View Full Version : Problems Logging in.

I recently reinstalled EQ2. I got through the entire patching process after reading about needing to run as administrator on Vista. My problem now is that once I get to character select and press play, EQ2 just seems to stall out at either trying to find my character on the selected server or at the Logging into zone server parts of the zone in process. I have deleted EQ2 and reinstalled and have also deleted my cache folders and Everquest.exe files and reinstalled those. This is happening on all my toons on two different servers.I should mention this is a new laptop, I previously ran EQ2 on my old laptop. I am running Vista 32bit, 1.66 core2 duo, 3 gigs ram, Nvidia 9500. I am directly connected to the Internet and I have placed EQ2 into my fire wall exceptions and I do not have a anti virus program installed yet. It just seems the game tries to load, but just falls short somewhere. I am using the same ISP I have since I started playing.I would be greatly appreciative of any tips or solutions to this problem. I have tried some tips in some other posts, but none of those seem to be just like my problem. My poor Kerran is getting bored chasing his tail around the Fens. Thanks for your time, Katano from Nektulos

Could a firewall or AV program be in the way by any chance?

I have placed EQ2 in my fire wall exceptions and I do not currently have a anti virus program installed. Unless there is something else I have to do with Vista security that I am unaware of.

I am having the same issue, I cannot log in with my main character although alts are able to do so. I have changed nothing on my computer since Saturday evening, the last time I was able to log in.

I'm having problems as well and when I do finally log in on my character and try to zone, I get booted to the character select screen.

An update on my situation. I had done everything I know to fix the problem, drivers etc. and nothing was working. I figured it may be a network or other hardware issue with this new laptop. I went to a friends house and loaded up EQ2. They have a wireless router. The game loaded and I was able to play. However, when I took a hardwire and plugged it into my port and turned off my wireless I ended up getting stuck at the same spot I was at home, the logging into zone server part.I am not sure what to do. I even went out and bought a wireless router for home to see if that solved the problem. I am currently trying to install that. I just feel it is odd, usually problems occur when you have a router attached and not when you are using a hardwire. I hope this is not confusing for anybody. Any other suggestions on a fix would be appreciated. Thanks, Katano from Nektulos

I too had (hopefully past tense) this problem all weekend. Started morning of 4/5/08, the evening before I had no problems. I could sign in to Launchpad, and EQ2 would start, get into the login servers, and then attempt to load the zone my char was in. That would time out, and boot me to char select. Subsequent attempts would result in complete failures to log in most of the time, a few times I would be able to sign in, but if i zoned, i got booted again to char select. And the official eq2 websites were all barely loading, most wouldn't load images or javascript. Here's what I did to troubleshoot:1) DMZ the pc2) take the router off completely, plugged pc into DSL modem3) killed ZoneAlarm4) killed Peer Guardian25) intalled wiresharkThe first 4 had no effect on the problem. Installing wireshark showed me that i had great UDP packet send & recv between SOE servers for login, char select, etc. No packets NOT returned. But then when logging in, it was specific to 199.108.12.77 (which is verified to be a SOE server). Tracerout TO that IP went fine, and wireshark showed every UDP packet i sent there being OK, but there were zero response packets from that server. So the culprit was either my ISP, or SOE's server not responding to me specifically. And due to it being a problem on Saturday, there's no helpdesk support from my ISP, which i believed to be the problem. So I was waiting it out yesterday & today, checking every couple hours (wow, that make me sound like an addict?), and the problem *seems* to have been fixed sometime between 3pm and 7pm EST. I will still be following up with my ISP on Monday in the offchance I get someone knowledgable enough to actually answer my questions.Has this come back for everyone else?-Dronk

It would be really nice at this point to get some kind of confirmation of the issue being on SOE's side so we can consider this resolved.Mendle - I think you might have had a bigger issue, I was at least sending out traceroutes successfully, I just wouldn't get any packets back from certain servers. Your traceroutes showed your ISP not even sending them out at all.-Dronk
