A friend and I just moved over to EQ2 from Wow playing a Erudite warlock and a Human shadowknight. Which crafting professions do you all recommend for us? We will be leveling together.

There are various crafts that can help you as you level, although some will require that they be a higher level in crafting than you are in adventuring.

Provisioner - food (health regen) and drink (power regen), needs to be somewhat higher than you in order to get the best drink for the tier. If you don't make it, buy your food and especially drink from players, not NPC merchants.

Weaponsmith (both), armorer (SK) and tailor (warlock, and bags for both) - again, need to be about 1 tier ahead of your adventurer to be useful, and the 1st 2 are a pain to raise and make any money from. Quests, drops and purchases from players can fill this need easier, imo.

Alchemist (SK) and sage (warlock) - make your spells and CA's. Need to keep pace with your adventure level, more or less. Alchemist is good for other stuff like potions, and both can make money from spells for sale. These 2 would be my recommendation.

Other crafts can make other stuff you would use, but they are not as directly linked to your adventurers.

I have all the crafters in game... the best advice that I can tell you is to try them all and select which you like better. It is a LONG way to leveling a character that you do not enjoy at all.... I can tell you that most I loved leveling up... and there are a few that just are not that fun for me yet, but I Have 7 that are t7 and up, so I only need the last 2.... lolYou can take a peek at the Tradeskills for and especially the FAQ and Guide LinksIf you enjoy your craft, you will make enough money to buy what ever it is that you need. You can also take a peek at Artisan Classes and Subclasses to get an idea of what each craft makes....

Thank you both for your advice. Of the 7, which 2 did you enjoy the most that would be doable financially for new players? I know in Wow there are certain professions that are great for alts, but don't make much sense for primary characters because of the expense.

My least favorite are the weaponsmith and armorer... hehe. They are a long grind as they do not gain many recipes every level. The simplest would be the sage and the alchemist as they get MANY recipes every level. My favorite though was the Carpenter to be honest. I enjoy the housing aspect of the game and the carpentry makes the furniture, sales displays and the strongboxes. I also enjoyed the tailor who makes the bags (of all sorts) and light and leather armor. I began her when they fluff clothing came into the game. I guess that you can say that I am a fluff type of person... lolIf you do your own harvesting, any crafter is doable. The more raws that you harvest,m the longer it will take you to level, but the cheaper it will be. I can tell you that if you buy your raws on the market, the armorer and weaponsmith will be the more costly. The ore can give loam and clusters so the clusters are more hard to get a hold of if you need a LOT of themI still go with do the crafts that you enjoy. There is nothing saying that you HAVE to craft either. You can just harvest as you adventure and sell the harvests on the broker *shrugs*There is a starter crafting quest that has you make something of every craft... it gives an idea of what each of them needs.

I am a noob myself, but here is a trick that seems to work for me to up your cash in the early game. Once you get the level 9 or 10 crafting book (dont know its official name) you will get a recipe for a Rawhide Leather Backpack. These are the basic starting packs (6 slot) and the components to create them are seemingly everywhere (or very cheap on the broker) and all new players will buy them. The profit margin is just huge when compared to everything else ive seen (low tier) and they literally fly off the broker if you price them right (just dont compete against ME, lol)I took tailor as a tradeskill but I wish I would have taken carpenter (now that ive seen how amazing the houses can be and knowing that with carpenter you can create some fantastic furniture.) Other than that i dont know much, just thought i would share that tip

Some people say that crafts with expendables make some money... as in Alchemists make Potions/poisons, Woodworkers make arrows/ammo, Provisioners make food/drinks. Basically the items that you need to continue buying as they are used up. These can make money... But if you hate making it, then the money is not worth it... lolIt is true that Bags and Boxes will always sell. When I was leveling my tailor and carpenter up, I was quite happy when I would get to the level of bags and boxes. I would GRIND them out for a few levels and they would sell decently. This was all before the great Crafting writs came in though. The crafting writs now are GREAT! Starting at level 20 you can do them. They give you all the coin that you spend on the fuel plus some extra coin on top of the fuel. The writs will also give you faction with the crafting society as well as Personal and guild status. When you turn in your completed writ, you gain extra Crafting XP as well. As you level, this amount of coin and status go up accordingly.

Really? Thanx, I will have to quickly grind to 20. I thought the writs just gave you a tiny bit of SP (apparently I fell victim to some misinformation)...You just opened up a whole new aspect of the game for me.I will be checking out the writs tonite

It wont make you rich..... especially if you buy the raws from the broker... However, doing thw writs is SO much better then griding out the level to me. My level 70 crafters get very little XP from a simple combine and then I would need to GRIND out lots of them. then have a lot of things to try to sell that are probably flooding the market (so will never sell for the price it cost to make). The writs give me about 10% per writ.... %-6% of that is from the combines of the 6 items needed and about 5% from the turn in. I dont have to flood the overflooded market any more The work orders give the same, but it will be less rewards as they are easier to do then the rush orders. Keep in min that the rush orders are timed, so have everything on hand and know how to you use crafting skills/buffs.
