View Full Version : List of Requests to improve the Look & Feel of the Game

The title says it all. Obviously feel free to drop some feedback of your own. These are merely issues/ideas/requests that have come to my mind and many others as well.

Topic 1 - Music

1. Eliminate Zones sharing the same music File:Some perfect examples of this are "Zek, The Orcish Wastes" & "Obilisk of Lost Souls" as they both share the same music file: "obilisk"This isn't game breaking but to users of the WONDEROUS custom music feature...it's a headache. Zek is a warzone, and Obilisk is a void. How can anything we use match up? Please give each zone it's own independant track.Another example is the Arena. Why is a stadium where men, women, monsters, and etc battle each other share the Maj'Dul music? Why such happy music for such a warzone? Please even if it's a blank track...add a file so those with custom music can remedy this.

2. Add an Option to turn off Cues and loop Zone Music:

Currently ever since Desert of Flames EQ II's new zones play music through Cues. They aren't a bad idea...when I approach the boss of an instacne to hear ominous music is great...but the Cues also shut off the BGM. Obviously not everyone wants to listen to zone music endlessly. But some of us hate the silence! I hate the dead silence in Sinking Sands for starters.Anyways...those who use Custom Music are basically [Removed for Content] with Cues. Since we add our own fitting tracks...for the music to just get CUT to silence is rather...dreary and dissappointing. So please allow us to disable Cues, and/or loop the main background zone music.

Topic 2 - Transportation

1. Boats:

Considering the boats are never packed alot of people feel it'd be nice to have a crew on-board the boats. Even if it is a meager 4-man crew. Ships that steer themselves is just...ackward!

2. Horses:What happened to the horses of EQ II Launch? Yes the new horses have better animations but they are ugly! They look starved, weak, and only have hair on one side of their heads! What is it only the armored Horses are decent?

Topic 3 - Appearance

1. Character Creation:Yes it's no secret new models are in the works...but please give ussomethingto chew on...just some rehashes of current hairstyles would do wonders. Currently...Dark Elves, High Elves, Wood Elves, Half Elves, and Humans all suffer from clone-ism! Only about 2 or 3 hairstyles seem to actually be fitting and draw in the player.A quick revamp of Gotees, beards, and mustaches would do wonders too. Nothing too whimsical just something more believable and clean.add in some extar piercings and wham it'll help bid time till the new models.

2. Clothing:

Currently Norrath's clothing stinks worse than steaming hot troll dung. Everything is the same...just a different color. Obviously this can't happen till the new skeletons I bet...but meh...give us some jackets...tank tops, bikini's even speedos (there you go ladies...).

3. Option to show no Appearance Graphic.

This is an easy fix to a big debate. An optino to choose to show no graphic for the selected slot.EX: The player right-clicks the Chest slot in the Appearance Tab and choose from the drop down menu: "Show nothing" and wham that character now appears shirtless.I feel this would ease lots of tension, complaining, and it'd allow Monks & Bruisers to keep their GI's class exclusive AND appease the community as GI's won't be a requiement to be shirtless anymore.

Topic 4 - Housing

1. Dressing Room for Housing Options:Currently...it seems to have been overlooked...we can't use the dressing room to see what a specific floor/ceiling/wall/trim would look like. Consideirng some options cost over 50g...to be able to preview such features would be true mercy!

2. Housing Options for Neriak, Gorowyn, and Kelethin:

These city homes needs the option to change the floor/ceiling/wall/trim desperately!

Topic 5 - Emotes

1. Add Emotes Actions:

Basically when you choose an emote text accomanies it. Which isn't bad but sometimes it's be good not to have the text. For example... /wave wil lbring up text like "Player A waves hello to Player B" when adding a command like /wavemotion or /actionwave would easily just make a character wave. With the macro system we could even chain together some really good actions!

2. Allow all Races to Sit, Sleep, Lay Down, and Kneel

Currently Fae, Arasai, Sarnak, and Frogloks are the only races that kneel. True it's technically them sitting...but still the motion is there...please spread the love ot the rest of us. I'd love to kneel before Lord Nagafen.

Also when we ask to sit yes the new system may allow us to fit in our furniture but to be able to do the actions is good enough for now. Lots of Monks FD on their beds and appear to be sleeping so why not have /sleep & /laydown allow us to simply curl up where we stand?Currently 95% of Norrath get on their knees rather than sit. To be able to toggle our sit motion would be lovely.EX: A player hits "X" or types /sit and their character does the usual squat to their knees. While with a new system...after sitting you can hit let's say..."c" or "z" and you'r character will change posture. 1 press turns em to indian style, another where he/she is leaning back with their legs spread out in a narrow "V" with their arms straight out behind them keeping them up, and another where they have one leg stretched out, the other bent alittle and one arms resting over the bent leg, and etc.

The little things make a big difference!

Anyways thats all I can think up off the top of my head...I hope his gets noticed...

One "little thing" I'd like to see changed, either remove the greeting voice emote you get when you hail NPCs, or give us the option of disabling that without disabling any other voiceover it may have. The greeting voiceover has always been terrible, has many NPCs sounding like morons, and never matches any following voiceover. Every time I hear it, it's like nails on a chalkboard to me.

+1 on everything in the first post of this thread. Especially the Appearance Hide option. I like going sleeveless on my toon. Sure theres a workaround for it using invisible items, but frogs / cats / monks should basically have the option to appear shoeless. Frogs with shoes look dumber than frogs with no shoes. Magicians dont all wear gloves. Most magicians in movies I can think of have bare hands. Imagine Merlin wearing Michael Jackson's white glove. Yeah its dumb. Magicians with gloves in game are just as dumb.

On the NPC hail's voices I think there just needs to be a bit more diversity. Theres all sorts of styles for all the races but I get really tired of hailing NPC's that all have the gruff, I smoked for 48 years sounding HELLO or HAIL. Once in a while fine but not every non speaking NPC should have the exact same voice. Mix it up between races for non race specific hails.

Broker Buy Requests, or Player Work Orders / Offline Commissioning. I wrote a big article on this a while ago. Search the Tradeskill forums for Offline Commissioning.

Dance diversity. Just flat out delete the "I've got a wasp in my armor" dance. Something like /dance macarena or /dance limbo would be nice too.

Better looking stormy skies. Non stormy skies look fine. Stormy skies arent, well, stormy, enough. If its too much for some players systems, call it an "advanced sky" and give an option to disable it. Some lightning, and advanced lighting effects would be greatly appreciated by those of us with strong hardware.

House Dressing Room / Item Preview. Its kind of hard to tell how well an item will fit in your house if you cant see it against the rest of the content in your house until you buy it.

Guild Heraldry on Mannequin Cloaks. Nuff Said

More Dumb Silly stuff. Like /RockPaperScissors. Winner does /cheer and loser does /doh. Or armor with nipples like the Michael Keaton Batman. Yes thats a joke. Rock Paper Scissors isnt.

A little more housing content. For example, I made my house look like a Bar & Grill but want to go with a Marine style. Miniaturized versions of ships to put on display, wall junk like ropes, life preservers, (not sure how to have a style that fits eq for those tho) and a steering wheel (dont know what its really called). How about some curtains? Yea it sounds kind of lame but the only tapestry I know of is the Death's Head Tapestry which seems to not want to stick on the walls around the windows right. Curtains specifically have a number of useful features, such as the illusion of there being a window where there is none, and it can completely set the mood for a scene. We get enough housing pets, and frankly i think its a little overkill to have so many stuffed plushie pets. For ppls houses that have like 300 pets for whatever dumb reason, the first thing I think when I see that many is how awful a room would smell. Back to curtains, it would be one of the few housing items I would ask for animations on. Such as a still animation, slight breeze, and "is there a hurricane outside" animation to give the feel that ones windows were opened, closed, or only opened slightly. The Feel that such a Look would provide is that one is not completely "boxed in" in their houses. Need several styles, some with transparency, some without, some animated, some not. Reason being some places dont have windows where a player would want one put. But putting up curtains and making it feel like there is a window where one really isnt changes the shape of the room in a players mind. I also wouldnt object to having some T7 and T8 houses, more than the 6 room ones. Im fine with the number of vendor slots, just some diversity in the style.

Lights. The lights seem to be kind of buggy, but more like incomplete. Some Items that I expect to display light, such as a lit candelabra, literally dont have any light at all. Others like Death's Head Candle put out more light than I would expect it to. I think anyting that can produce light should produce light at a a players discression, to Turn On, or Turn Off.

User Selected theme music for their houses. Its my house I want to be able to play the music I want to hear in my house! I dont mean like mp3 content, just an option to select what kind of eq2 music should be heard when you or another player enters your house. Not that important tho...

NPC Vendors in players houses. Looks better than a box! From the psychological point of view, people are less likely to steal if there is another character (player or NPC) in your house. To me the idea of going to someones house, pull something out of a box, and leaving money for the stuff I just took seems a little weird. One NPC Vendor for a players house basically like any other NPC vendor to other players, just needs a movable pickup flag. Put your stuff up for sale and set a price. I can also see a limit of one NPC vendor for ALL your stuff you have for sale.

Last bit on housing stuff, Volumes of Books. Currently we have single individual books, and stacks of books. But trying to fill up ones bookshelves in ones house neatly organized creates a lot of extra load on the server. All we really care about is having a row of books, all lined up to make it look like we have several books, but let the servers treat these as one item, not literally 30 books on one shelf. Big advantage here as its a reduction in server load and DB space.

Crafted product models for display only or Ornate. Alchemist Vials (color variation, generic), scribe scrolls (pretty generic also), food stuffs might be a lot but something to show off ones food / drink products, basically anything you cant put on a mannequin to display to show in your house.

I've been trying to arrange my house tonight the housing rant.

I would like to see a new kind of mount in-game. That the Gnomes are working on in a research facility somewhere. Where players can obtain a quest to acquire several parts that would allow for the construction of a, archaic looking, Gnomish, chopper/motorcycle. This quest wound be like lvl. 30s and the chopper/motorcycle would have a greater speed then any other mount that was not also a Gnomish machine or mount that travels from magical influence, but not indefinite...This chopper/motorcycle would need fuel of some sort that was uncommon to allow it to function that was the equivalent of gasoline, or what not. At the same time a sword wielding PC could sheath their sword mounted on the front of the chopper/motorcycle that would emanate light as a head light...Further I would want this new mount to allow fore the setting of a second PC on the back seat programed to either needing to inter into a group at the same time activating follow or what ever. Plus like the horse can kick up, I would want the chopper/motorcycle to be able to do wheelies while in motion...If the developers ever were to, get around to this. I would start a guild of plate armor wearing, sword wielding, Brew drinking, Human, Dwarf, and Halfling traveling motorcycle gang with the title of, The Norrathian Angles....O, plus I to would like to see regular street close in-game for the purpose of Role Playing like thous, I forget what they are called.Shirts that males wear with the V slit at the top of the callor with threading going in and out of the V would be nice. I think if this was to become a add-on then the clothing should have stats at the very least for magies and light armor wearing PCs.But not for heavy armor wearing PCs, but still being able to wear the clothing. These clothings should come in different colors as well....

Coming from Asheron's Call, 1 thing I really loved was the multitude of different armor apeparances. Make some up if you have too! Baggy or loose fitting armor, hooded robes, and just different styles! Call it whatever you want. Not everything has to be chainmail, plate, leather, etc ad nauseum.

there are street clothes in the game. but you are not going to see 'biker' outfits. it's just not part of the genre. Same with motorcycles. might you get some kind of mechanical mount? maybe. but if you really look at it, there are no clockworks save the flying ones that are not based on a living animal. rats, spiders, Trex, humanoid.could they possibly build a 'mount' clockwork that had a 'wolf' or 'cat' look? maybe. but I think the gnomes right now are far more preoccupied with trying to reclaim Ak'anon to worry about it.the closest you would get to a biker outfit for this genre would be gladiator type half plate, more or less. or leather in the 'half plate' style. but your not going to get a deep v neck, frayed edges black shirt with a picture of a dark elf woman on it that says 'showelves' in red under it. you're almost certainly not going to get a motorcycle. For me though I would like to see some halfplate, gladiator styles for men and women as far as armor. and the highelf/darkelf EQ1 'naked' clothes too for that mater.but for me I want to see more colors. I want to see some frigging shiny gold armor. I'm wearing the Darkmetal in appearance becuase of it's shiny chromed look, and would adore seeing that same look in gold. in fact, the only gold armor I have seen is off a contested mob, Dominus Chottal, and it's the Priest King pants. give me that coloring, on a darkmetal look, and I would be a very happy paladin.speaking of paladin armor. next time you guys want to make class type hats, could you please give paladins something that they actually would want to display? I don't think I have EVER seen a paladin displaying thier class hat becuase of how ridiculous it looks. bucket w/ a 2 foot wingspan = bad.

Pirates did NOT wear 'tattered threaded low V neck shirts'. the clothing they wore is the same style as the Pirates of the Caribbean. the movie may be fictious, but the clothing is period specific and correct. so not only did you ask for what is typically considered a 'biker' style clothing (this would be what they wear UNDER the leather jackets) but your asking for motorcyles.motorcycles are not going to be in this game. period. the reason for it is that is doesn't in any way fit into the genre of the game setting, which is high fantasy. in fact there are people that don't like the Clockworks because they are too much tech in thier opinion.and your right to know by law? um, that EULA you agree to when you log on, states that the game content can change at any time for any reason they see fit to do so. it's also on the box, that the gameplay may vary. which means, when you agree to play, you agree to those conditions and terms. which means, they can do anything they want with the game. they don't have to tell you anything they don't want to about the content of the game.

Ok well back on topic, I'd kinda like to see some idle animations that matched the characters voice persona. Such as the Brute Male voice would select knuckle cracking as its idle animation, while someone with a female toon with that annoying high pitched cheery one that just bugs the living snot out of me should like file their nails or some such crap. Although it bugs me its appropriate for the character... And maybe if rumors turn out to be true about a new animation system we can get little fluff like this to bring our characters to life a little more...

I just want a pair of plain black tight pants. Not black pants with boofy legs, not "black" pants with green highlights, not black pants with tan side-panels. Just plain black tight pants. Please?I also want the female formal ensemble to be available in black. Yes, I'm a sad old goth.

Naa, a black version of the formal female ensemble would look hot! Black isnt always goth. A lot of times its considered "royal". Businessmen wear black suits all the time because it looks professional, and well lets face it if you were to see a businessman running around in a white suit, or the shade of blue for the current female ensemble, youd either think they were a [Removed for Content], or a used car salesman. Black Formal Female Ensemble would be like hot. Well except the fact the female toons formal wear requires them to run around barefoot. Of course I guess that isnt far from the truth anyway...

Well, if you can tell from my tiny sig pic, I wear the dress ensemble top with the closest thing to tight black pants I've been able to find, along with a pair of the slouchy-type boots from KP. I'm a bruiser, but I love the "pirate look" of the outfit and it's my favourite one I've put together so far. The biggest annoyance is the brown/tan panels and details on the pants---totally destroys the monochromatic look I'm going for.In fact, it's darned difficult to find *anything* truly black in the game, although the new dresses/outfits from tradeskills they recently added were fantastic.

A lot of the OP & follow up comments are things I would like to see.

One thing in the original post I have to disagree with though is the horses. The new ones look like real horses in their body shapes. Real horses tend to have their manes flip to one side or the other, I don't think I've ever seen a horse that had his mane full on both sides without some human intervention. My beef with the new models is the skins & coloration. While I like my gunmetal grey horse (read "black", it would be nice to have an actual black horse to choose as well. The morgan (which is a breed not a color SOE!) is dull colored. Etc etc.

Retouching the colors & textures on the existing horse models would make them look much better =).

Well, I'm trying to explain that I wrote before on French forums. Soffrina perhaps reports them.First I think girls and boys of all species of this game have any imagination. Why?I didn't know any woodelves girls who don't want to try many hairstyles of the highelves girls. When I talk with many of them they love to be able to braid hairs like woodelves fashion. OK, I don't know if adding a layer to this game in this way is possible right off the bat. Plus I know some one will be allowed to reply back with a "It can't be done" post or "They will never do it" or "You should die fore your idea and burn in Lava Storm fore them"...But I think it would be nice if they developed a expansion called "The Deep Seas Of Norrath". That would allow the players to buy Gillions/Sailing Ships that the players would have to maintain as a crew with a new class of captain or commodore or what ever. There could be several kinds, small and big. As well allowing players to be able to but there guild stuff on them fore the guild type and the single type. Guilds could get special ones and we would need to host the sails and scrub the decks and only a captain could activate the wheel, to steer manually. I'm not going to think about any greater details though. you guys could fill in the blanks....

As a Shadowknight I look at the city merchant's stock and just wonder why I'd even want to buy a set of polished white armor. (Named: Polished Parade something)It's PERFECT for those of Qeynos/Kelethin decent.I'd like Freeport to have some polished/reflective black, dark gunmetal gray, or dark blood red. I would like an item that would change your hairstyle while your wearing it. A hairpin or whatever, would look really cool.As an old Guildwars player i miss paints the most, There you can paint your armour and weapons in a variety of ways. The paint is a drop item and the rarity depends on the colour, you can also mix the colours to make very advanced ones. The alternative would be an NPC the coloured your clothes in the way you want. Would be nice too be able to dye your hair in odd an unnatural colours too.And yes, more pirates hats (right now I'm working for Ho Los hat, It´s actually really nice but hard to get). Also, i would like the option to display rings, earrings and so.

The females look awesome.. reptilian muzzle, graceful body. the males? Eck.2, I would like a mono-colour Froglok skin with a shine/slick appearance. I got another idea. How about horse races where we would race each other on a track of different curving designs after the Developers made are, horses, mounts, any type utilize the sprint command as to go that certain % over are characters speed. . .But that would not be all. There would have to be obstacles like tall walls that we can't jump, but have to zig-zag in and out of at the same time there would be ditches that we would have to jump filled with water or not that if we fell into we would have to ride up a ramp back onto the track. There could also be small hurdles to jump. . .These obstacles are to shack it up a little as higher lvl players would have more power to sprint longer. But it would not help if they to had to zig-zag in and out of obstacles and jump over things. We would be able to bet on these horse races as well.
I think its broadcloth or sackcloth...

On the horses bit, although its not a major concern for me and most ppl are more concerned about a speed, other things like the combat mechanics dont make any sense. Like an assassin on horseback is going to have a totally different play type than the usual stealth and attack from shadows. How do you exactly stealth a horse anyway? Sure Rangers make sense on ranged combat but I just think the game mechanic needs to be different for fighting while on horseback / wargback / rhinoback / dodo birdback / whatever. I dont use a horse much anyway so its not that big if a deal to see different mechanics. Mounts are more of a hinderance due to lack of speed and decreased movements without a proportional offset to balance it. For example more attack power on a mount = less agility (the way we currently move on mountback) but increased defense.

There are some really good suggestions here and a few that I just rolled my eyes at, but the only one that I have seen that addresses a society feel where the boats and putting people on the boats.

We need some entertainement, some activity to make this world more alive, too feel apart of it.

How about a traveling music group? I mean we have an empty open air thearte in FP that is never used. IF you pay and watch....heck..throw out a buff of some sort that last with your toon for an hour. Ever have that song stuck in your head you just cannot get rid of?

Another is an acrobatic troop or circus, or the street performer that travels around? Same idea here as the music troop. I have seent he fire breather in Maj and thought, Wow that is so cool! There is just not enough of this type of content in the game.

Or if you happen to be in Archer woods and there is a hunting group from Q, hunting the stages?

I could go on and on with this, but my main point is everything is soooo static and almost lifeless. I want a breathing living world to adventure in, where a guard may detain me becuase I look suspisous and have to pay him off to be released.

Anyhoo, my 2c worth

OK. I'm going to open a old wound, but with a more sterile scalpel. On the issue of sitting down on the benches & chairs through out Norrath. If replacing the all the benches & chairs in Norrath is a time consumer & it would be...Instead of designing new mesh with activators that would trigger the animation to sit down. Maybe the Developers could instead design a new Animated Emote of are characters in a sitting position...With their butts crouched down in that sitting position with the ability fore use to move are characters in place with are now crouching characters over the benches & chairs flush with the seat to are back sides as if we were sitting in the same way as if the benches & chairs had activators & animation. . . .

Hairstyles - yes - option everyone - even erudites
Mounts- that tiger in beta was amazing, elephants would be great, hovering griffons sort of how the dracurion illusion with wings hovers, and crystal golems would be great to travel on like the ones outside of new tunaria.

Clothes - it is very difficult to find things especially if you are only a cloth armor character. I really think they should allow everyone to use anything in the appearance slot. Or at least allow cloth users to wear leather and light armor for the appearance slot. It just seems like alot of restrictions that are unnecessary.

Items- there needs to be more items and loot. It so ridiculous to farm the same instances 20 - 30 times for the same thing everyone else has. That is not fun, it gets tiring and monotonous. If there were many different types of loot versus, for example the same preator guard and arm guard of the farseer then not everyone would be farming the same instance 10000 times to get the only 2 best items for mages. There should be more than just those two for people that do not raid 4 times a week.

And I agree with the original poster on all points.

When no one was racing at all, then auto NPC racers would take the place of the real players. . . .

OMG, the kid just invented arcade games No thanks. If I want to play one of those, there are many on the market. I'd rather the devs spent more time on fixing some of the bugs in the existing graphics. I'd like some nice new clothing. I'd like to sit in a chair, place vases on the rim of the attic dirt patch .....

Because I know there is a Tiger mount we can get from booster packs. So if it's true that they have a Tiger mount fore EQ2 then that would be nice. I want one that has green hair with orange strips so i can run around quoting " Iii haaave the powerrrrr!". . . .
