Am building a new rig and thought that would be the best way to ask it. I play EQ2 far more than any other game so if the new set ups stinks for EQ2 = big waste of time and money, so hearing people say "I run XYZ and it runs great at max" would give me some re-assurance.

Current set up is Asus A8N mobo, AMD 3500+, 2 gig DDR 400 memory, 8600 GT vid card, Raptor 10,000 rpm hard drive, Windows XP Pro. With this I get anywhere from 35-50 fps low congestion/solo, dropping to the teens fast in groups and that is on high performance settings. I know the video card is not the latest and greatest but would think the processor and speed of the memory are what are bottlenecking me the most.

Appreciate any answers on the question or comments.

Thank you.

I have found that CPU speed and Ram Speed make the most difference in EQ2.

Go for one of the new 45nm Intel Core 2's. They are very reasonably priced, start at 3.0ghz (can overclock to 4 on stock cooling!).

Secondly, I would get ram with the fastest timings you can find. I found that ram timings, the faster they are, the smoother the game play. Less hitching etc.

As long as you have a mid to high end video card you should be fine.

Of course, quality PSU and look for a high performing Mobo Too.
