does EQ2 see 3 gigs of ram if windows XP Prof sees 3 gigs of ram? I really dont want to use the /3GB /PAE switch as that will have adverse effects on the rest of my system.

I saw this posted somewhere and it doesnt make any sense to me. Especially considering I dont have Visual Studio on my PC and EQ2 isnt installed in the default folder:

cd Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio 9.0Common7IDE....vcbineditbin /LARGEADDRESSAWARE "c:program filessonyeverquest iieverquest2.exe"

This is suppose to allow EQ2 to see 3 gigs of ram I just dont know how/what/where to use this and what is required.

any help on this would be appreciated

The game will only see up to 2 gigs of ram.

The game is "Large Address Aware". You should enable the /3GB switch as it allows more usage of the 2 gigs that EQ2 will see now..Basically this will allow EQ2 to run comfortably without hitting issues due to background processes and various programs to interfere....Well...this is what Microsoft says anyways...Here is some more info on it.../3GB switchNow...according to this article, EQ2 should be able to see more memory. But, my thought is that instead of hitting a wall like EQ2 would before (usually the out of memory error said the game ran out at about 1.5 gigs or so when it puked)... if you have 3 gigs, instead of the "programs" or background processes eating into the 2 GB limit of 32 bit windows, and killing EQ2, the game client can survive a memory leak longer than before..So, use the switch...I did, and I am happy now..it has stopped my memory "drip"(Hope this made sense...and until a Dev comes in to explain it better...this is all I got)Thanks(EDIT: TSR-DanT - Seems this data has changed since LU44...check Autenil's post HERE - Also, he states you MUST add the /3GB to get this to work properly...)

Do you use just the /3GB switch?

have you noticed any adverse effects in other games?

would you recommend using "/fastdetect /3GB /Userva=2900"

Im just afraid that drivers writing to my kernel virtual will exceed the 1 gig mark

If any devs could help with this Id appreciate some input.

I too would like to know if EQ2 would work with a /userva=2560? I don't wish to give all 3GB to EQ2 due to video card swap space using up 512MB already, but giving it 2.5GB should be okay.

you CAN make EQ2 utilize more then 2gb but you MUST alter the EQ2.exe file as well as use the /3GB switch for XP Pro. I cannot remember atm what the program is you use (has a red chile pepper icon though) to make that alteration but its a pita to mess with. You have to run the normal game start up (which is everquest2.exe), let it patch whatever needs patching. DO NOT let the game auto-start or you will lose the chance to make the change. Then you have to open the editter i mentioned and import the EQ2.exe file. Make the change necessary to that file switching it from <2 to >2, save and close. Then hit PLAY on the launch pad as normal and you're off and running with an EQ2 fully accepting >2 of ram. If you do a search on my name in the tech forums, you will find the information eventually. i posted about it quite a while ago.

WARNING: as you will see with subsequent posts, people tend to get their panties balled up and stuffed in uncomfortable places when you even begin to think about possibly mentioning making any changes to the .exe file. So, i give this warning in case someone here somehow, someway gets in trouble (which you won't but hey, i'm giving the warning anyway so avoid as much panty bunching as possible), you won't/can't come back and accuse me of putting you in that position. It's a choice which you AND ONLY YOU can make. i am not behind you with a gun. i can't make you do anything... except possibly come on here and post subsequent bunched up panty comments... that i enjoy seeing. makes me smile.

Game on!

The game should already have the large memory aware flag set on it after the latest GU.

I highly doubt that they would have done it, just saying they could have. But as of right now, its totally unnecessary to try and alter it. BTW, before you insult someone with your "intelligence" try making sure that your examples are the right ones. Posting a screenshot of the unaltered eq2.exe file was kind of laughable considering it doesn't run the game.
