Hey all just purchased the game after hearing many good things and being SICK of WoW and it's community. However as i know next to nothing about the games classes i was wondering if you could help me In MMO's i generally tend to play DPS classes and i would like to be useful in raids as well as PvPJust wanted to see if there were any classes that match this description! Thanks to anyone who replies,All the best,Rivanwarder

Rivan, take a look at the top of the Newbie Yard and look in Confused by class choices? Look here. That thread discusses the class choices and will help you get a general idea, then you can ask more specific questions.

Brand would have been a Guardian IMO <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" width="15" height="15" />

Edit after reading and making an attempt at a witty response to add that Rogues (Swashbuckler/Brigand) are nice DPS and solo well. Not top of the heap normally, but still nice and wanted on raids for both their DPS and debuffs/utility. Brawlers (Bruiser/Monk) do nice DPS and are great soloers, but not in high demand for raiding. Predators (Ranger/Assassin) do bigger DPS than Rogues but I've found them harder to solo than rogues. They also usually have a spot in raids

Let's see would you want me telling you what the best ice cream is? Seriously picking the class that fits you is something that you truely need to go through the experience yourself. I would suggest as a previous poster suggested reading some of the stickies since you are downloading, also checking out some of the class forums. Ignore the whiners. Also i would suggest once you finish downloading try a few different classes that happen to catch your eye. Get them to level 20-30ish and see how they fit. IF your having fun with a partiqular class well by all means keep on playing it!!

As to the PvP side of the world, My best advice is first roll on a NON pvp server so that you can get an idea of what the game is like to begin with. Once your on a pvp server it is very very very brutal. You need to have all of your spells and gear up to snuff to even survive, also a guild is highely recomended. I would suggest checking out the PvP forums and seeing if this games version of PvP is something that you would enjoy. Like i said seriously learn the game first on a blue server before you go to a pvp server..

Do you want to be a range dpser, mellee dpser or range dpserFor mellee dpser go swashie or zerker
For range dpser go ranger

For magic dpser go wizard

It depends whether you want to do alot of damage from afar or be close up. Zerkers are great for mellee dps but at end game raids they get a dps slot and a wizard out dpses a zerker so you'd want to think about that if your planning to go end game. Also warlocks get the most dps on their meter due to the fact that they mow down lots of mobs at once but they die too easy.

Hope this helped.

Asking what class (or even what race) you should be is just asking for trouble, even in the enlightened air of EQ2

Pretty much every class has a role to play but it really comes down to the player controlling the character, same goes with the APs (they enhance the character, they should not define them) it comes down, imo, to how well you know your characters skills and can get the best result out of them (race pretty much plays no role apart from looks, and you can fix those in most cases with the petrified eyes of most races)

Yes, Najena has been the Unoffical APAC server since before EQ2 went live If you can't find someone on when you are, you just are not looking hard enough
