Get your Stamina up and agility. Adorn when you can afford to. Adept III is a must, Master I is preferred, Adept I should be transmuted. Mastercrafted gear, TD jewelry for Tier 2. Get the jump on them before they get you, scouts can tear you up before you even get to mez them if you don't see them coming. Get healing potions. Even after getting Master I Sybillant, I am still having some difficulty.

Here's my personal advice as a PvP Coercer levelling up in the last few months 1-80.

1) Choose Rallos Zek as a diety .. in the end you'll have 5 useless blessings and 4 useless miracles .. and one Evac!

2) For levelling up you want to spend your AA's on AGI and STR and enhancing the reactives (the rightmost coercer tree)

3) PvP is so much worse than you think it will be levelling up. I got to 80 with just under 400 deaths and just under 100 kills. However, now I'm just over 400 deaths and now have 500 kills .. so it does turn around (in group PvP)

4) I hate to say it, but to win fights as a sub-80 solo Coercer, you need luck. Actually, it's more than luck .. you need for your opponent to be stupid. When you get attacked you'll try to mez .. once your opponent is mezzed you'll load him up with reactives and pray that your health lasts longer than his. But here's where it gets sad ... a smart player will just run away at this point - a dumb player will attack anyway (note: Rangers are the exception .. see below). You can't do enough damage to kill a player unless they trigger your reactives .. so you can mez them .. root them .. dot them .. but eventually they'll get away if they want to.

5) Rangers .. sorry to say this, but you will never beat a ranger 1v1. In fact, at level 40 .. a level 10 ranger has a decent chance against you (ok .. not really .. but holy moly that class owns coercers).

6) You'll hear a lot of stuff here about raids not needing coercers, but in PvP it's not true. You see, our raids can't have illusionists, so we're still needed (yay). Then again, most PvP factioned guilds aren't very good at raiding. If you want to raid, you'll need to exile .. and then there will be illusionists.

7) You've read it before, but now read it again: Master I of a low level Charm is better than Adept III of a high level Charm.

Your DPS will always be horrible .. no matter how hard you try. Just realize that in a group/raid what you add to the group is NOT your DPS. If they don't understand that they are morons.

9) In group PvP generally everyone will be assisting someone in the group .. but not you. Your job is to try to figure out who is healing the opponent's group and mez/stun/drain/fear/charm them. Remember, if you are mezzed you can still mez. In fact, it's just about the ONLY thing you can do.

10) Fun tactic that sometimes works (sometimes doesn't) at 55+ (I think). Charm a mob that can pretty much kill you in 1-2 shots. In PvP, root your oppoonent and put the pet on them. The pet won't do nearly the damage that it would normally do, but that's not what you care about. If your opponent actually attacks the pet, cancel your charm and quickly cast Amnesia (level 55 spell) on the mob. The mob will still hate you .. but the second the other guy hits it it will hate him more. Hilarity ensues!

Ok .. that's all I can think of right now. But really .. it was so much worse than I thought it would be levelling up on a PvP server .. I just can't recommend it .. especially with PvP Writs now, which have brought many PvPers back to the game (at least on Nagafen).

Good luck,

CF
