My two favorite lore topics throughout my time in Norrath have been the various followers of the Marr Twins, and the Unkempt (Warders, Preservers, and Druids)

I was wondering if any of the following players in the Unkempt story lines from EQ LIve and EQOA have made an appearance in any official EQ2 lore:

1. Wegadas

2. Jale Phlintoes

3. Elaryness

4. Levandius

5. Dorandas

6. Yindrius

7. Kuvriathan

8. Udos-Ehai Digowa

9. Etsi Agal-Iha

I know there is lore about them from the two previous time periods, but I was wondering if there are any references to them within EQ2 lore.

We never really found out what they were trying to accomplish living out in the wilds of the Rathe Mountains without any access to a bath for months on end.

I believe that one of the developers once commented that the whole Lycanthropy story involving Wegadas in EQOA was marked as not canon to the EQlive or EQ2 storyline, and I only know of Jale Phlintoes through armor named after him.

Cusashorn wrote:
I only know of Jale Phlintoes through armor named after him.
He is said to be the founder/leader of the unkempt druids in EQL. In South Karana there was a quest which would eventually pop him. You said to the hermit after doing some things for him that you wanted to join the unkempt druids, and Jale would spawn and come running at you. He didn't do anything once there, although he acted like a druid guild master in that you could train your skills at him. One of the druids in Jaggedpine said some things about him as well, he was not very well liked there.Several of the other names on that list are from the same tale that Wegadas is.

The Wegadas story is at least partially part of EQ Live canon in as much as he is refered to in the series of books called the Unkempt Wardens which was located in the Library of Myrist on the Plane of Knowledge.

Udos-Ehai Digowa was the leader of the Jujien (wolfmen), and Etsi Agal-Iha Was the leader of the Gihjna(bearmen)

Elaryness was Wegadas' sole daughter, and she fought with her half-brothers, Levandius and Dorandas for the leadership of the Unkempt Wardens after Wegadas' death.

This is all from the EQ Live books.

Yindrius is listed as being another son of Wegadas who is, (I believe), refered to in Ratonga lore as the progenitor of that race. (I am uncertain if that is official lore though).

Jale Phlintoes (also spelled Jale Phlyntoes) was the leader of the Unkempt Druids, and is alluded to by the Hermit in South Karanas.

Parenthetically, Linaya Sowlin was also involved in the story as the Unkempt Druids sent assassins to kill her in West Karanas. Gareal Woodone in Surefall Glade has put a bounty On Jale Philintoes' head.

Kuvriathan is an NPC in EQOA (I believe), involved in their version of the Unkempt Woods.

Elaryness was Wegadas' sole daughter, and she fought with her half-brothers, Levandius and Dorandas for the leadership of the Unkempt Wardens after Wegadas' death.
This event was also in EQoA.. you could gain faction for either of the brothers at first. Wegadas was there as well. Then after his death the daughter gave the quest to stop the power struggle from each of them which players eventually had to raid each brother's druids/warriors to bring the power back to Wegadas' daughter.

Wegadas was a Takish'Hiz Druid who became the leader of the Unkempt, he taught them to be Druids and Rangers, and of Tunare. When he died Tunare turned him into a Weeping Willow, because of all that he had done, and what he meant to the Unkempt.Elaryness was Wegadas' last child and his only daughter, she was Half-Elf since Wegadas was the only Elf living amongst the Unkempt. After her fathers death, she became the new leader of the Unkempt after defeating others (including her half-brothers); "where those who vied for leadership would hunt one another throughout the whole expanse of the woods".Udos-Ehai Digowa was the leader of the Lujien, the lunar tribe of the Moon in the Unkempt Woods, they were a race of wolf-like beings.Etsi Agal-Iha was the leader of the Gihjna, the solar tribe of the Dawn in the Unkempt Woods, they were a race of ursine beings. These are all from a book in EQ1, The Unkempt Warders. The other names I don't recognize, but I don't play EQoA so... <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY<img mce_tsrc=" />As for mention of them in EQ2? I've killed her many times on different toons.

Wait, you mean the woods on the beach east of Windstalker? Or the Coven Glade where those Coven witches show up?

Because I don't think either actually fits the bill. the actual Unkempt Woods (which never became part of the zones in EQlive), was north of Jaggedpine Forest and Surefall Glade, which would place it above Zek.

I Believe that the Unkempt Woods (as yet not released) lies to the east of the Jaggedpine Forest, across the river in the zone in EQ Live. Indeed there is lore stating that the Potameid Fairies are tasked with preventing any outside access into the Unkempt Woods.

In EQ2 it would lie to the north and east of Zek; sandwiched in between Zek, Everfrost, and The Enchanted Lands.

EQ2 has a few Unkempt *DRUIDS* (there is a camp in the Thundering Steppes--on a ledge near the entrance to Varsoon, and at the Unkempt Druid Ring in Antonica), but nothing as yet of the Unkempt *WARDENS* (who stood in opposition to them).

The Valley of the Dawn, (where the story of Wegadas played out), was said to be a part of the Underfoot deep within the Unkempt Woods:

"Nestled in ancient mystery and untold secrecy within the topmost regions of the Underfoot, beneath the Unkempt Wood, resides a mystic place known as the Valley of the Dawn. This haven of wildling beast-folk was constructed in the unknown past, concealed from the keepers of Norrath's history by the blessings of chance. The Valley of the Dawn was constructed before the time of man, perhaps even before the time of the elves. The bestial-folk known as the Tribes of the Dawn and Moon took haven on the surface of Norrath, comfortable and nestled within the confines of the dank, dark, and strangely beautiful redwood forest now known as the Unkempt Wood. As the solar and lunar tribes established themselves as fierce warriors and guardians of the natural world that they revere as sacred above all else, the tribes built the Valley of the Dawn - a complex and beautiful subterranean citadel dedicated to the laws of the wild that beings protect."

Such being the case, it may still be possible that it survived the Rending and Shattering even if the Unkempt Woods did not.

As far as Lycanthropes in EQ2, the Loping Plains has the Ahroun and the Lyrech clans of were-wolves, as well as a small group from clan Askerville; (apologies to Arthur Conon Doyle). There is also a solitary Blackrunner Warrior, (though more likely he is part of the Ahroun clan)

The Lyrech seem to be lycanthropes as we know them from fantasy and horror stories, becoming beasts with the rising of the moon; whereas the Ahroun and Askervilles remain in wolf form at all times. Upon killing any of the members of these groups the number of werewolf kills increases. The Ahroun and Lyrech are opposed to each other.

There are also were-wolves in the DarkLight Woods called the Moonshriek clan. Like the Ahroun, the Moonshriek clan remain in wolf form at all times.

These are all that I know of, though others may perhaps be able to expand on the list.

As to were-bears or were-rats, there are none that I am aware of.

Here what Vhalen had to say about the Unkempt Woods:

There are numerous islands located in the Shattered Lands. Not all of these islands will be presented in game, but we know they are there. One of these islands happens to contain a chunk of forestland once known as the Unkempt Wood. The Far Seas Trading Company believes that a portion of that woodland is what forms the island that they call The Forbidden Forest. The cliffs of this towering isle are nearly impossible to scale. If one were to begin the long climb along the cliffs they would no doubt encounter one of the many birds of prey that dwell there, many of which are quite large and vicious.
