With the prices of ram low on ddr ram I've been pondering adding another gig to 2gig to my system, but I'm not sure if thats a decent tradeoff to just buying a new proc mobo and ddr2 ram. When I built it nearly 2 years ago 2gig was fine but I keep finding eq taking up a bit over a gig of ram while running. My current system is this

asus a8n-sli prem mobo, 2 gig corsair xms xtwin ddr 400 ram, amd Opteron 185 processor default clock speed, 8800GT 512 ram(about a month old), WD 7200 rpm 300gig harddrive.

didn't get much of a boost with the 8800gt in eq2 over my old 7950gt but did help my other games and I wanted a dx10 card for development reasons.

If build a new one, besides having to save up for a bit, I'd switch back to an intel proc and be able to use ddr2 ram.

Save your money. Putting over 2 gigs of RAM into a computer running a 32 bit OS is a waste of money. While the OS can see up to nearly 4 GB, you won't see much if any of it as usable memory. The way Windows works, almost everything over 2GB is reserved memory space, used for the memory on your video card, sound card and other uses. Plus, once you go over 2 GB, EQ2 starts having issues. So do yourself a favor and save for an upgraded system. This supposes that you're running a 32 bit OS of course.

no its 64 been running vista 64bit since it came out, just wasn't sure i'd see much improvement game wise with just more ram alone.
