen" and "get this to the right forum" responses...

Check that - it worked once. Since then I am back to the same error message, and duplicating the sweep hasn't helped.

That fix seems to be helping people who have XP but not vista. If you're running vista then please follow the steps below to make sure vista isn't blocking some portion of the download.1. Right click on the program launch icon2. Left click on "Properties".3. In the new window that pops up click on the "Compatibility" tab.4. In the "Compatibility Mode" area check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"5. In the drop down list make certain that "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" is selected.6. Under "Privilege Level" make certain that the box next to "Run this program as administrator" is checked.7. Click on "Apply" then click on "Ok".8. Double click on the program launch icon.Sometimes the Windows Vista security software can interfere with the patching progress of our games. In this situation, it might be Windows UAC (User Account Control) that is not allowing the game to patch correctly. For the purposes of security, you will only want this feature disabled for the purposes of patching and should re-enable it after the issue has been resolved. Type msconfig in the search box on the Start Menu and press enter on your keyboard. 2. Click the tools tab in the System Configuration box. 3. Scroll down the list and highlight ‘Disable UAC’ then click Launch. 4. Restart your computer. 5. Run the patcher. You can enable UAC by following the steps above but highlight ‘Enable UAC’If this did not fix your issue, or have any further inquiries, please contact us again.

Unfortunately, I have had those settings (compatibility and UAC disable) engaged for some time. I am in contact with SOE tech support. Unfortunately, today the fix he gave me made it worse, as I was instructed to uninstall my NVidia driver and install a different one that works. Sadly, that different one is an XP driver, and now I have no driver at all!

<p>Any other solutions for this issue? I just started getting this error today. I am currently running Vista 32 bit with a Intel Core 2 Duo 2ghz and 3 GB RAM and a Nvida Gforce 8600M GS with 512 Video RAM. </p><p>I tried all the above solutions and they do not seem to work.</p><p>Thanks</p>
