I am getting more help from other players then the Tech Devs... *sniffles* You have looked into your Firewall and AV program by any chance? I used to be heavy on the LoTRO forums and for some odd reason, ports and exceptions had to be added every big update... We had an update on the 8th... I know that this is not LotRO... but something to look into I suppose... Settings can change oddly sometimes.

The applications where patched and the checksum of the program changed, so your software firewall/AV is assuming the executable is infected and blocking access to the net to it

First of all, there have been at least 3 other threads about what appears, even more so to you guys, to be the same issue.<b>If you have tried this already or not, please do the following before posting here.</b><ol><li>Disconnect your Router from your modem, turn off the modem, turn off your PC. Plug the <b>modem directly into your PC</b>, turn the modem back on, <b>wait 30 seconds</b>, turn the PC back on. Try to play the game. If it works, tell me in this post.</li><li>If that does not work go to Start, Click Run (Vista just type it in the search box), Type <b>MSCONFIG</b>, Click the <b>START UP TAB</b>, Click the <b>Disable All</b> button, click Apply, OK, then Yes to reboot the computer right away. Try to play the game. If it works, tell me in this post.</li><li>If that does not work open your security software (what ever it may be) and remove the game from it's exception/ignore list and READD the game at that point. <p>I'm a little tired of the smug "do this and this, lol its been posted somewhere else" counter. I've done it all. Firewalls down, in and out of a router, all startup services disabled and enabled, no problems with bounces and tracers. All since the around the 7th. </p><p>I feel like this should be given more of a priority given that there are a number of people with a demonstrably repeatable similar problem. </p><ul><li>Point of disconnection: Trying Login Server #1.... </li><li>Date of first problem: Evening of the 7th</li><li>Server: Antonia Bayle</li><li>Location: Southeastern Idaho</li><li>ISP: Cable One</li></ul>

<p>I've been having the exact same problem and trying, to no avail, to get it sorted out through email with SOE.</p><p>Point of disconnection: Trying Login server #1</p><p>Date of First Problem: Evening of the 7th (Pacific time)</p><p>Server: Oasis</p><p>Location: Pohang, South Korea</p><p>SOE keeps trying to tell me it's my ISP and as I repeatedly explained you guys live nowhere near me and we sure don't share the same ISP. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p><p>I sometimes manage to get past the "Trying login server #1" message and it says loading zone server, then doesn't load, waits about thirty seconds, then spits out a window telling my my username/password are invalid and I have to press the exit button.</p><p>I've sent them all the tracer and connection junk and they said it was such and such that is blocking the connection to their servers, so call your ISP. Why would my ISP care? SOE is the party that is going to lose money if the problem is not fixed, and soon. You'd think they would pick up the phone and call whoever is responsible and ask them to fix the problem. I guess it's easier to just deny there is a problem and then cut and past stuff from the knowledge base such as "Make sure your computer is plugged in. Is you monitor on?" And so on. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p>

Dont know if this is the same problem but as of about 20 minutes ago I keep getting a Network Error - The station launchpad is unable to connect to the network at this time please try again in a few minutes. It isnt my connection, I can connect to the internet fine. I keep trying and trying and get the same message after about 5 minutes of waiting for the launchpad it gives me that message. Anyone else getting this message?
I have been having the same issue. I was kicked to Character Select, exited to relog and cannot connect to network.
If you are trying to log in from Asia, I believe eq2's login server is trying to block all Asian IPs due to gold farmers. I'm currently in Seoul South Korea and had this issue. I called my ISP got my IP changed and it worked. Yet again after 3 days this problem happens AGAIN. I call my ISP again change my IP and it works again. Yet again TODAY it stops working after a few days. Its REALLY annoying.

I live in the UK and play on Antonia Bayle and am experiencing similar problems as are being reported in this and other threads since the update and it's becoming increasingly worse. A couple of days ago I was at least able to play for a couple of hours, but now I can only manage approximately ten minutes before i'm booted to the character select screen with messages such as 'the server did not respond and might be backlogged' etc and i'm then unable to log-in again for some time.

Im in the US and am having this prob on AB. I was able to log in just by clicking on my EQ2.exe file and skipping the launcher all together. I havent been kicked to character select at all (( knocks on wood )) the only reason I was having problems earlier was because I had logged off for awhile and when I went to log back on was getting that Network Error and then the backlog message the first time I tried to just use my exe file, but for some reason only got the backlogged message on one character.
I can confirm that those having the issue of getting stuck on "Logging in Server #1" and "Connection has been lost" on character select screen have gotten their IPs BANNED by the login server. Change your IP or hide it somehow and it will work.

Friend of mine started having this problem a few days ago. All of a sudden now I have it. We're in two different cities so it's not us!I logged in fine a few hours ago and now I cannot get in getting the very same messages. It's not us!Stop telling us to change things. Either Sony did something to the log in servers or something on the net is bad.I cannot play EQ2 now. I'm not banned. So now what?-JB
<p>I never said your ACCOUNT is banned. I said your IP is. Your IP is being rejected by the login server. Try changing your IP through your ISP and i guarantee your problem will be gone for only a few days until it happens again.</p><p>I got this problem completely fix now. Ok you were correct.I disconnected my Router and then reset my DSL modem (I got a new IP issued) and I can now log in.Now why are these IP's being blocked? I hope it's some glitch because I'm in Chicago, never broke any rules and since the same ISP reuses a set of IP's it seems silly to start banning IP's that are not locked to any one person.I have to think it's a glitch and something they are doing that they do not want to tell us. I was playing fine, logged for an hour and then could not get back in.HmmmmmOh well thanks for the help.-JB

<p>They will NEVER admit to that. I quit playing EQ1 after two years because the customer service was so bad. It's only taken 6 months for me to reach that point with EQ2. <p>I can confirm that completely removing security apps is in fact a valid resolution to at least some of the problems mine in particular. After discussion with TSR-DanT as umuch as I swore it was not on my end it turned out it was.</p><p>Specifics </p><p>Was running Comodo firewall.</p><p>I had complete shut it down and killed all running processes thanks to process explorer. Was still unable to log in. Completely removing Comodo resolved the problem. This is a bug in Comodo and not in EQ. All that happend with the client is that the exe changed a little. Even the removal and readding of the exe to comodo exception list was not a resolution. I had to kill it off the system completely /boggle.</p><p>Quit spanking SoE and start looking at your machines. There is something there that is causing the problem. If you dont know how to examine your processes or completely clean your machine get someone to help you. In todays world of agressive protection tools they are starting to do thing to keep you from shooting yourself in the foot which generally ends up causing you to shoot yourself in the foot anyway. They are becoming much more sophisticated yet are becomeing much simpler to operate. When you simply something complex it will make mistakes form time to time. Or in this case it did its job only I thought I had told it not to lol.</p><p> Resolving these kinds of problems takes a little art and a lot of science. As one of my favorite characters Sherlock Holmes said</p><p>"when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, <i>however improbable</i>, must be the truth"</p><p>Now I know a lot of you out there fancy yourselves as network security experts and thats cool but even professionals like myself get fooled form time to time and this was one of those times. I swore it was sony's issue. But I finally figured out it was not theirs it was mine. I swore nothing had changed on my end. I was wrong, something did change. The EXE changed. This is the one thing I think Sony could save themselves a lot of headache with and warn people that this kind of change is comming down and might affect your security applications. Anyhoo I digress. </p><p>What threw me for a loop was when I asked a peer who was playing just fine to trace the requested IP that was timing out they got the same problem. So my one tenet that I held on to to point at Sony was shattered lol. They can play but that addy times out too so it must be a normal behavior.</p><p>Now I had to focus on my machine. TSR-DanT and I exchanged a couple PM's and he was convinced it was my security app. I assured him I had it shut down and wasnt the case. Well shame on me for not completely following his suggestion of removing it.</p><p>So the moral of this story is even when you think you know what your doing you may not have all your bases covered and while applications are supposed to act as advertised, we all know they do not. Even though my firewall was "shut down" it was still filtering traffic. Yes I will be issuing a bug to Comodo on their product and I am happily playing again.</p><p>Bottom Line </p><p>You have to rule out all things within your control before you start pointing fingers at others. If you do not have the technical skills to do that then you need to find someone that does. You are playing a game across a nextwork on a machine with so many possible variables that at any given point in time it can stop working. 90% of those variables are outside of SOE's control yet of course when I cant play and "nothing had changed on my end" we jump for their throat. When I will bet for 99% of you at the moment the problem is somewhere in the stew on your box causing the problem.</p>

<p>If this problem occured on the same day as the game update, I would take that into consideration.</p><p>This problem began occuring one week ago, Monday, April 7th. I have tried to connect to Star Wars Galaxies and I can't get through that login server either.</p><p>I've done everything SOE customer service has recommended so far, and I've gone as far as running System Restore to 2 weeks ago and 3 months ago. I've also completely uninstalled my Internet security software, disabled all startup programs, completely uninstalled and reinstalled EQ-2 twice, done numurous scans to make sure it wasn't a virus or something on my end, made sure my computer can connect to SOE's servers through command prompt, removed everything EQ-2 from the list of "approved" programs and re-added them, and deleted files in the EQ-2 file and run full system scan to repatch those files.</p><p>As of this morning, one week later, <b><span style="font-size: large;">Monday, April 14th, 2008... But there have been many times I have picked up a quick update on load of the patcher that is not represented to the user as an actual patch. We follow the same model here with our software. Internal changes that have no "<i><u>intended"</u></i> user impact are done and not necessarily communicated to the customer. So while it was not exactly timed with the patch - it may be possible that the updated exe may have come down early. </p><p>I did all of the above too and the killing of Comodo was the resolution of my issue. Yours does seem to be a bit different in that I never saw the loading zone or entering world as [Character] messages which leads me to believe that you may have a different issue or its just showing up a little differently.</p><p>It sounds like you have taken the right approach. Did you test with the machine directly connected to your modem? And that is where they opened the ports? Also did you remove all the applcations and test again while directly connected? For several people so far the fix has involved something on their end and I am going to go out on a limb and say that is most likely the case for you as well we just havent found it yet. If you apply simple logic there would be no reason to single you out over thousands of others to shut down your connection. HAving said that there are a lot of variables between you and SOE. Every box along your route path plays a part in the puzzle. As people respond to this thread and more data is gathered there may be a trend that shows every other person having the problem has something in common that will start to provide more resolution to the problem.</p><p>Can you list the security applications you are running? Not just security apps but any malware tools you may be using and any system utilities that may have internet helpers?</p><p>If you really want to get to the nitty gritty pull down wireshark and harvest the traffic and see if you can see whats going on. If you have no idea how to look at a trace then dont do that lol it will make your head explode</p>

<p>Just a note for those of you who are having problems related to your IP being rejected by Sony can you confirm this? I know esar seems to think they did but I can tell you if you think changing your IP and suddenly working again is a indicator that sony has it out for your IP you havent a fooking clue about how IP traffic works and what is taking place on internet every day. </p><p>Most of you probably dont realise that the internet is being hammer daily 24x7 by other countries to prob out weaknesses in the security structure of the single entity in this country that pretty much 99% of all electronic commerce flows on. All your direct deposit paychecks, all you bank to bank transactions, news, some military and government traffic etc. Not to mention pretty much every large corperation doing business in this country is online as well. </p><p>Now every time you create a connection across the line you go through several other boxes to make that connection. In many cases those boxes are being manage by someone. That includes attempts to manage security threats as well. Most of that maangement if not human interaction, its done through patern recognition, heuristics and other algorythms that analys the incoming traffic and take action should the profile look out of whack. </p><p>Does Sony do this? I am sure they do, we all do to protect not only ourselves but our customers. And believe me you want them to do that. Every paid by credit card? How about any other personal information you may have provided. Now unfortunately if your traffic happens to look wrong you might get caught up in this. Not just at Sony but at any path along the way. Those outside this country well your at an even higher risk, that is the unfortunate nature of the world we live in today. I am sure there is a gold farming group out there with enought talent now that they are rolling in cash to try and poke a hole in the security that will give them the information they need to even further frustrate us or worse get the information they need to crack your account and take all your goodies.</p><p>So when you say its a IP problem and its all Sonys, you may be right thats for sure, but there is just as much likelyhood that you are wrong. Everyone likes to bash them and thats cool by me they certainly have had their fair share of hickups. But sometimes you need to do all your homework first before you throw stones. </p><p> And ease up on the TSR's they really do want to help you solve your problems but you need to be a integral part of that process.</p>

These are going to be big sweeps, and lots of accounts are going to get flagged. Much like when we started banning accounts based off of credit card charges to prevent fraud, most of the accounts banned are bad, some of them are normal, legit accounts. <b>In this case simply PM me your station name, we will take a look at your info, and do what we can to get you connected again.</b>Please note, this is not going to apply to the people who are in Cali, or Mass, or Idaho. I'm not really a advanced user when it comes to computers and computer tech stuff, but I'd say I'm a fairly good novice.</p><p>My machine has been directly connected to the modem for almost 2 months now, since switching to Verizon FIOS. Yesterday [4-13-2008], I tried to manually change my IP address, which didn't work. So I called up Verizon Tech Support and asked for an IP change. That was very, very cool because I know it would've taken me an hour to figure that out with them explaining it to me and having me do it myself.</p><p>As far as I know, the only security things I am running is Verizon Internet Security Suite, which has never given a problem with EQ-2 since I first time I loaded it with that program installed, where I had to click "Allow." I also have that Windows firewall thing, which either came with XP or the Service Pack 2, not sure. But I went ahead and through EQ-2 on that "Allow" list as well. I then right click on the name of the gold seller and then add it to my ignore list.Just a thought.-JB

A lot of these PMs are starting to look the same, some people are even using the same form and simply changing the station names. In a few hours the people who PMed me last night and this morning will be updated, and I'll make a new post stating that it has been done, at that time try to log in and report back.

You may also want to that try running a clean boot, by making sure all unnecessary background programs are disabled. Please follow the directions below on how to accomplish this.To disable background programs. 1. Select the START button.2. Select RUN.3. Type in "msconfig" (without the "<img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />4. Press OK5. Select the STARTUP tab.6. For Windows 98/ME, uncheck all boxes EXCEPT for SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY. If you use Windows XP, click on the disable all button.7.Hit apply and then OK. Same for me, i can login, patch the game, but after hitting play and preparing to reach the character selection screen , it hangs on "creating entities" and end with a "lost connection to server" message.i've uninstalled my antivirus/firewall,reinstalled game, tried on two different computer, from vista and xp systems, messed with router, set dmz toward my computer IP, nothing seems to work.I asked a friend of mine to check my account from his computer and he seems to be able to log me on, so i guess it's not an account bane issue hehehehe.I fancy myself being fairly computer friendly, but if the issue is on my side i'm clueless bout what it could be atm.

Cause there are a few issues that are hitting some people when they are CLEARLY working on it? If you are willing to quit after a few days... perhaps you should try looking at some of the other threads that have been going on a lot longer...Complaining and posting in newbie areas, is not the best way to go about this. perhaps you should post your system specs like another did. This issue did not effect everyone... so there must be something in common with everyone that was hit by it... perhaps finding that common link would be a great place to start? Did you PM the techie as he suggested?By the way.. not having an AV program opens you up to a world of hackers.... into your computer... to uninstall it for troubleshooting purposes is one thing... as you reinstall it again after... to not have one at all, is a dangerous thing indeed....

I had been having intermittent problems logging in for some time (since the patch), so I started poking around to see what was going on.I was connecting through a proxy server in IE. Now, since I don't actually use IE and only had set up connecting through a proxy to help a friend do so, I had completely forgotten about it.Took out the proxy and suddenly the launcher connects like lightning.

Same song and dance here since a week ago. I'm in South Korea, and numerous other players on the pen reported the same connection problem. Get past the patch server, try to log into wherever any of my seven (!) critters are camped, begin to load zone resources, cache personal appearance, then zap! Resources unloaded and I'm left looking at my windows wallpaper. Methinks it was a regional IP block due to the nefarious activities of some tenacious plat farmers. I already sent a PM to the TSR in hopes that I can link back up [Removed for Content] my EQ-playing family back in the good ol' USA. For someone who has had 1 to 3 accounts active since 2001, you would think they would show a little more selectivity and respect...

I get the reply from them as below.....helpless and hopelesss. I don't install any extra firewall, the only firewall I have should be the windows xp default firewall. I have tried turn it on/off, both methods not work. DNS is also on auto pick. I haven't use Proxy too....Their reply doesn't help at all. __________________________________________________ _____________________ This is a router type issue, you need to look into resetting your router. Sony Online Entertainment does not support the use of firewalls and proxies, including cable/DSL NAT routers, campus and office networks, or any type of Internet connection sharing services. However, in an effort to assist you in configuring your systems on your own, we would like to provide the following information which may help you in setting up your router or firewall to work with EverQuest II. EverQuest II LaunchPad and Patch Servers A TCP connection is initiated from the LaunchPad client port > 1023 to patch.station.sony.com port 7000. A UDP connection is initiated from the LaunchPad client port > 1023 to sdlaunchpad1.station.sony.com and sdlaunchpad2.station.sony.com port range 3016-3021 and 9700-9703. EverQuest II Patch: A TCP connection is initiated from the EverQuest II client port > 1023 to patch.everquest2.com, abepatch.everquest2.com, laepatch.everquest2.com, or amspatch.everquest2.com at port 7010. Some of the above patchers resolve to multiple IP addresses, so if you have a strict outbound firewalling policy, be sure to check for all IP addresses using a DNS lookup tool. EverQuest II Game Client: UDP connections are initiated from the EverQuest II client port >1023 to servers on UDP ports 9100, and UDP ports in the range 32800-33000. Additionally, ICMP messages type 0 (echo reply), 3 (unreachable), 8 (echo request) and 11 (expired) should be permitted bi-directionally between the client PC and the EverQuest II servers. EverQuest II Servers Subnets: There are multiple IP addresses for the Patch and LaunchPad clusters, and they may change as the network demands, so check often using a DNS lookup tool if you provide a specific firewall rule for these services. The EverQuest II server IP addresses are currently in these subnets: 64.37.158.*, 199.108.11.*, 199.108.12.*, 199.108.13.*, 199.108.202.*, 199.108.203.*, 195.33.135.* Generic Firewall Configuration Instructions: The following information may assist you in setting up your firewall software if you are having connectivity problems with EverQuest II. It is recommended that you follow these steps only if you are having difficulty connecting to the servers or are experiencing random disconnections in EverQuest II. Basic walkthroughs are provided for the following programs: Zone Alarm Internet Connection Firewall Sygate Personal Firewall Norton Personal Firewall McAfee Personal Firewall Tiny Personal Firewall Zone Alarm: Double click on the Zone Alarm system tray icon (the system tray icon is located in the lower right hand corner of your screen where your clock is) Click on Program Control Slide the Tab to the LOW setting Close the window out and run EverQuest II Internet Connection Firewall: Right click on My Network Places and click Properties Right click on LAN Connection (or whatever you might have named your broadband connection) and click Properties Click the Advanced Tab Click the check box that states "Protect my computer and network by limiting or preventing access to this computer from the internet" Click Apply Close the window and run EverQuest II Sygate Personal Firewall: Right click on the Sygate Personal Firewall icon in the system tray and left click Sygate Personal Firewall Pro Click Security and then click Allow All Close the Window and run EverQuest II Norton Personal Firewall: Go through the Automated Setup Setup Home Networking if you need to do so Run the Automatic Program Scan Check boxes next to all EverQuest II related programs and select Permit All under Internet Access Click Finish Double click on the system tray icon for Norton and select Personal Firewall Click on Configure Slide the Firewall slider to LOW McAfee Personal Firewall: Run through the Configuration Assistant Select Allow all traffic Follow through the Startup Options and the Control Access to shares sections Under Allowed Applications, select Search all drives IF EverQuest II did not show up under the initial scan Place check marks next to all EverQuest II related applications that show up Click finish and allow the Firewall to apply the settings and reboot your computer Enter EverQuest II Tiny Personal Firewall: Right click on the Tiny Personal Firewall system tray icon and select Administration Tool Click Application Groups Click Settings and then click Create new Application Group Name the new Application Group EverQuest II and set the Security Level to Unrestricted Go into the Unrestricted Applications group and look for all executable files listed under your EverQuest II directory and move them to the EverQuest II Application Group you just created Close the window and run EverQuest II

Everyone who sent me PMs has been sent over to the magic fixer person. However if you're still unable to connect after I update this thread saying you've been 'fixed' you're NOT having the issue which is the point of this thread. The problem with these forums is everyone who can't connect or load the game assumes it's all caused by the same thing. Zero, you're not being blocked by an IP and the new person who just got the game is not having this issue. This thread is for people who were being blocked at the log in server by all of our games based off of the subnet their ISP is providing for them. Some people on this thread are having OS issues, or driver conflicts, or UI Mods that are messed up after the patch, or firewall blockage. This thread is too long and there are too many people on it NOT having the SAME issue. If you have sent me a PM with your station name, and I have replied back to this thread after saying that anyone who sent a PM has been fixed, and you still cannot log in, you need to call tech and open a ticket and have them look through your files. Maybe even put it in Tier 2.This is a very simple issue, and people having other issues are not apart of it. I would not suggest starting a new thread with your issue at this point, but instead contact tech support over the phone line and have them help you out. It will be much more specific to your issue and the files they request will help find the issue, which is NOT that you're blocked by IP.

Like I said above, and previously...If you PMed me your station name, and I 'fixed' you, and you still cannot log in, this is NOT a blocking issue and you're having some other form of connection/log in issue. In my first response that identified the issue at hand for MOST of the original posters on 04/14/2008 10:03:12 I said that this will not apply to every one. Then starting after 04/15/2008 11:31:39 I was finding people who were not having the same issue as the original posters...I am not saying we are not going to help you, simply that this thread really isn't the best place considering it's now 9 pages long and littered with posts not about your issue. I'm trying to get your specific help so we can figure out what's going on... At this point it really is your best bet to contact the phone line and open a ticket and get those files to them, however it's your choice to do that or not.. the ball is in your court here Zero.

<p>I can log in now. But I don't feel like I should thank you guys for indiscriminately blocking my IP for five days, and only unblocking me cause I managed to find this thread and asked you to fix your mistake. </p><p>Being denied access to a service I pay for, without any notice or warning, simply because my IP falls within a range of IPs you guys assumed to be the source of some fraudulant accounts, is really bad business. Perhaps you should stick to banning accounts you have verified as violating the EULA, instead of blocking people en masse, until they manage to figure out why the game crashes on them after spending a few hours trying to troubleshoot their game, PC, and network and finally figure out to send you a PM asking to be unblocked. </p><p>I wonder how many customers didn't find this thread, and think the game was broken by the last update, and just stopped playing like I almost did... </p><p>I'm assuming any kind of compensation from Sony to express regret for their mistake is beyond their comprehension of customer service... so I guess I'll just have to remain angry, and feel like i was ripped off.</p>

<i><span class="postbody">"within a range of IPs you guys assumed to be the source of some fraudulant accounts"</span></i><span class="postbody">This is where you're wrong. We are not guessing. It's been verified. There is no question about the ranges of IPs being used and their need to be blocked. You happen to be a legit customer on that range, and I do apologize that you got caught in all of this, but that does not change the facts behind the choice to move forward with this type of action. These types of things are not only for our good, but for our customer's good too. There were a ton of account compromises, thefts, and bannings due to these spammers getting into customer accounts. If they would have never been able to infiltrate in the first place a lot of this would have been avoided, but they have gotten in, and it's gotten obscene and we need to take a stand and stop them.Again, I am sorry for all of the innocent and legitimate customers who have had a problem because of this, but we have to do something. As for the customers who were unable to find this thread, we do have live chat, email, and phone lines for customers to contact. The entire tech department is aware that this is happening and for the most part we are no longer getting contacts about it from legit customers.</span>

<p ><span>I know its easy to be happy while my IP is not banned... but I do have to say for this one I'm all for blocking ranges(even if it meant I couldn't play for a week or two). It is an inconvenience and easily accepted to be downright frustrating to not be able to play for a week while sorting things out(and for those effected, good business practice would be a pro-rated month). However, do realize it was just a week in a game most have invested years. Should your account be stolen by one of the scammers(which has been happening a lot) then you would lose more than just a week of time. It is sort of a necessary evil. Yes, legit players will get caught in the net and need to be helped, but also hundreds of scammers will be locked out too, which is good for the entire player base. Just my 2 cp...</span></p>
