I tried a search on this and got HUNDREDs of responses. It cant be searched because it shows up in every single log of a problem.

Is there a track record for ctfmon causing problems? Everytime EQ2 crashes with a fatal error, ctfmon is there. I'm suspecting this is the culprit. I always turn ctfmon off in task manager, but if I crash, there it is again. Sort of obviously causing the crash.

Could someone tell me how to disallow ctfmon? It only exists for Office stuff, which I dont use. But it seems to hog mem and resources when it comes on. And it crashes EQ2.

I tried going to Services to turn it off, but cant figure out how. Its not obvious.

I did a web search for 'what is ctfmon' and this page came top of the list....everything you need to know is right here..http://support.microsoft.com/kb/282599
just turn off advanced text services and ctfmon will quit running. Its in your control panel under regional and language settings I believe.

BTW I just had a major flashback. I tried doing this the Microsoft way a while back. You go to control panel, add/remove programs, remove microsoft office/works (even if you dont have them) then choose one of the add/subtract items, and... finally ctfmon is gone. Except it isnt. It comes back to haunt you.

Any other suggestions on this?
