Newbie Wizard has some questions

Alrighty, I'm new to the game, and have been trying out many classes.  I've made a wizard, and have gotten my first couple AA's.  Where should I be putting them first?  down the heat or cold line?  Is the pet in the other tree worth it in the beginning?  Thanks in advance ^_^

I would take the pet and then start down the sorcerer wisdom line 4 pointing till I got to brainstorm then 8 pointing it, then I would do agility and then strength.Some would choose Sta for survivability but not this Wiz.Regardless IMO the Sorcerer AA generally give more bang for the point than does the Wizard AA
