Nvidia GPU Core Question

<p>Nvidia recently released the G92 core for their new 8800 G~ chipsets. I was wondering if anyone has/is used/using one of these versus the older G85's and the G87's? The 8800GT is one of the best cards on the market at this time. The top three being all Nvidia and I believe all in the 8800 series. Too many differing opinions here.,..Lets look at the evidence1. If you run Eq2 and some older games, the 2900pro or 3850/3870 will do a feasible job2. If you run Eq2 and NEWER games, then you will want an 8800GT...pure and simple. The 9x series still seems kind of flaky, so, by using a card that has a tested GPU core, you will have better luck...But, if you get the ATI, your newer games will not fly like they would with the 8800...So, are you looking to the future? Or still love the past (an example of an awesome game on the ATI is NWN2 ...but an awesome game for the 8800 is say...Bioshock)Also, note...your CPU will come into play here...so, Think about a faster rated CPU first if you have not...then look at the cards (i.e: SOE may fix the 8800 problem)Later

<p>Or just get a ATI HD3870X2.  Will run EQ2 at the highest level and all new game even crysis.  Nvidia is having issues with alot of games at the moment with shuttering and drivers issues.</p><p>I just upgraded my nephews PC ( alot of mowing my lawn for the summer) from a 8800 gts to a hd3870X2 and everything is running smoother and faster.</p><p>So dont believe everything you read about Nvidia.</p>

I'm questioning about the <b>NEW G92 Core</b> cards, ya know the 1 teraflop beasts of a card, the 8800 GTS you mention your nephew owned was likely a G87 core, perhaps even an older G85 core.</p>

I believe the stuttering applies to EQ, alot of other games havent had a problem with stuttering. I would suggest getting ONE 8800GT and use that. It performs well and it is fairly priced. I bought mine when they were 249 a piece, now they are cheaper. The only problem is that they run alittle hot. I would suggest buying the AKIMBO or equivalent cooler or getting the GTS 640/512MB card. EQ just doesnt like nexgen hardware.

EQ just doesnt like nexgen hardware.</blockquote><p>Hi,</p><p> I started a sharing information thread for 8800 problems, and you are correct it is an EQ2 related issue.  If you look through most of the posts and wade through whats bs and what isnt' (People saying they can play Crysis with max settings on 8800GT's /giggle) you will see that those of us that posted in the thread are having 0 problems outside of eq2.</p><p>I ran the CoD4 demo w/ maxed settings AA4 AF8 in 1920x1080p and w/ vsynch and triple buffering it is a constant 60fps with 0 fps drop.</p><p>UT3 is close to 60, but I don't think it scales as well with SLI so I do sometimes hit 55 fps.. which means I see 0 stutter when playing.</p><p>Crysis, in 1920x1080 w/ 0AA 8AF Most options set to High, others set to medium (resource hogs like shadows etc) I see no stuttering issues, I don't have Fraps installed right now and Don't know if its the same way to bring up fps counter as most other fps (cs_drawFPS 1) so I can't give an exact number, but even if its 30fps its a constant 30fps smooth as glass.</p><p> eq2 in balanced mode with shadows turned off, flora off, cloth simulation off runs at a whopping 15-20fps with a drop to 1-2 fps every other frame.  I have disabled sli in the gaming profile for eq2, turned off sli in the control panel but im not pulling the card out just to play eq2.  </p><p>So as others have tried to point out, sure it "COULD" be MY rig thats the problem, but its not just my rig.  Its something else since I can take a 7800gtx and replace the 8800GT's (G92 core) right now and the game runs fine... even with sli enabled.  Only problem is the memory on those cards is going out so I have white dots and texture problems.. unfortunately as much as I love EQ2, my hardware is not getting downgraded just to play it... I have canceled EQ2 Subsx2, and 3swg subs (jedi, bh, entertainer) because regardless if SWG runs fine I would rather give my money to a company who keeps up on these sorts of issues.</p><p>I figure if I can't speak with my mouth to get them to listen /shrug maybe the 75 a month in subscriptions I was paying will be something (I think we all know the answer, but oh well what are you going to do)</p>
