I have just received my BFG9600GT OC card and I am still having the video card shut down on me randomly.

BFG has extensively tested the card I sent back to them and found not issues with the card. They are convinced it is a Combatiblity issue with the new video cards and EQ2's graphics engine. They keep telling me that I need to wait for EQ2 to have a patch for the card. However if SoE can't admit or even confirm there is a possible conflict a patch can never be made.

I did find this intresting information looking at the NVIDIA Driver Notes. I wonder if EQ2 uses hard coded buffer to parse OpenGl extension strings.

Medal of Honor Under Windows XP/Windows 2000

Problem

The Electronic Arts game Medal of Honor uses a hard coded buffer to parse the OpenGL extension strings. This can cause a system crash under Windows XP and Windows 2000.

Workaround

NVIDIA has implemented a Medal of Honor application detection to work around the extension string crash.

Now I know my system doesn't technically crash until the video card loses sync with the cpu. Either case though I have to hard reboot.

BFG also seems to be willing to work with me on this issue. They might even buy EQ2 to try to test the crashing I am seeing. I have even offered to take my whole system in to they can just use mine and see what is going on. Anyway I still think is on SoE's side and has to be a fix from them or maybe a suggestion of how to set up the NVIDIA drivers. Like maybe have the Video card force things on or off instead of allowing the application from controlling everything.

I look forward to hearing from SoE technical support on this issue. I know it might be minor to you all but it is sure a thorn in my side right now.

Side note:

I played Crysis on high settings at 1440 x 900 most of the weekend and solved the game with no crashes. So I probably put in over 12 hours in that game on the weekend.

New Update:

Looks like it may indeed be a driver issue. Someone suggested that I run the 9600GT card with the 9800GX2 driver. As of now I haven't had a video card crash. But I have only tested it for about 4 hours. I'll know much more by Monday because I will have raided by then and that can stress the card pretty good.

Stay tuned for another update.

If you are still having headaches with your new card you may want to try talking to [email protected] They are mighty good at helping solve pesky problems like you are having. Drop them a note and feel free to talk technical with them. Hope that helps! Good Luck! Twizel

If you're still having issues let us know. You might want to try using a driver cleaner to make sure you have only one version of drivers for video cards installed.

Well driver didn't work.

Yes I have used driver cleaner. There are 2 extensive threads on the Nvidia and EVGA forums on this issue. Seems those of us having issues still have been unsuccessful in resolving them. I will try to contact tech service when I get some free time.

Is the problem you are having where the screen turns black? If so, I have the exact same issue and I to have a 9600GT OC, same exact card.

Search on google > 9600gt+black+screen

Lots of people having issues with this specific card in all different types of games. Unfortunately I currently do not have a 9600GT to test this with, so I can't really help out much.

If it's not too late, i'd try to get a refund or possibly an exchange for the card.

Edit: What power supply are you using for this?

Nvidia released a new bios to the card manufacturers. I have RMA for the 2nd and waiting for the new card with the updated bios. Seems to be some good reports from people saying there video card shut downs are solved. I'll know more by Monday.
