View Full Version : Need help with Fusion

The damage capability presented by Fusion keeps me trying to use it. More often than not, however, I miss my targets, or at the most hit a single target. I coordinate with my teammates via vent, trying to line up mobs, going so far as to try pulling groups directly in front of my wizard. Once the mobs reach us, though, they tend to 'break up' and stand among and around us, rather than clustering up in a way that would let me hit more than one of them. I would like to hear from players of wizards who have figured out an effective way of targetting this spell. Should I simply give up on trying to hit multiple targets, and resign myself to thinking of it as a single-target attack? Would putting points into the Acheivement tree for Fusion help any? How much? Increasing range and radius by '1' doesn't seem like much. Any and all advice is welcome.

Mainly it is practice that will let you hit multible mobs with ease using fussion/fission. The AA enhancer will indeed make it much easier to hit mobs, even though it dosent seem like much if you do the math it become a huge increase ina hit box. Non modified it is 5 m range wiht a 60 degree arc, or basically (piR^2)/6 or at 5m it hits (3.14*5^2)/6 or ~13square meters for a hit box. max out the AA and raduis /range is 10m so it becomes (3.14*10^2)/6 or ~52 square meters for a hit box effectively increaseing the damage area by 4. This will also mean you want to stand a little further back to open up the arch more to get a better hit chance.

Use fusion on single targets as well, it is a big hitter, no reason to save it for AEs where you will more than likely get agro when it lands. You can also cast numbing cold just before fusion to snare the target encounter if they are in range and if you get aggro you can easily kite them until the tanks gets aggro back or they die.

Agree with simp some points in fusion/fission will pay back bigger dividends than just about any other AA. One minor technical correction in his 10 meter formula follows: 3.14*10^2*65/360 = ~ 57 sq meters I had 5 points for a while and then dropped back to 3 points giving an 8' 63degree arc and like it a lot. One other suggestion that will helps me a lot is add /toggleautoattack to a macro for your fusion, forcing your wiz to turn with the primary target as it moves. This will allow you to concentrate only on your range as it you will automatically be pointed at your target. This is an old macro I wrote way back when my wiz was an active raider, I think it still works../ : ; usea freehand sorcery ; toggleautoattack ; usea catalyst ; usea fusionDuffus

yeah forgot about it increasing the arch by 1 degree per point as well. I normally use amadexterous casting to help me with range and to toggle my auto attack. I hit freehand if it is up, then start casting fission then hit amadexterous casting which lines me up with the mob and gives me a little damage from the CA, also as it is a CA it has a range of 5m so if you can use it the fission is in range for sure of your main target. I personalyl have 4 points into fission and after using it fo ra good amuont of time knwo exactly where to stand to hit max amount of targets.

Normally i stand off to either the left or right of the tank as the mobs are normally at least in front of him.

Thanks for the replies. I've used /toggleautoattack in other macros, and it never occured to me to use it in this instance. Incidentally, you can shorten that to /auto1

Another question, does the AA endline ability Spell Reach work with Fusion? Would 5 points in Fusion plus Spell Reach give Fusion a range of 16? (Base 5, 5 from Fusion AAs, and 6 more from Spell Reach)

unfortunately it will not increase Fusion as Fusion is an out of encounter AE and as such uses radius not range to determine how far away it will hit.

Just a small tip when using Fusion. Create a hot key for your Brock's Thermal Shocker. It was a quest rewared from Bonemire. It's a 500ish clicky nuke. It makes a pretty good range finder with the spell. With the Fusion AA upgrade it has a similar range as the shocker. It's pretty useful for when determining if something is going to be close enough.

You can also just put Brocks on your hotbar and wiht 5 AAs in Fission they will have the same range, no need to try to use it, if it is useabel them fusion is in range. Taht is a good tip btw Griffinhart
