I was wondering, do the Racials really make a huge difference later on in the game? The reason Im asking is because I cant decide between Fae and Arasai for a Wizard. I know the Arasai have some nice racials for Wiz, like 2% to crit and the power regen..etc, but the Fae get 1% to crit and 3% to mana pool. Im asking for purely cosmetic reasons, I dont like the way alot of the different hairstyles are for Arasai...and I already have a Conj Arasai. So id like to make a Fae but not if the Racials are really going to make a huge impact even later on in the game.Any thoughts?

Race has no impact later what so ever.

However, not big enough that people will look strangely on you for choosing an unconvential race/class combination. And the differences you list are minute (and %power pool increase are preferred over in-game regen at any rate), so I wouldn't get hung up on fae/arasai differences.

Im a L42 fae wiz and Ill say that I do like the auto-glide for jumping off cliffs and such. The aoe ability is not strong but its nice to have an extra. I use it frequently on large encounters. I have the + to scribe slotted and it probably helps make writing scrolls easier. And lately I have begun using the agro reducing ability a few times and it does work pretty well, though you do have to make sure you dont teleport into adds.

edit: almost forgot windwalker, which is an extra sprint. I use it all the time to get out of stuff and lately been using it as a kiting tool, to get some distance to reapply root.

Erudite is not an after-thought and should be considered for race selection.+5% speed cast passive => every time, everywhere. You love glide? Erudite get falling grace, so they can now drop mountain, sokokar, griffin while dancing!Marie-Ange

I'd like to second the info about Erudite as a choice.

The racials are awesome for a wizard and if you plan on being a Sage so you can make your own spells, Erudite is again a perfect choice.

I don't think the racials are game ending, but they sure do help if you like to min/max like I do.

Erudite is a great choice. They have an extra casttime reducer and a selctable breeze like ability.

Dark Elf is great as you have innate feather fall and you can run faster while invis.

Fae is nice for initial stats.

wanna go solo? go ogre.

Dark Elves also get Shadow slip (one of the abilities you can choose) and it's saved my butt more than once in a group or raid.

It moves you to a random location a short distance away and automatically drops you one spot on the agro list. Very helpful on fights like Drusella Sathir.

High elfs now have mind over mater and as such can jump of the highest cliff. Don't want to use up your evac in the back corner of lavastorm? Just jump of the mountain safely glide over the lava falls and you will end up right at the tunnel :=)). Its a lot of fun.J.C.

J.C.

Also Euridite is the choice for any new wizard who wants to get max possible dps out of the character, 5% passive spell haste , 2% spell crit +5 disruption. If you dont care about the extra small advantage that the euridites offer, then pick the race you liek the looks of the best as most of the other traits from races dotn make that big of a difference.

My wizzy is a Eruidite but I also try to get every ounce fo dps out of him as possible, but liek I said if you dont want to min max everythign just go with a race you no one will say anything about it, unless you are rolling a new toon for a top end raid guild and pick a troll or soemthing every other situation really dosent matter.

So answer to the OP Eruidite is the best choice.

Yeah erudite is one of the best casting races. All of their abilities have awsome adventuring uses. The cast time reducer and innat breeze is especially nice for Enchanters' Speed boosting or a healer's healing.

I can tell you this about choosing a race... there are ALOT of cliffs in Norrath so a race that has "safe fall" is very nice to have. Fae/Arasai, Dark Elf, High Elf, Erudite

There are alot of times when a fast get away is nice... like a temp. 50% speed boost. Fae/Arasai, Sarnak, Kerra

A racial "Blink" ability is a great thing to have also. Fae/Arasai, Kerra, Dark Elf, Froglok

Check out: http://home.comcast.net/~eq2gamedata/main.html

So IMO, Fae/Arasai have the rest beat for racial abilities with Arasai being slightly better because they get Ultravision, while Fae get Infravision.

But I can say one thing... Wood Elves have the worse racial abilities of all races. I want so bad to reroll my Warden to Fae.

If your a min maxer the erudite and dark elf are your races. But to be honest, the racial abilities only matter to a small degree at the lower lvls, yes even with the recent changes. makes it slightly easier to kill but at the higher to end game they dont add anything significant whats so ever. I am a Wood Elf wizard. Out of the races mine is shafted the most when it comes to racial abilities. I can achieve the same or greater dps then most dark elf or erudite wizards, WHY? b/c skill of the play matters about 99.9% of the time when it comes to dps.
