I just got level 33, and have a master copy of beguile! For a first character that makes me happy.

Is it worth hunting down the tier 4 caster pets or using whatever is handy and a yellow con and use the master 2. will that make up the dps of the caster pet?

I haven't done any parsing to see.

That's far too vague of a question for anyone to answer.

It depends on the zone, how much time you have, and any number of other factors too. You have to decide that for yourself as each situation presents itself.

What's too vague?

I am 34 and hunting in EL or Zek. From the master list of good caster pets EL seems to have some options.

The question is, would it be worth the time to hunt down one of the caster pets in EL or Zek(Zek has far fewer on the list) to grind with over a few hours, or just grab a local yellow con whatever and use sib master 2.

In general would it make up the difference? Ala at 34 is it worth it worth getting a good caster pet or a waste of time to hunt for one?

If you're only doing "solo" content, then I'd say just grab the highest level yellow-con you can find, and go at it. As a rule of thumb, at least for melee pets, level is more important than any other factor. The only time I get picky about which pet I choose is if I'm going to try taking heroic groups (while solo), or if I think I'm about to get into a pvp fight. Of course, in some zones, there are some pets that I prefer over others. Steamfont has some lovely spiders that usually start a fight with a knockdown. That generates a lot of agro upfront, which lets me do damage faster.

You could always pick up one of the yellow A_Random_Mob_01 and use him as a pet to burn through to where the good caster pets are, and then suicide yours to grab the good one?

It really is a bit vague. It depends on what your goal is, and how much time you have. I'd just grab the best pet that is nearby, and use it. But if you're after Heroic mobs, melee pets fail quickly. Depending on the caster, some really aren't worth the effort of charming at all.

Bottom line is that every coercer that posts here may give different info. Best bet is to experiment for yourself, and see what you like.

when I've found a great pet somewhere, if I go back in that zone, i'll hunt for this pet. Maybe it's longuer at first, but when you have it, you can slack o kill a lot faster . For questing it's great.

*tosses 2cp into the pot*

If you're just trying to get from point A to point B alive... grab the nearest mean looking yellow con and go at it. Our pets are disposable. If the one you grabbed croaks, grab the one that did him in. Eventually you'll get one that survives well. Just make sure your mezz isn't low quality for when you need it.

If you're planning to stay in the zone for a while grinding, then being more selective helps. I say this based on my experience in SS. With random pets my progress was sporadic. Once I found a good mob burner my life got a lot easier and I will consistently hunt for my favorite pet in that zone.

Different situations call for different tactics (As WasFycksir illustrated it rather thoroughly). Knowing your situation and goals will help you tailor your pet selection and tactics to best accomplish your goal.

Personally I prefer to grab in EL bruisers if I can find em... the Lamias on the coast are a hoot. Just look for one with the little yin-yang buff icon up. They can be fickle but they make things dead.

I'd always go for a caster pet over just about anything. Easy ones to get in Zek include the warpriests right near the entrance, bracken sprites up by the druid ring, or brittle tenders a bit further in.
