<p>I just reinstalled EQ2 after a complete harddrive wipe due to vid card issues (Dual Nvidia 8800 GTXs). I am having the exact same issue as others have posted with the game loading, patching, and the red "Play" button activating and all my characters are listed on the right side, but under the red "Play" button where my character name(s) should be, it says.."Character Select Unavailable" and this "Fatal Error" message pops up in a box:</p><p> "Everquest II has detected an unrecoverable error and must shutdown.</p><p><verify></p><p>E:testeq2frameworkcoredevicessrcDirectX9RenderDevi ce.cpp</p><p>(1019):</p><p>DirectX Error. (D3DERR_NOT AVAILABLE)"</p><p>And then the game launcher shuts down.  I have downloaded Direct X 9 from the Microsoft website, and I still get the following error message.  Please please help.  I went to my Sony/EQ2 folder to delete some of the files suggested by the moderator in another post with the same issue, but I had none of those files in my EQ2 folder.  I have no files in the EQ2 folder with either my server name or my characters names.  That may be the reason I keep getting the message Character Select Unavailable, because my EQ2 folder has NO files containing any of my characters' names.</p><p> I have no idea what to do to fix this problem so I can play the game.  Please please please help quickly. Thanks!!</p>

All that Character Select Unavailable means is that you have NOT logged into a character on THAT computer yet.. that's it. That is not your error..  Your error has something to do with the message you were given, likely due to video card or other hardware, but nothing to do with your characters.Let's begin by checking your system specs. Please Click on START, RUN, and in the blank field type DXDIAG and click OK.  That will bring up your Direct X Diagnostic Tool.  Please respond with the following information listed on the SYSTEM TAB:1. Operating System2. Processor3. Memory4. Page file5. DirectX VersionPlease click on the Display Tab. Please respond with the following Information listed on the DISPLAY TAB:Device:1. Name2. Approx. Total MemoryDrivers:3. Version (i.e.  Version: X.XX.XX.XXXX.)Direct X Features:4. Are all features enabled? If not, which ones are not enabled?
