The illusionist is a much stronger leveller - solo or in group. If you wish to make a coercer, the fastest way would be to level an illusionist and betray.

That being said, if you wish to make a coercer and are in a group most of the time, you might want to make a coercer, so you get more familiar with how it operates.

I leveled faster as a Coercer than any of the Illusionists I knew did. Solo'ing or duo'ing with a Warlock was typically 3x as fast on the exp as grouping was, sometimes moreso. For speed at levelling I would never recommend grouping, at least not as a Coercer.

For learning to play your class - sure, for easing the monotony of solo grinding - definitely.

If you're going to be in a group with 4 people most of the time it really won't matter either way. But you'll be retarding both your exp rate and the skill at which you ultimately play your class if you don't learn the in's and out's of soloing.

But yeah, if you level as a Coercer, always be on the lookout for Master I versions of your charm spells, and get used to the idea upfront that hitting revive 25 times in a night is not an unusual event. After all, charming a mob 9 levels above you gives you the teensiest window of reaction when charm breaks to avoid dying in 1 hit.
