View Full Version : PvP vs Brig

Can I kill one solo? I admit freely that I am not the best Ranger or have the most skill. Maybe I am way near the bottom of the list. But I find any Brig blue and higher can take me out in no time. Green, I at least last a few seconds. I just cannot keep them off of me, even when using fettering poisons and "trying" to snare them at max distance.

Ideas? Or is it hopeless?

BTW, I also hate Manashield a lot, but have at least learned to snare and run til the timer runs out, return and kill. Hoping someone has such advice to deal with a Brig...

Brigs are tough. If you get the jump on them, you should be fine. If they get the jump on you ... gotta have those freedom potions ready to get out of their initial assualt, then stun, root, run, snare, snare, run, root, snare, run .... yeah. (Doing damage in between all of those, of course.) Make sure you've looked up the way people spec Rangers for PvP - upgraded snares and root ftw - use your fettering poison, or in some cases stun poison and get used to kiting now. =) Don't forget to deaggro so they drop your target (though a good player will be back on you quickly), going invis/stealth also breaks their target but takes longer to cast.

You are doing the right thing with manashield. 30 seconds with a 90 second recast. Just have to get away until it times out, then go back in and squish. Root, snare, run off, come back when the cake is ready to take out of the over, ding.

It's possible. The Nightshade(INT) line helps more for them. The AGI line's knock back will move back enough to fire off a shot or tweo

Getting the Jump on em is key. Often hard to do though, since they have see stealth when they are stealthed, which is 90% of the time.

For the most part, I leave em be. Or if you have the runspeed, run em til they run OOP, then have at em as they run to you.

Thanks for the advice. Sounds like I am doing the right things, just not well (or well enough). I am speced NIghtshade and Archer, so i have the knockback and the poison crits. Still working on my snare line though, so that should help. Do Brigs have an AA that allows them to sprint to you and crit (somewhat like a Monk)? I swear I start a snare shot from range and they are on me often before I get it off, killing the idea of getting the first shot in and kiting.

I'll keep working at it, but letting them be may be my final move. Thanks again.

I'm an average ranger but here is my advice. I too had this problem with brigs, assassins, and bruisers. Basically any melee class would get to me and within a few seconds I'm dead. After talking to a ranger in my guild he recommended the STA AA line. The final ability in this line gives you a 12 second immunity to melee attacks, you can't attack either but hey nothings perfect. So if they somehow get up close to you, which seems suprisingly easy if you ask me, you just click this ability and for 12 seconds they are wasting all of their CA's and you aren't taking dmg. Now ofcourse the good players will only go through a few CA's before they realize you are immune but right when the spell ends just Point Blank shot, root, snare, hawk, deaggro, and run to gain distance. Also if you have the PvP belt that gives about 22 seconds of melee immunity if you want/need it. (12 sec. for the AA ability and 10 sec. from the pvp belt)

So thats just my advice and good luck to you!

Hey Privan, this is "Oops".

Which line did you drop to go Sta? I am Int and Agi now. Maybe I'll just get the belt of gateways instead. good idea though. thanks.

Hey Oops! How's life on Naggy treating you?

I got rid of my Int line to go down sta line. Sure the extra poison stuff was good for the Int line but those extra dmg ticks from the poisons weren't doing anything for me when I was dead in three seconds anyway so.....now I'm down Agi and Sta. I'm using the extra poison stuff from the ranger aa tree to try and offset it a little bit.

Cheap/point-blank shot is not there to let you get another shot off, imo. It's there to let you run away far enough to effectively kite them.

My Ranger is only 38 so I don't have leg shot or fettering poisons yet...I've had zero troubles with brigands so far. I get behind them, and open with hidden shot, which usually gets their, "[Removed for Content]-o'meter" ticking, then immediately follow up with sniper shot. I've finished every single one of them from there. If I can't open with that volley, I don't engage. If they attack me first, I don't engage. I will however, depending on the skill of the player (which, for scouts, I judge more by, "do they have totems up?" as opposed to title) I may sneak around and try to engage them on my terms. So my $.02 is, fight brigands on your terms. Follow them, get them when they engage a mob. Get them when you're in a tough to reach spot. Get them when there's a rough mob between you and them. Etc.I have more troubles with Bruisers. Their darn avoidance drives me nuts. I use all of the above tactics, and they still manage to get to me. Plus, their feign death clears the mob, and then they can focus on me. I [Removed for Content]' hate Bruisers. I usually don't engage them unless I'm highly confident in the outcome.

Did you mean triple shot or something else maybe?Goran, Unrest

If they're snared, they don't close the gap as quickly.Against other classes, I'll save sniper in case they run. But in my experience, brigs are confident in themselves and usually engage.

Are you a lvl 58 Ranger? I think the confusion is Sniper Shot is a lvl 58 spell, and there's nothing "sniper" at earlier levels.

At level 38 there really was nothing I couldn't bring down fairly easily. That was many nerfs ago, and things seem to change progressively as I've leveled the ranger. Still love the class, but it is not unbeatable like it was in T2-T5, when the toons I was hitting at range had much less HPs and resists than they do now. Frankly I like the challenge, which is a nice way of saying what I think about Brigands atm.

Went ahead and picked up the Belt of Gateways. Can't bring myself to drop my Int line, as I love watching those caustic poison crit procs go off. We'll see how it goes...

BTW, are Swashy's as nasty to Freeps as Brigands are to Qs? Geez.
