I did a quick search of topics and did not see my answer so aasking it directly here.

How many (approx) tier1 loam is required to get to tier2? I know the tier1 loam sells like hotcakes off of the broker so I am thinking alot.

I realized that I needed to start Transmuting at level 1 after I got to adventure level 30 and could not level Transmuting, so I am switching to Tinkering. My new Dirge is now the Transmuter and already at level 48 thankfully to Darklight and TD starting quests yielding so many transmutable items.

It varied depending on your luck in gaining skill. With tinkering and transmuting it is skill rather then levels. You do not always gain a skill with every combine... It is probably why the loam is pricey on certain tiers... That and not as many people are harvesting it when copmpared to those that need it. You can go and harvest t1 easily enough for the loam....

So as a good starting quantity 50, 100, 200?

I started tinkering last night. Seeing that the broker wanted 12s for Tier 1 loam, I decided to head to Oakmyst to try to harvest some (also Peat Bog and the Caves). I didn't do very well -- I ended up with more rares than loams. Ore nodes just weren't spawning and when they did, I got tin. I went and bought a bunch on the broker to get myself started. Most of the recipes at the very beginning want 4-5 loams (plus tins, malachites and leads) and I got a skill up about every other combine. I only got as far as 7-8 skill before I stopped for the night, having spent most of my time looking for loams.

Those rares come in handy for Transmuting. I ended up with around 10 rares while collecting to make all my new Dirge's 1-9 spell scrolls which I turned into Matercrafted armor to transmute. I wish I would have held onto the Adept1 scrolls now instead of selling them for a few silver after they refused to sell for gold.

>>>So as a good starting quantity 50, 100, 200?<<<Just guessing, but my initial results indicate about 10-12 loams per point. It's 50 points to Tier 2? That would mean on the order of 500 loams (and similar numbers of tins, leads and malachites)

It's been a few months since I powered through tinkering skills, but I seem to recall it took me about 2 stacks, maybe 2.5, to get through T1. T2 and upward more or less added a half stack each until T4 or 5 where it stabilised. When the hard metal started getting too nutty on the broker, I harvested my own and started doing combines to full quality so I could save cash, and worked on using gem-heavy recipes as far as possible.

Good luck, and I congratulate you on not picking transmuting (and thus becoming the rented mule of a redheaded stepchild)

the best place for harvesting tier one i have found is TD outside the town along the shores of the island...there are tons of ore...i had 3 stacks of loam easy in a few hours.

hope this helps!

Darda

permafrost

Darklight starting area is not that bad to harvest rocks either. I think I got 50 loam just leveling from 1-11 and then as you mentioned another 50 from outside TD city leveling from 12-15. I even stopped harvesting once I got to 50 mining since I was trying to leveling adventure fast.

Heheh... it's actually kind of funny, I've been a total slacker on the crafting epic... so now I'm running around with the ingredients for the ones I still need, and am planning to make portable crafting stations so that once I collar people to do the commissioning, they have zero excuse. "Here's the table, now please pop the commissioning window so I can give you everything you need, fuels included."

Call of the Tinker has saved me I-don't-even-know how much time thanks to accidental revives, inadvertent hammer usage and other things; if I were a conjy I'd be a one-man raid insertion vehicle.

When the GSoD feign prevents my death, it costs less than repairs as well as not costing me on the repair bot. When the cheap feign works, it's even better.

And as I've said before and will surely say again, there is absolutely nothing as funny as using the involuntary tinkered rez items and seeing someone go "What the )*(^% just happened, I would have sworn I was dead and I lost 10%, but... but..." Pure unadulterated win, with win sauce and a cherry on top. Ok, so not quite unadulterated... but close.

Just make sure to check your recipies and don't be afraid to keep using a blue recipie to keep skilling up on just cause the parts on the broker are cheap. OK that being said i believe you are stuck in t1 till around 100 skill (yes it was painful) for T1 just farm it yourself, seriously the loams were selling on my server for 2 gold each!! After you finish that tier the rest of the teirs are more/less a hit and miss sort of thing. Really depends on what kind of population you have on your server, so get ready to farm some stuff.

As stated you only need to finish the first bar to get a skill up chance, really no reason to go on to pristine unless you really want the parts back from a pristine (yes there was one recipie in a range that i did that everything else i just did the first bar and stoped) Also check the writeups we have sticked in this form, also the ones on eq2traders and eqflames. Finding recipies can be as easy as blueprint: (yes you need the colon), to enigma transmuting, to OMG you have to know soo many names for all of the privious tier's adornments recipies.

In the end I am very happy I'm a max level tinkerer, actually the only one in my small guild. It has saved us many times as we are dungeon crawling or get a bad wipe/pull. Some of the really nice items take expensive repairs but considering how much i use them the price was nothing really. (I love call of the tinkerer).

It is well worth it to maximize tinkering but it can also be expensive.

Each tier is 50 points. Tier one was terrible because I had to harvest everything, nothing was available on the broker but tin. When you get around 50 you'll have access to the tier 2 book and can use salty loam instead of leaded. That saved a lot of money for me, but when it started getting to about T4 it got expensive again because I had to go find feyiron which is always in short supply it seems.

For me I hit the expense wall around T5. At that point everything was taking 40 loams for a combine and it's just way too hard to harvest that many. I ended up waiting and watching the broker for the prices to come down. They halved the number of loams needed since then but the principle still applies.

When you get to skill 300 it starts mixing up T6 and T7 materials. You'll have one recipe that requires T6 loam and the next will require T7 loam and the next will require T6 loam. You have to carry some of each to keep progressing.

One hint... you don't need to make every recipe. I did just to see what they were, but if something looks too expensive to make you always have at least two at each tier that are white or blue that you can make. Find the recipe that uses minimal ore, some of them even use wood instead. Keep using that for your skillup even if it turns blue or green. I made it through a lot of T4 making T3 stuff because the T3 stuff was only costing me about 1s per combine with cheaper fuel to boot.

Another hint... figure out what you're going to use up and make a lot of those even if the recipe is below your level. For me I made lots and lots of the FD items while I was skilling up and I'm still using them. The three different ones each use a different timer so all three are useful to carry and all three get used up. The manastones are the same way. And though they last two hours you will always need more pacemakers. The tools are about the only thing that sells so if you are at the tier making harvesting tools, more of those are useful.

Conversely you will never need more than one Behavioral Modificator Stereopticon so don't make 50 of those while leveling up because they'll just be poor merchant fodder. The same is true of the various helmets and goggles. They don't really sell well so don't make a ton if you can find better stuff to make.

Zwildstar wrote:
So as a good starting quantity 50, 100, 200?
I go by memory here, but I 'think' I used about 800-1000 Tier1 loams to get to Tier2 (working with blue and white recipes). This was right after tinkering was introduced.

Both Transmuting and Tinkerering aren't the "easy" tradeskills, these are the only ones that have any sort of "bite" to them. They don't need nerfing they are fine. Just remember that you don't have to make a pristine to get a skill up, you only need one bar. I flew through them fairly quickly using that method. Yes it is more part intensive but when parts aren't that expensive ehh just go go go go!!
