View Full Version : Why does the keyboard layout keep resetting?

Every time I setup a custom keyboard layout, it resets back to the defaults the next time I play the game. I tried saving under 'other' and saved under several names. When I discover the that the settings are back to the defaults, I try loading one of the saved profiles and nothing happens. I find it hard to believe that this is happening to everyone, so what am I doing wrong?

Is your launch pad scanning and down loading files all the time before you can go in game or to your select screen?

This isn't a Look and Feel question and should have been posted in the Tech Support forum, and you probably would have been able to find this solution.

I tried what was suggested in the thread and it did not solve the problem. However, it lead me to an imperfect solution. I create a custom ini file, then copy it over the default ini for United States before the game starts but after the files are finished updating. It's cheezy, but it works. I don't know what is wrong with the keyboard layouts, but there is definately some kind of bug because when I specify Other or Custom, it simply displays the default keyboard layout.

I've /bugged the problem in game, maybe someone will fix it. I asked other people in the game if they had problems with customized keyboard layouts, but everyone seems to use one of the default layouts that are available.

No I'm using a Saitek Gamers Keyboard with a programmable keypad.

I've had to use this workaround a couple of times now (due to having to reinstall) and it works every time. I've also pointed several posters on the forums to it and they've all gotten it to work correctly after fully following the instructions there.

If so maybe if you set your keyboard to its default settings or if you can shut the part that is programmable off, that may solve the problem. But I'm just guessing...Before you do this. Try disabling the G15 keyboard in your options...

The keyboard itself isn't programmable, the command pad is basically a USB device that plugs into the keyboard. I've had the problem with the command pad disabled and when it's active, so I don't think it has anything to do with layout problem. The G15 option is on as I recall, so I'll try shutting it off.

So far my fix of copying my custom profile over the default United States profile after EQ2 updates all files, but before the game launches has been working. It's cheezy, like crafting is cheezy in the game, but it works.
