I have zero animated gif skills, and a friend made mojobaby work, so I knew I could get animation the cheap way through their tool. I'm not happy with the size, and will be doing another one and reducing the size more, but I checked existing player sigs when I made the size settings to be sure that I didn't use more space than others. <p>Yes, my figures are up to date.  <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />  As you can see, when you view one of Grimwell's posts, his sig gets chopped off on the right side -- just like anyone else whose sig image is too big to fit in the 500x165 allowed space.  <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p><p>Once upon a time, there was a "highly recommended" file size maximum of 150KB for animated GIF images that was posted on the old forums; Sapphire included it at the top of one of her posts <a href="http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/posts/preList.m?topic_id=346689&post_id=3932972" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">here</a>.</p><p>While it's not a hard-and-fast rule, it's mostly just about being courteous to those on slower connections and keeping your file sizes as small as possible, since there's really no way for the PTB to enforce a max file size.  (The only practical way to do that would be to only allow sigs that have been uploaded to an SOE server via the forum software and restrict the size of the uploaded file.)</p>
