Recently returned to the game several years after playing it on my brothers system. Put together a new system with following specs:

CPU- AMD/A64 X2 4200+ 2.2Ghz

GPU- EVGA Nvidia 8600GTS

MoBo-Gigabyte GA-MA69VM

Mem- Corsair 2GB (1GB x 2)

PSU- Rosewill 400W

160Gb Hard Drive

Running Windows XP

An old tube monitor at 1028 x 1024...only for a few weeks

I installed the game, played for several hours that night. Had no issues, game looked great on high quality with shadows off pretty much everywhere. Came home from work last night, played for several hours, once again no issue. Log out to watch a little TV, log back in to play a little bit before bed. When I log in, I can see everything fine, nothing seems to freeze, and as soon as I touch a spell, nothing happens. The spell stays black, then my whole hot bar goes black. It was about 15-20 seconds of nothing then I would get booted. Tryed to do a full system scan to make sure I wasn't missing any files. Everything is current. So I figured maybe something was up with the server.

Tryed to get back in today as I have Good Friday off, same problem 12 hours later. Anyone have any ideas? Things were just fine last night, had absolutely no issues.

Ever since the 7am update the other day I cant get back on either. Not sure if this is related or not but I found out that my page file had been set by a game. Im not sure if it was Sins of a Solar Empire or EQ2 however once I set it back to system managed (auto) I was able to play Sins with no lock ups or hitches.

Is it a full crash that causes your PC to reboot or just boot to desktop ?

It just boots to the desktop, and all other programs seemed to be working fine. I downloaded all files from the custom menu on windows update, as well as reloading all my drivers. Seemed to work as I was able to play last night for several hours. Hopefully it was just a driver issue, though I had to reload them several times and actually had to go with an older driver for my gpu.

GPU- EVGA Nvidia 8600GTS has a minimum requirement of 400 watts and your power supply just barely hits that requirement. Minimum 450 Watt for SLI mode system. This could possibly be the problem.

Ah, I just saw that it's not a full crash. It kind of sounds to me like when you initiate a spell on your client it not receiving information from the server and then it boots you to the desktop.

Right click My computer > click manage > Device Manager > click the plus by Network Adapaters > right click your network controller > properties > advanced > disable checksum offload > click ok and try again.

Elenia,That didn't seem to do it. Whenever I'm about to have issues, there always is a hiccup logging in when it says it's loading UI resources. Seems to take longer than it should, I get logged in, then I can't do anything. Another sidenote, I was somehow able to rectify things yesterday and get a good session in. When I shutdown my system after being able to log in, there's always a windows update when I shut down. Whenever I fire things back up, I can't get back in. i don't know if windows is automatically updating drivers or changing some setting, but it's getting awfully frustrating...

I'm having that problem too. I log in my character and can see NPCs and other people, but i can't click on NPCs, use doors, etc. Then after about 15-20 seconds i get booted to character select screen. I was able to play for a few hours the first night I got the game, but now it just won't work for me.

I am also having this problem and have been for months. As it has been said previously, I can play occasionally and it works great for as long as I play. The game seems to work more frequently when I create a new character or play as a lower level character. I have tried all suggestions posted here and none have worked and also contacted the support service. If anyone has figured out a way to fix this, please let me know. I don't think it is a router problem as I can still play occasionally.

Try re adding the game to your security software's exception list. You may want to try and disable the firewall, and antivirus software if they are installed. You may also want to that try running a clean boot, by making sure all unnecessary background programs are disabled. Please follow the directions below on how to accomplish this.To disable background programs. 1. Select the START button.2. Select RUN.3. Type in "msconfig" (without the &quot4. Press OK5. Select the STARTUP tab.6. For Windows 98/ME, uncheck all boxes EXCEPT for SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY. If you use Windows XP, click on the disable all button.7.Hit apply and then OK. Restart the computer when prompted, then try the game again.

I feel as though I have tried everything to solve this issue. I have tried clean reboots, port forwarded my router, and contacted my ISP provider and the knowledge base. Another person who had this problem told me it was my Netgear router and that after he changed routers the problem was fixed. This seems to be the case as I am able to play the game from other wireless routers. I have no virus protection software installed right now or anything that could possibly cause a firewall. My ISP provider (comcast) put my connection to my router on the DMZ which means that the router is providing no firewalls for my computer.

Although I am certain at this point that the problem is with my router, I cannot figure out why I can play the game occasionally and why at other times I am booted to the character selection screen. I understand that this is a strange and difficult issue to resolve. If there are any other people who have solved the problem please let me know as I cannot think of any other options.

Well Comcast showed up bright and early this morning and swapped out my garbage Netgear router/gateway for an older Linksys gateway. I was about ready to just get the modem from them and buy my own router. With the Netgear, I had tried port forwarding, the DMZ route, pretty much everything. First time I tried logging in with the Linksys router, boom, right into the game without a single hiccup. About the only downside, was I had to set up my wireless system myself because the tech seemed to be in a hurry and completely clueless. No sweat off my back, probably saved me the 2 hours of him fumbling around like the last one. If anyone continues to have this problem and they are running the Netgear router, that very well could be the issue.

Seems to be only with one particular kind of Netgear router. I am now using a different one and the game works fine. Strange that certain routers are completely incompatible with the game.
