Is there a command to hide NPC names or player names or both? I would like to be able to hit a key when in crowded areas to stop showing all the names instead of going into the menus. Also, is there some way to configure a file to be read that I can reload the graphics options with? In other words I would like to be able to switch between one configuration of graphics settings and another on the fly more or less. This is useful because generally out in the field I can have the options very high while one I get back to a town or otherwise populated area I need to turn things like shadows and specular(maybe other stuff too) off to keep my FPS up, and I'm not gonna go to the menus every time obviously. Thanks!

Yes, you can hide NPC and PC names by going to:Options (Alt-O)  ->  User Interface  ->  Name and Chat BubbleYou'll see options for:Show guild namesShow name for selfShow name for other playersShow name for NPCsYou can also save these configuration settings by clicking the Save button at the bottom of the options screen.  Give it a friendly name, and you can load the settings at a later time.

Thing I hate about going into the menu is that no matter what I change it *always* changes all of my keys back to the default....and that makes me sooooooo annoyed. <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/2e207fad049d4d292f60607f80f05768.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" width="15" height="15" />

<p>I wish there was a seperate option for NPCs and Player Pets.  </p><p>I like setting NPC names to always show, but if I enable that option then it also shows the names for all pets as well.  And when you're in a raid and there are 16 swarm pets on the epic mob it just distracts from the information I am interested in.</p><p>I understand that from a mechanics point of view, it makes sense to distinguish the option as Self, Player Characters (PC), and Non-Player Characters (NPC).  But from a player's perspective, what I'm really interested in is split more into the following catagories:</p><p>SelfMy PetsGroupGroup PetsRaidRaid PetsNPC (not including player pets)</p><p>I don't think of a group mate's pet in the same way that I think of the NPC that we are killing.  </p>

Can you give me more information on this problem?  Do your keys reset when you save/load your settings or just from the simple fact of opening the options menu?  Does it do it when you hit Cancel or Apply?Does it happen on every character? If you can give me a few steps to repro this behavior I'll try to get it fixed.

For me it was every time I used alt-o to get into options.  Very irritating as I have open all bags on alt-i.  One slight miss on the keys and every custom key setting was gone.  Once you were in it didn't matter how you got out they were already gone.  This meant that every time I went into the options window I had to reset all the custom settings and resave.  At that point everything saved and worked fine - until the next time I opened the window.I worked round it by building up my own keymap file from the default and setting my configs to use that.

What I would love is to able to adjust the distance that names show above heads.  From zero to about 10x further than it does now.

(I only tried using Alt+O)After the commands are initially reset, if I went and re-bound anything using the Options menu, it would sometimes persist for a couple opennings of the Options menu, but the problem would resume next time I /camp'd (even if I was camping to the same char, ie "/camp Mynervia" while on Mynervia).<b>Does it happen on every character?</b>Yes<b>Workaround</b>When it resets the keybinds, it resets them to the keymap of your current layout.  The "simple" method is toa) Patch EQ2b) Copy a keymap with the desired binds over the keymap of your layoutc) Run EQ2.That one gets annoying, since patching overwrites the desired keymap each time.  The fuller workaround is to create a custom Layout, associated with a keymap that has your desired binds as defaults.  There's a great thread on how to do that over in the support forums, <a rel="nofollow" href="http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/posts/list.m?start=0&topic_id=40833񑜖" target="_blank">"Re: Keyboard settings keep clearing on me" by Fringe</a>The author has you go a little excessively on the cautious side (rebooting the machine <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY<img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />" />), but it's a nice walkthrough if you're totally unfamiliar with EQ2's Layout and Keyboards files. With either workaround, binds you make in-game still aren't saved.  You have to update the keymap file with any new binds you want to "save".Hopefully that workaround will shed some light on the problem for the devs trying to fix it, too <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY<img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />" />

<cite>Rothgar wrote:</cite><blockquote>If you can give me a few steps to repro this behavior I'll try to get it fixed.</blockquote>Just realized I hadn't included repro steps.  For me, the reliable repro steps are pretty simple:1) Enter into EQ2.2) Open the options menu, change a keybinding to a new, non-default value and Accept the change (as an example, in EQ-Mode, unbind MiddleMouse from activating Autorun)3) Camp out, and exit EQ2.4) Enter into EQ25) Empirically confirm that the bind is still changed (ie, click middlemouse and see if you start to autorun - you shouldn't)6) Open options window, Alt+O (don't need to do any navigation within the options window, just open it)7) Empirically confirm that the bind has been reset (ie, click middlemouse and see if you start to autorun - when the bug is present, you will autorun now)Those steps will reliably reproduce the problem for me (whether using a normal Layout or one of the above workarounds).[If you fail step 5, then you need to retry a couple times until you get lucky and the binds stick in the first place]
