<p>A post from 2006 says "Lvl 10 charm M1 beats out Lvl 61 charm AD3..."</p><p>Is this still true?  (Assuming it ever was.)</p>

I don't know about level 10, but at 80  I'm currently using a master that is 2 tiers old over the adept3 replacements.  The pets do a lot more damage at master than adept3.  Duration is lower and they don't regen as much, but those are minor issues.   Resist/break chances is harder to quantify.

There is a clear diference in resist rates and breaks - but... the efficiency of the pet is highly increased with master (testing it with t7 master vs t8 adept3) at least at one tier back. But .... the same is on every single spell.Except for the T6 spells which were resisted like mad on mobs that are higher than their proposed level, I have not upgraded any T7 master to T8 adept3 - and personally I wont buy any ad3/m1 unless its a real bargain.

I am still using beguile at level 77. Charm sometimes  breaks but thats way its always been. The only reason to upgrade it from Coerce was extra 5  min duration. I will settle for no less then Dictate Master 1 -)

Still using beguile master 1 at 80! The only issue I have is that out of combat regeneration is low really... The maximum duration isn't really a big deal considering that charm usually breaks beforehand anyway - although I still frequently get the full duration of it. Not a big deal, break/mez/recharm.

Are there any tricks to responding to the break quickly? I'm a fast click'er, but sometimes it catches me off-guard and I take a couple hits before the mez fires off.

If mine breaks, I just have to click the mob or hit tab ASAP. I have mezz, root, and stun mapped to my extra mouse buttons, so I only need to flex a finger to use them. I'd say 80% of the time I successfully throw a mezz on the mob before it can hit me.In regards to the original topic...I also use Beguile at level 60. The spell description does not say it resists any differently on high level mobs, but maybe there's some game mechanic I don't know about. Most of the time my charm runs full duration. I paid 2 plat for that Beguile book and I consider myself lucky. Any rank higher than that goes for 40+ plat on Unrest for the next rank and..well, you don't want to know what the better master 1 charm goes for. More than it's worth. I'd be afraid to be forced into upgrading because it'd be a financial disaster. In some ways I consider it a blessing that our old charms work forever.Coercers are just funny like that. Anyone else know another skill in the game that functions almost as good regardless of what level master you use? Seems kinda funny, but like I said, it's partially a blessing, and we can certainly use a few of those.

<p>The resistability increases against targets above xx level component to charm only applies to the 3.0s mez that occurs when charm breaks.  So the only increased risk for using a lower level spell is a shorter reaction time when pet breaks to be able to deal with it.</p><p>I generally stun or root the mob first if i think there's a decent risk of my group waking mez before i can recharm.  If I'm soloing, the mob i'm fighting is always rooted, so if charm breaks i only have to deal with the charmed mob.  I also wear 3 dispersion items and if i do somehow get a cloud of mobs (say charm breaks when i sent pet to pull and 3 mobs are running back) i pbae stun, root, mez, jump back and mez the last mob.</p>
