Any chance that EQ2 might get some ported versions to be played on the PS3? Personally I am very happy for the union, and optimistic about being able to play SOE games on my PS3.

There was a recent discussion on this very subject. Basically there hasn't been a whisper from SoE, just a player or two who, much like yourself, was curious about the prospect. I won't bore you with my own pro's and con's but the folks in this thread pretty much hashed them out. The summary is: maybe future titles but don't hold your breath for a revamp of EQ2.

What is more likly(though IMO still not that likly) would be for the next Norath Based MMO(refured to by most as EQ3 though that wont be it's name) to launch as a cross platform or PS3 exclusive title. Whats an almost certainty is that most if not all new MMOs from SoE will be Crossplatform(PS3/PC) or PS3 Exclusive. The reason why goes beyond the fact that SoE now answers to SCEI(the parent of SCEA). It mainly goes to the fact that consols just have many more players, wich makes it far more profitable to make games available on a consol.

Well i'm kinda worried about SCEA comming together with SoE. When I was at GDC the SCEA booth wasn't very kind to me. Got a great reception at the SoE booth though and hopefully that kindness will transfer to SCEA.

This is just a guess, but I feel like SCEA is basically failing and it was merged with SoE because it's not. Not only that but because microsoft is primarily a computer company and the Xbox is the primary competitor for ps3 it makes sense to give the ps3 the same benefits I expect microsoft and the Xbox share.

New games (The Agency, Free Realms, DC comics game) are going to be made cross platform. To be able to do this more effectively, they need the divisions to work together under the same head. It makes sense, and while I don't think putting EQ2 on the PS3 would be worth it at this point, I'd bet money that we will eventually see a Norrathian based game in the future utilizing both PC and PS.

I thought that this was a really good interview with Smedley on the topic. Gives a lot of info as to the intention of this move.
