Sony's tech support message says they'll be closed "Friday, March 18th 2008" says something about their abilities right there. It's the year 2008 and March 18th is a Tuesday NOT a Friday. And they're closed for....? good Friday?

I'm a nooblienoob - I DO NOT know how to configure my router. Sony is not much help. My ISP (Verizon) says they "don't support opening those ports". I've tried every unistall/reinstall - search EQ2 delete empty restart delete cookies cache reinstall Clean Boot defrag thorough scan ini exe - I've scoured these tech support pages - I submitted all the info Sony has asked for - I have ever freekin port open (probably all wrong but that's what us noobs do) ... and nada - what could possibly be so wrong with me and my computer?

LOTR worked perfectly from the start NOT a single problem. WoW worked perfectly until the first patch BUT then the dronelike tech support guy took me by my virtual nooblitard hand and said "click this... click this" and WoW has worked perfectly for the last 3 years(ish). I've even configured 3 routers to maximize on WoW's speed successfully (I think).

I want to play EQII... the more it refuses me the more I want it - IMUSTHAVEITORDIE /wrists waaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh

I threw away the recipt >.< cause I assumed it would work... not that best buy will take back software... Big huge piles of [Removed for Content] - I'm sure they'll delete this thread just like they deleted my other ones (incedently Blizzard almost never deletes threads...)

If anyone knows how to guide an idiot through router configuration pliz help!!! If anyone knows how to fix this error "The options definition file failed to load." OTHER than uninstall/delete/restart/install... I've been doing this for 3 days... the simple stuff is not workin. Anyway... poopoo on meh, I'm just sad. I wanted EQII... it looks like candy. I'm so bored of WoW... 5 lvl 70s... gettin kinda stale. I spose I could go look into that real life thing that I keep hearing about... anyone know where I can download a free trial of that?

Ok. what makes you think that it is a router/port issue? Without knowing more info about your system and set up.. no one can give you any help. Have you tried www.portforward.com? I was always seeing that pop up in the LoTRO forums. This is the first post that I have seen you make here in this forums.. Give as much info as you can in these forums so that people other then SOE tech's may be able to help...By the way, to some people Good Friday is a Holiday. My husband works for NATO and they have it off.... *shrugs*OKie Dokie.. I see some of your other posts in here. I will browse through them now. Be back in a few... hopefully with some help...Is this the problem that you are getting? Not really with KoS though..But the same error and the re downloading of the patch? Re: Repatching large files that already exist on my computer....If so, then Tebos gives some possible solutions.... Hopefully one can work..

I have no idea why you need to modify your router's configuration. You're almost definitely going in the wrong direction. Unless you are blocking *outbound* attempts you should be fine. When you tell your ISP you want to "open ports" they think you want to open inbound ports. You aren't running a server here. Are you using a UI mod or is this a vanilla installation? icc

I have soured http://www.portforward.com/ %20he...ense%20to%20me:

I port forward the ranges - like 32800 to 33000 and then the base host port is??? 32800?? is it host or dynamic? and then the host device is??? my isp? the default choice here is a strange 8 digit code of numbers and letters that I have no idea about, I google it and it's nothing... so I don't know where it comes from

I've tried netstat -n from my dos prompt and the port numbers don't show up - I'm not really sure how to interpret what does come up.

Sony emailed me this and I don't know what it means:

"A TCP connection is initiated from the LaunchPad client port > 1023 to patch.station.sony.com port 7000. A UDP connection is initiated from the LaunchPad client port > 1023 to sdlaunchpad1.station.sony.com and sdlaunchpad2.station.sony.com port range 3016-3021 and 9700-9703."

Should I port forward those ranges? Dynamic or Host? do I put "sdlaunchpad1.station.sony.com" into? where? the host device?

they also emailed me this:

"A TCP connection is initiated from the EverQuest II client port > 1023 to patch.everquest2.com, abepatch.everquest2.com, laepatch.everquest2.com, or amspatch.everquest2.com at port 7010. Some of the above patchers resolve to multiple IP addresses, so if you have a strict outbound firewalling policy, be sure to check for all IP addresses using a DNS lookup tool.EverQuest II Game Client:UDP connections are initiated from the EverQuest II client port >1023 to servers on UDP ports 9100, and UDP ports in the range 32800-33000. Additionally, ICMP messages type 0 (echo reply), 3 (unreachable), 8 (echo request) and 11 (expired) should be permitted bi-directionally between the client PC and the EverQuest II servers.EverQuest II Servers Subnets:There are multiple IP addresses for the Patch and LaunchPad clusters, and they may change as the network demands, so check often using a DNS lookup tool if you provide a specific firewall rule for these services. The EverQuest II server IP addresses are currently in these subnets: 64.37.158.*, 199.108.11.*, 199.108.12.*, 199.108.13.*, 199.108.202.*, 199.108.203.*, 195.33.135.* "

and it is my understanding that they expect me to know what to do with all this information. Verizon says they don't suppor "opening those ports" and that's all they will say, unless I want to pay $80 for their "elite technical support"... which might be worth the education but it comes with no guarauntee.

and YES this is a completely vanilla install I have NO UI mods what so ever. I have uninstalled and/or deleted EVERYTHING containing EQ2 eq2 EQII and eqii deleted cookies and temp internet files and chose "everytime I visit page" and then restarted computer and then reinstalled.

THANK YOU sooooo much for posting in this thread and I do apologize for my rude behavior (if you had a chance to read it before they deleted it) but I want to play (whine!!!!) and I'm used to WoW's foul forums... I shall clean up my act for EQII's better behaved forums /bow I'll read through Re: Repatching large files that already exist on my computer.... again but I have scoured these forums looking for solutions... /cross fingers

I'm just too dumb for this... I downloaded and unzipped and clicked everything on Gold Memory and Memtest and I don't know if they even ran. I seriously cannot spend much more time on this. It's already beyond the crazy person mark.

Ok. No offense, but I don't see where you are stating what your actual problem with the game is.

Your ISP (Verizon) does NOT NEED TO OPEN PORTS. All the information you have is for OPENING PORTS ON YOUR ROUTER. You don't seem to grasp that concept. However, you should not have to open any ports. This game works fine with a router out of the box.

With that said, can you PLEASE tell us the exact issue you are having with the GAME?

Also, you are correct, 9 cds OR 3-4 DVD. You probably have the DVD version

EQ2 does not require any special router settings. It should work fine with most any router right out of the box. If you are running a firewall of any kind you might have to tell the firewall to allow the software to communicate with the internet or ensure it is not blocked. If you are running Vista OS you need to ensure you are following the instructions posted here in the forums about running the game in a Vista environment.

Honestly, while we can all see that you are frustrated, you haven't given any of the readers here any real clues as to what your original (and apparently ongoing) problem is/was. If you are looking for help here, you need to provide the basic information needed to try to understand your problem. So far, all we've seen are rants about CS and some rather confusing posting about router ports. We may agree or disagree about the quality of Sony CS but it is honestly immaterial to trying to get your immediate problem solved. Step back, take a breath, and give a description of your problem that someone here might be able to recognize and help you with.

No Exe? are you by any chance running an Anti virus program or firewall that may interfere with the install?

"

Sounds like you have view file extensions turned off in your operating system. The file that is labeled "everquest2" and has the little blue EQ icon is your everquest2.exe file. If you run that file directly it will launch the game bypassing the Launcher. If you run the EQ2.exe file (the file labeled EQ2 with the blue EQ icon) it will run the game through the launcher. Your desktop icon (assuming you have one) probably points to the EQ2.exe file, as that is the Sony-preferred way to enter the game and is the way you really must enter the game if you do not have current files.

I would not recommend running the everquest2.exe file directly until you actually get the entire game running via the Launcher, as it will more than likely just crash anyway if all the files are not correctly patched first.
