View Full Version : Still having issues with 9600GT OC Video Card

My 9600GT OC still seems to randomly shut down when playing EQ2 then locks up the computer that forces a reboot.

I have tried all settings from very high performance to extreme. I then thought my Asus P5LD2 MOBO, 2gig ram and Pentium D 3ghz could be the issue. So I bought a new system to up grade from the old Pentium D.

I now have a XFX 680i LT mobo, 2gig PC6400 ram and Core2 Quad Q6600 2.4ghz processor.

Again same problems so I know it isn't my system at all. I also out of frustration took back my BFG 9600GT OC and got another one. Nope that didn't solve any problems either same issues. So I am about ready to throw this video card out the window even though I know there can't be anything wrong with it. I have no put my slow crappy evga 7600gs which I had been running before the graphic card upgrade. This card never crashes ever.

It is about time that new video cards from the last 3 years start to get supported by this game. People are not going to put old video cards in their new systems. These new video cards are need to play any new game that is out on the market.

So SOE please work with Nvidia to fix these issues. Tech support please put a 9600GT OC into one of your systems so you can troubleshoot the problem. It is the only way you can acurrately trouble shoot the issue. Is it EQ2 inability to support the new cards or is there indeed a driver problem. Or could it be, the GPU in the 9600GT OC are just bad.

One last thing. This 9600GT OC never shuts done on Crysis well the demo. My system has been benched mark by 3DMark06 with a score of 11400. The 7600GS bench marks at miserable 2250.

Please help me.. Please. I would sure hate to cancel a game I really like to play and have to switch video cards in and out of my system.

If you need my logs files as what the sticky says I'll try to post them but they are HUGE.

I was really hoping to get some kind of answer to my question.

I do applogize for some rough words but I was trying to get my frustration across. Because I am beyond frustrated.

There has been talk about over current protection shut downs on this chipset. Yet no offical word from Nvidia that I can find or from the manufacturer of the card.

The only solution that the Card Manufacturer has suggested to me was to start stepping down my Windows Hardware Acceleration. I'll see if that works.

A friend of mine had a similar issue with the Nvidia 6800 series. It seems after a certain patch he started to have issues with his card crashing. Only way he fixed it was to back down his Windows Hardware Acceleration. Any feedback from SoE technical Support would be most Appreciative.

I have the very same issue but I am running a 8800 GT 512ramIt works perfectly on very high settings with CoD4 and Crysis no problem and I am able to play them for hours.I can only play EQ2 on balance - with out the crashing or so that I know.Very high and up will randomly crash me. Its not over heating issues since Ive check and my card is 45c idle and 55-60c when running any game. My CPU its self never goes above 30c.So Its everquest2 plan and simple. As soon as SoE accepts this and fixes the issues with the nvidia cards the better.

EDIT-It still freezes my computer on balance - so its not the card - its either EQ2, Vista, Vista and 8800 GT, or all xD

It is EQ2 or the drivers that are not compatible with each other. Maybe the hardware is not compatible with EQ2.

However everything is falling on deaf ears. I am waiting to see a post from Tech support saying "We don't support your Graphic Card. Good Luck." Of course all the offical graphic cards EQ2 supports are obsolete nvidia models. No new system user would want to use them since other PC games require much higher end cards.

I had the same problem with my BFG 9600 OC Video Card. To fix this problem, I under clocked my card, or rather put it back to what the speed of the gfx card would be if it was not OC'ed at all.I used nTune to do this. Right now its at Core Bus: 623 Mhz and Memory Bus: 846 Mhz. I have not had an issue with crashing or freezing since. Although sometimes nTune for whatever reason resets to "factory shipped clock settings" once and a while, I just under clock the card again.Hope this helps. Cheers.

I used Rivatuner and backed down my clock to 650Mhz which a non overclocked card is suppose to run.

I still haven't had a chance to test the settings out in EQ2 yet. This week the server I am on has been a little sparse at the off hours I play. 2am - 6am CST. Also the servers were down for maintanece. I'll report back if I get another video card shut down.

One thing I did notice while playing crysis. My core system temps hovers around 100F and my GPU was 114F I think. Can't remember since I am at work right now.

Also there is so much differing opinions what is wrong with the cards. Kind of wish I did get an EVGA card because their tech support is better than BFG. However BFG is local to me. Maybe one day I'll have to pay them a visit and make them troubleshoot my system. Tell you what though this is very frutstrating especially since I am a Electronic Tech by trade and trouble shoot root cause to component level. Too bad I don't have the equipment at home. O'scope, Logic Analyzer, brake out card to control voltages and monitor current and development software for the card its self.

I'll keep playing with it. I still don't ever want to go back to my 7600GS card.. ewwww

after down clocking the video card and playing eq2 for about 2+ hours it did shut down on me again.

I did a CoA run on High Performance no issues. When I went back to town I set the settings to Balanced. Someone wanted to duel in QH and I crashed before the duel. When I got my system rebooted which took about 5mins and accepted the duel I crashed again. Was only in game for less than 5 minutes. I still can't get an answer from BFG, Nvidia or EQ2. I am also tired of playing the never ending exchanging the video card. Someone has to know the issue.

Thats what is bugging me, no one knows how to fix this issue - in fact people in WoW having similiar problems with the 8800's and the new 9600 series nivdia graphic cards. Not only can we not get an answer, we are getting little to no feed-back from any developers - be it everquest2 or nvidia or the graphic card makers.

I have been reading there was some voltage stability issues with the 9600 series cards that delayed the launch. These issue would only show up under certain applications. However there is no word on what the applications that would cause this issue.

From what I can tell there is no way to know if you have a reworked board or non reworked board to fix the problem. I once again contacted BFG and going to send the card to them to Analyze. My guess now is there is some Hardware design problems with certain boards that don't function well with certain programs.

Time to go through the RMA process. Back to the 7600gs card.

Well I don't think the problem is the card itself - rather I think its the drivers, vista, eq2 or all three.

I am about to give up any way - Nvidia, Geforce and Microsoft are taking far to long to solve this - Its not just EQ2, people from WoW, Lord of the Rings Online and Final Fantasy Online are having isssues.Whats with MMORPGS and these cards? Why wont anyone at least say YES we hear you and blah blah.

I Can't speak for all the others, I loaded up LOTRO again because im done giving SOE my money until this is fixed and it runs like a freaking dream w/ DX10 all settings maxed in 1920x1080... I have no hiccups, no crashes, no anything. WoW.. well I dunno about wow since I avoid that game like the plaque hehe

windfola server, vaseroth if anyone is there who left cause of this issue, we can have a whine session together /emo (j/k)

Oh yeah I've canceled my account as well - since its only eq2 that does it and no way I can play if I crash all the time.
