Set EQ2 Maps as Admin too. Restart and log into Vista as Adimn too. See if those work.

Try disabling UAC?
Kaliguwra@Mistmoore wrote:
Try disabling UAC?
Best advice ever. Unless you have people using the system who click any link or dont think before they download programs or have no internet security UAC is useless and an annoyance.UAC caters to the lowest computer user who thinks security is having a lock on their computer room door.

UAC does cause alot of problems and add in Window's Firewall and you have a headache. Disable that and see if that fixes your problem.

Add to the fact SP1 is general release, that helps a lot also. These instructions I start using over 18 moths ago and run fine prior to SP1

first, locate the following files.

LP_plugin.exeEQ2.exeEverQuest2.exe

then for each one, right click them and then choose properties. from there you should see a button to "run as administrator" or something similar, i am not at my vista machine, so i cant remember exactly. in that window, look down it, and a little ways down, you will see a checkbox that does the same thing, but when checked, it runs each time the app is run and does not require you to do it each time it is run. also, there is a checkbox for the compatibility options. check that checkbox, and then make sure it is set to windows xp SP2 in the drop down just underneath it. it defaults to xp SP2, but i am just covering all the bases. then, if there is a button at the bottom of the window that says "apply" click it, then click ok. if there is no "apply" button, then just click ok.

now, when you run from the shortcut on the desktop, you do not need to set it to run as admin every time you start it, and you should not have the LP_plugin error any longer either.

also, it is a good idea to right click the station and EQ2 folders under sony in Program Files, and make sure the folder permissions for read-only is not checked. this will allow the patcher and the launcher to write patches to the folders if patches need to be done.

I am having this issue with my computer. I can cancel the warning box and play, but it's still annoying. I've managed to locate the EQ2 and Everquest2 files, but I can't seem to find the LP_plugin.exe. Anyone know precisely where this is supposed to be stored?

Edit:

I found the file and did the run as administrator thing and it still gives the warning. I am guessing I am one of the few this doesn't work for.

This is by design of the Vista security model, although it is a little less retrictive with SP1 installed. Personally it does not bother me at all, but then I also have my pc's, network, firewall and router like down tighter then what normal home users are willing to put up with.

There is a post on this forum on how to set the game ti run as a task instead of a application, this will remove the UAC warning box.

For my home PC I use more of a blanket approach to vista compatibility. I play quite a few MMOs, and don't like to set up each to bypass the UAC separately. Below are the steps I use when setting up my computer right after a re-install.1. Right click on the program launch icon2. Left click on "Properties".3. In the new window that pops up click on the "Compatibility" tab.4. In the "Compatibility Mode" area check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"5. In the drop down list make certain that "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" is selected.6. Under "Privilege Level" make certain that the box next to "Run this program as administrator" is checked.7. Click on "Apply" then click on "Ok".8. Double click on the program launch icon.Sometimes the Windows Vista security software can interfere with the patching progress of our games. In this situation, it might be Windows UAC (User Account Control) that is not allowing the game to patch correctly. For the purposes of security, you will only want this feature disabled for the purposes of patching and should re-enable it after the issue has been resolved. Type msconfig in the search box on the Start Menu and press enter on your keyboard. 2. Click the tools tab in the System Configuration box. 3. Scroll down the list and highlight ‘Disable UAC’ then click Launch. 4. Restart your computer. 5. Run the patcher. You can enable UAC by following the steps above but highlight ‘Enable UAC’Let us know if the problem persists.

The UAC treats any installed application there differently then in the other directory. I place my frequently updated games in a ..games directory that is created off the root of drive. The UAC handles this normally rather then setting up virtual registry entries and other security related files. Tends to cut down on the problems with patchers. This has worked for eq1,eq2,MO,SWG,Vanguard,WOW and the various card related games for SOE. Once the security for run as is set have not had an issue with the patchers in the games and the UAC is still on

The game patches just fine, it simply halts the launcher window unless I cancel the warning.

setting compatibility fix to windows 98 fixed this problem as described in Vendian's initial post. EQ2.exe lp_plugin.exe launchpad.exe I am still having issues with everquest 2 as i am hardly able to launch the game at all . I usually have the intro appear and then it crashes. This is the case for both Windows XP 32-bit and Vista ultimate 64-bit. installed on the same hardware and two separate installs of everquest 2. The drivers are latest. AMD 64 X2 6400+ 4GB DDR2 800 ATI HD 3870 Catalyst 8.12 Hard Disk 1 Windows XP 32-bit + EQ2 rise of the kunark installed + update The shadow odyseey from Station Store and updated via patcher. Hard Disk 2 Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit + EQ2 rise of the kunark installed + update The shadow odyseey from Station Store and updated via patcher. I saw there might be an issue with .Net Framework 3.0 I currently have 1.1 , 2.0 , 3.0 and 3.5 installed [EDIT] fixed my problem of the black screen It appears EQ2 does not like being multicore on my AMD 64 X2 6400+ and the "cl_multicore false" in the ini fixes I though multicore support had been improved ????
